Charming "Colombage" Cottage

Updated: 27-Sep-2016
Cottage in Champosoult, Normandy, France

Les Sablons is a charming detached "colombage" type cottage located in the heart of rural Normandy and is surrounded by rolling green fields, valleys and orchards of the Pays D'Auge. There are contented cows providing milk for the Camembert cheese made a few miles away in the village of the same name. The cottage is set in a lawned garden and the location is so peaceful and tranquil that it provides an excellent haven for restful holidays whilst at the same time offering many fascinating places to visit. In the garden to the rear there is a large decked area for eating, sitting in the sunshine and looking at the views down the valley. There are deer in the fields around the cottage and wild boar have been seen In the garden there is also a shed containing garden furniture, a barbeque and outdoor games. The cottage has well equipped kitchen/diner and there is a log burner in the living area for those possible chilly evenings in Autumn. The cottage can be used as a base for exploring Normandy. The coast is just over an hour's drive away. If you are interested in the Battle of Normandy in 1944 you can visit the invasion beaches, Pegasus Bridge, the Caen Memorial, Arromanches and other interesting related sites. The cottage is situated near to the point in August 1944 where the Allies closed the Falaise Gap and thereby won the battle for France. There is a fascinating museum at Montormel that provides the details of the battle with panoramic views of the area. You can also go to the seaside towns of Honfleur (which is worth a visit by itself and should not be missed), Deauville and Trouville for superb restaurants. Further along the coast are the towns of Cabourg and Houlgate with large sandy beaches and worth a day's stay. There are many pretty villages that can be visited such as Beuvron en Auge, Cambremer and St Pierre-sur-Dives; details of these and others are in the cottage. Nearer to home is Falaise for the William the Conqueror's Castle with a mixture of original stonework and modern materials. There is Pont d'Ouilly for lovely walks and it has canoeing and kayaking facilities. If you are interested in horses then you must visit Haras du Pin which is the French national stud. The buildings are architecturally impressive and there is a really good restaurant down the hill - La Tete au Loup. Wherever you have been during the day it is always lovely to return to Les Sablons, sit on the decking with a glass of wine, watch the sun go down and discuss the day's events. In the near locality there are many walks along the lanes and over the fields; well behaved dogs are welcomed. The house has all the modern necessities that are required save for WiFi which preserves the peace and tranquillity of the cottage. We have tried to equip the cottage well to ensure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"What an amazing place. So peaceful with so much character. Enjoyed wonderful food, evening barbeques, sweet French villages and towns and the wonderful tranquillity of Les Sablons." Andrew and Pat.

"The peace, the quiet the tranquillity - it has all been said by those before us. We can wholeheartedly agree that the setting is perfect for those of us in the rat race to "chill out". This cottage is better equipped than any we have been to in the last 10-12 years- hence an unnecessarily over-laden car." Richard Lewis

"To be in the heart of the countryside with inly the odd cow mooing with the peace and quiet and only ruined at rush hour when a car came down the road around 4pm. Spacious, clean accommodation equipped with everything you could need for your stay. A leisurely dinner taken outside on the decking whilst the sun was setting casting a multitude of colours across the darkening sky silhouetting the abundant apple orchards, then to snuggle up in front of the log fire a while later with the rich smell of apple smoke sending you off to sleep. Perfect 10/10."

"Lovely cottage, lovely setting - simply beautiful. We visited the Cambremer market with medieval dress in July. The market at Dives-sur-Mer was lovely...Honfleur was simply wonderful." Nicola and Lorne

Charming Fairytale cottage

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing property! Four days was not long enough to enjoy this home and the surrounding area. The cottage is very well appointed with everything you could possibly need or want. Fantastic modern kitchen, while the overall style of the cottage is still very authentic. Communication with the owners was always quick and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your holiday home with others. It's obvious that much love has gone into the home and the atmosphere reflects it. My family had a wonderful time and we hope to be able to return in the not too distant future.

From the Owner

We love the area for it's peace and tranquillity. Les Sablons is set in it's own lawned gardens with views down the valley. The cottage is in a rural location some distance from the local towns. However the Normandy coast can be reached in about an hour.
