About the Owner

I moved here with my husband and 2 children then aged 11 & 13 in 2004.

We have been renovating the gites and our own home ever since and we all helped in building the swimming pool.

We love the countryside and growing most of our own vegetables and we have our very own bees with 3 different types of lovely honey each year.

ideal holiday home for a base to explore or chill

  • 5 of 5

we could only stay for the one week but would have loved to stay for longer. we had good weather and it is lovely to eat outside under the grape vines and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. we had pontevine cottage and the master bed room has a Velux style window and with the blind drawn back you can watch the stars pass by. The pool is ideal and our older children enjoyed the swimming.

We were made welcome by the owners and there is honey on sale from them and it's delicious and great value. Fresh croissants and pain au chocolate are baked on site and are a real treat. there's a lot to see near by, Melle is worth a trip, and the river trips on the Marais was fun.

Relaxing break

  • 4 of 5

Beautifully converted accommodation, with lovely pool. Nice touches from Tania and Mike with fresh bread and honey. Lots to do in the local area to keep our teenagers occupied. The markets at Melle and Lezay offer good local produce, Niort is closeby and has great shops and restaurants. Watersports and activities are available at LacLambon and Ruffec, and don't miss the chance to navigate the Marais Poitevin at nearby Coulon. A thoroughly relaxing break.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely gite during August. We had brilliant weather, this area really does have it's own micro-climate. The gite was better than described, it was spotless and well equiped. Even providing honey from the owner's bees; more can be obtained from the owners making excellent gifts for those back home. Our hosts Mike, Tania and their children Tabitha and Keenan were friendly and helpful with any of our requests. They know the area well, suggesting days out etc. There are lovely local walks, and you can borrow bikes.

We were a couple on our own, but rental would be ideal for everyone young or old, with or without children. We will definately be back and recommend Mike and Tania to our friends and family.

August 2012

We had a lovely week's stay in the three bed-roomed Saanen gite. The gite was very clean and very well equipped for our stay. We all loved the swimming pool (very necessary as the temperature averaged about 36 c in our week!) and our boys loved the table tennis. Our teenaged daughter appreciated the wi-fi! Fo the adults, it was a lovely relaxing place to stay with all mod-cons provided.

There was lots to do both n the immediate area and further field and our hosts very knowledgeable and helpful - especially when we had motoring problems!

We had a wonderful holiday in a delightful area of France.

Home from home!

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic place for all the family. Beautifully restored buildings, lovely safe environment for the children to play in and a superb pool for all to enjoy. We have been going for the last seven years and have loved every visit to La Chevrerie. Mike and Tania are the perfect hosts and are so accommadating. The local cafes and restaurants at Chef Boutonne and Melle are great for a coffee or lunch. But most of all we love to enjoy the local surroundings by walking down the lanes, cycling and swimming in the pool! Something for all the family!

A great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Poitevine Gite for a week with our two young children and had a great time. The building has been beautifully restored by the owners and was it was spotless inside. The whole area is fenced and makes for a really safe place for the kids to play. The swiming pool is also like new, and is fenced around so children can't get to it unless it has been opened. The owners Mike and Tania were very helpful with anything we needed.

Special interest holidays:

The property is situated in a small hamlet between Sauzé-Vaussais and the historic town of Melle, an hour from La Rochelle, Poitiers and Angouleme.

Chaignepain is ideal for cycling and walking along meandering lanes past small vineyards, fields of sunflowers and maize, taking in panoramic views of the region. The way of life in this area is so rural and unhurried that it gives the impression of going back through time. The total absence of any light pollution, means that at night you can look up to an astonishingly crisp and clear sky and enjoy a glorious display of stars. Chaignepain is very well placed for visits to Cognac, La Rochelle, Ile de Re, Chauvigny, Venise-verte, Futuroscope at Poitiers and the local historic town of Melle. We benefit from living in the region that is recognised as the 2nd sunniest in France.
