Set in the grounds of "Villa Sonsbeek", "Annexe at Sonsbeek" is a self-contained unit with private access, garden and car parking space (within the gravel driveway of the main house). It is located in the beautiful undercliff village of St Lawrence near Ventnor, Isle of Wight. Ideally placed for couples or families seeking a quiet retreat with easy access to beautiful coastal walks, secluded coves and the Victorian town of Ventnor just 5 minutes drive away. If you are keen on cycling, walking or running, many options exist so you can discover the beauty of the South of the island from this location. Close to attractions such as Ventnor Botanical Gardens (3 minute drive), Blackgang Chine (10 mins drive) and many other attractions that the Isle of Wight offers.

Set in the grounds of "Villa Sonsbeek" there are two holiday accommodation units "Little Sonsbeek" and "Annexe at Sonsbeek". We welcome well behaved dogs in both units.

"Little Sonsbeek" is a spacious and modern 3 bedroom bungalow detached from the owners private accommodation "Villa Sonsbeek". It benefits from a large front garden and rear south facing private decked area with table and chairs. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms and south facing conservatory. Access is via a private entrance. Parking for one car is provided in a private hard-standing off Hunts Road. Ideal for a family with ample space and comfort for up to 6 people

"Little Sonsbeek" comfortably sleeps up to 6 people with one double, one twin and a single bedroom. Additional sleeping is provided in the lounge (1 double and 2 single sofa beds). So the accommodation offers flexible sleeping arrangements with a one time set up of linens included. A cot is available in the double bedroom if required, please request at time of booking.

"Little Sonsbeek" has a spacious lounge/dining room with TV, FreeSat and DVD player and we provide a good range of DVDs to keep the children occupied if you find yourselves housebound due to the good old British weather! Free WiFi is also available in most of the bungalow. The dining area can seat up to 6 people and we can provide a high chair upon request.

The two bathrooms in "Little Sonsbeek" have instant electric "Triton" showers whilst one also offers a bath to relax and unwind. A one time set up of towels is included in the rental rate.

The kitchen is equipped with all you need for self-catering including oven, hob, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, ironing board and iron as well as a good range of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. Outside there is a rotary washing line so you can even wash, dry and iron your clothes before you leave!

"Annexe at Sonsbeek" is an apartment smaller than the bungalow located in the double garage conversion of "Villa Sonsbeek". It is detached from "Little Sonsbeek" and link-detached from "Villa Sonsbeek". The attractive and modern interior is finished to a good standard and is ideal for a couple or single person. It can sleep 3 max in the double bedroom and via sofa bed in the living area.

The living area offers ample storage space with a large wardrobe, storage units and drawers. FreeSat TV and free WiFi is also included. It also has a small dining table and chairs.

The kitchen area is fully equipped for self catering with oven, hob, microwave, refrigerator, kettle, toaster and washing machine. A good selection of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery is provided and caters for up to 3 people. Clothes can be dried on a clothes line provided in the outside access passageway. There is a shower room/toilet fitted with a "Triton" instant electric shower.

"Annexe at Sonsbeek" benefits from exclusive use of a large elevated section of garden with table and chairs and a car parking space on main driveway.

"Annexe at Sonsbeek" is accessed via a private entrance off the main driveway and has a secure lockable gate.

If you are planning a holiday with parents or friends requiring their own space the linked access gate between the two units can be opened to allow an extended family of up to 10 to holiday together but have their own living and sleeping space. Special rates apply when booking both units so please request a quote.

This area is in our opinion one of the most beautiful and peaceful in the UK whilst enjoying a warmer climate. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, the undercliff region benefits from a 'micro-climate' which is why the Ventnor Botanic Garden is located here. With coastal and downs walks and secluded bays only minutes walk away it is ideally located for those that enjoy the great outdoors in a quiet peaceful location away from it all. Nowhere is far away by car on the Isle of Wight so you can go and explore whilst knowing you have a comfortable and relaxing retreat to return to.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is modern and maintained to a good standard. With the owners living on the site, any problems or issues can be dealt with quickly with the aim of making your stay as enjoyable as possible. We always welcome your feedback so we can continue to improve for our future visitors and hopefully for your return stay. Outside: The outside space offers gardens to both sides of the property. The south side of "Little Sonsbeek" has a private courtyard area with sundeck adjoining the conservatory with table, chairs and parasol. A rotary washing line is installed. The front of the property has a pretty garden with sea views from the top, table and chairs and an abundance of shrubs and seasonal plants/flowers. "Little Sonsbeek Annexe" benefits from use of a section of private garden to the front and use of a car parking space in the driveway of the main house.

Lovely little visit

The annexe is a perfect little place to stay when getting out and about on the island. This is my second stay and both times have had fantastic nights sleep here.

Great but pity about transport links

I stayed in the Annexe on my own. It is very safe and would recommend this to solo woman travellers. Not only the area, but the accommodation is safe and private as you can lock yourself in behind a wooden gate and a door. It was very tidy and had everything I needed. Nick Warry was very friendly and professional, and I appreciated the silence and privacy! However, I only discovered when I arrived that none of the bus stops in St Lawrence function, yet the Vectis website still has these stops marked on the Google Map of route 6. Be warned, thus, if you are on foot and reliant on public transport you may wish to reconsider. It took me a good half and hour to walk to Ventnor Boots stop and back. Best suited to those with a car, as lovely as it is.

Owner's Response: St Lawrence has not had a public bus service since the road slipped to the west of the village in Jan 2014. This is clear on the Southern Vectis website and timetable, The closest stop on Route 6 is a bus stop between Whitwell Church and Ventnor Pine Point. Ask for the stop at the "top of the St Lawrence Shute". This stop is about a 15 minute walk so quicker than walking to Ventnor Boots. We are always happy to advise on local information like this if asked and can also drop off and pick up from Ventnor if required. The positive thing about the lacking bus service to and from St Lawrence is the peace and tranquillity enjoyed by all as there is no noise from through traffic.

Lovely little place

My daughter and I stayed at this property for a long weekend and this lovely little place was just what we needed to get our shut eye in between being out and about - particularly in the Ventnor area. Nick and family were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay and even prior to our arrival

Annexe Chalet

Most enjoyable 6 night stay, location ideal for access to coast road between Ventnor and Needles. This small chalet is ideal for a couple, local Post Office shop for everyday provisions and well stocked grocer shop in Niton. The greeting was warm and flowers and a very good red was much appreciated

Arrived late in the evening to a warm welcome. Storm blowing outside, but we couldn't hear a thing in the annexe. Everything we needed was supplied. Accommodation was clean, warm and homely.

I am a keen walker, runner and cyclist and always happy to advise you or show you around the local area.

Coast/Beach:

Located on the south coast of the Isle of Wight with the secluded bays just 5 to 10 minutes walk away. Although these beaches are generally stones/pebbles they are dog friendly and suitable for swimming and relaxing in the very favourable climate of this area.

Travel:

St Lawrence is on the south coast of the Isle of Wight so is an approximate 30 minute drive from the ferry ports of Fishbourne, Cowes and Yarmouth. As a foot passenger from Ryde (via FastCat or Hovercraft from Portsmouth) you can take the train to Shanklin which is just a 15 minute drive away so is a cost-effective taxi journey to "Sonsbeek".

Distances:

The nearest town is Ventnor which is 5 minute drive by car, 15 minutes by bike or 30 minutes by foot. The road to Ventnor has very little traffic and passes the Botanical Gardens and Ventnor Park, both of which are well worth a visit. Ventnor Park has a bandstand with performers on Sunday afternoons during the summer season. The village of Niton is a similar distance in the opposite direction and can be accessed via a 2 mile walk over the downs or by by walking or cycling along undercliff drive. If you are driving you can reach anywhere on the Island in no more then 30 mins.

Further Details:

St Lawrence has a convenience store/Post Office within a few minutes walk. The town of Ventnor with many shops, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and popular seafront with sandy beach and views over the English Channel is just a 5 minute drive away.
