2 Bed Bungalow at Colwell Bay, Freshwater, Isle of Wight. - A Peaceful Location Near To Family Friendly Sandy Beaches, With Views Of The Needles.

68 Cliff End is a two bedroomed holiday bungalow that will accept four guests. It is designed with an open plan aspect and has its own south-facing patio. From there are extensive views towards fields and farmland with glorious views towards Tennyson Down, The Needles, Colwell Bay, while the rear of the bungalow looks towards Hurst Spit and Castle. The bungalow is fully double glazed with heating in each room, and is comfortably furnished for all your holiday needs. It sits in an extensive, safe, grassed area with football nets, tennis nets and climbing structures for children. Parking is adjacent to the bungalow. The family friendly beach at Colwell Bay is mainly sand with some fine gravel and slopes gently into the sea. The photos give an idea of just how clear the water is and the beach retained the Blue Flag status it gained in 2013. The long walk to the beach from the bungalow will take a little under 20 minutes while the adventurous shorter route can take about 10 minutes. Ice cream, coffee and cooked meals are available from a pleasant restaurant very close to the main slipway if you want to eat out.

Situated next to the Island's coastal footpath the bungalow is ideal for those who like walking or cycling. There is easy access to a superb network of public footpaths. The ferry port of Yarmouth is approx 2 miles away to the east, where you will find places to eat; while the town of Freshwater is a short drive away to the west. The main town of Newport is about 12 miles away. Horse riding, golf, swimming and cycling are all available nearby. Nearby places of interest are Yarmouth with its historic castle, the Needles Victorian Battery with its secret history of modern rocket development managed by the National Trust, Dimbola Lodge, the home of Julia Margaret Cameron an early pioneer of photography and Alum Bay that's noted for its coloured sands. Slightly further afield are Osborne House the summer residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Carisbrooke Castle where Charles I was imprisoned, the Dinosaur Museum in Sandown displaying fossils found on the Island and Ventnor Botanic Garden, plus a host of other fascinating venues for young and old, while Cowes is a mecca for sailors from around the world.

Like a home from home.

The chalet was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Equipped for all our holiday needs.

Brain and Genny were there to greet us on arrival. The complimentary tea and coffee was a welcome gesture after a long journey.

The chalet is ideally situated for the beach and various attractions such as Fort Victoria and the Needles. Going a little further a field I would recommend Appuldurcombe Falconry & Farm Park for a enjoyable day out for both adults and children . Although, the café closing at 14.00 took us by surprise !.

I 'd have no hesitation in recommending Freshfields and look forward returning next year ourselves.

fabulous week on the Island

  • 5 of 5

Cliff End is exactly what it says on the tin and having stayed on the Isle of Wight on a number of occasions, this is about as coastal as it gets which was ideal to wander off in either direction, towards Yarmouth Harbour or back towards Freshwater Bay. The holiday bungalow was immaculately clean and we could not have been made more welcome by Brian and Genny, who even brought us a starter pack - particularly good as we arrived after local shops had closed and which saw us through the first overnight.

The week seemed to fly by and it was like we'd known the place all our lives. If the Island is good enough for Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) then it's good enough for me !

Can't wait to go again. Huge thanks to Brian and Genny ... see you next year.
