About brian Barrow

Hi! Were Brian and Celia. We live in the UK in the City of Brighton opposite the sea with our Jack Russell, Mitzi.

Although we love the city life, we also adore rural France and realised we also wanted an alternative lifestyle. What we needed was a holiday home that was totally different to our everyday life.

We decided on Normandy, initially for it’s closeness to the UK and the ease of getting back and forth. We then discovered the beauty and diversity of the area with it’s lovely beaches, beautiful countryside and fabulous towns together with the wonderful food and culture.

When deciding where to buy in Normandy we knew we wanted to be detached and in the countryside, but also we needed to be close to a village, towns and the seaside. This we consider we have achieved.

Why brian Barrow chose Bacqueville-en-Caux

Although we love the semi- remoteness and quietness of the cottage we also very much enjoy going out and enjoying the abundance of restaurants and shops

There is nothing better than having a hectic day out at the seaside or shopping and then driving back and locking the gate behind you to then have a relaxing afternoon or evening cooking a lovely meal in the real farmhouse kitchen. Others may prefer to relax watching the UK TV/Radio or read a book in another quiet and comfortable part of the house

We have also hosted some really enjoyable evening meals in the lovely shabby chic dining area

What makes this cottage unique

One of the main advantages of the cottage is its close proximity to the village (10 minutes walk away) and being able to pick up freshly baked baguette and croissants every morning

We love watching the cows with their calves in the adjacent field , and almost opposite the house is a self-catch trout lake which is very popular. For a small fee for either half/full day you get to keep your catch! So make sure you bring your fishing rods!

We hope you take advantage of the position of the property and visit some of the lovely towns nearby ie Dieppe, Rouen and Paris, not to mention the glamour of Deauville or the quaintness of Honfleur, all can be visited on a day trip

Guestbook comments from the manager

Rose Cottage, Lamberville.

We were met upon arrival by Brian and Celia who immediately made us feel welcome and gave us a tour of their beautiful cottage which was situated in a large private garden area surrounded by trees and countryside and where we found ourselves becoming avid bird watchers as the week progressed.

The cottage is immaculate yet extremely homely and contains wonderful objets d’art. Every day we found something new to look at and admire. Brian and Celia have exquisite taste and have successfully mixed the old and the new together in perfect harmony.

The main bedroom has its own terrace area and it is a lovely treat to sit out and enjoy a coffee in the morning listening to the birds singing. There are a further 2 bedrooms which are comfortable and spotless.

The kitchen is stocked full of crockery, cutlery and glassware and there is a BBQ outside on the main patio together with a table and chairs to seat 6 people which overlooks the beautiful garden area.

The nearby village of Bacqueville en Caux is charming, the locals are extremely friendly and displayed endless patience with my schoolgirl French! The pretty port of Dieppe is approximately 30 minutes away and there are small hamlets and towns dotted all around the area. We had planned to sight see a lot more than we actually got around to on this visit. We were so comfortable and relaxed at the cottage it was hard to leave! Maybe next time we will venture out further.

We would highly recommend a stay here and would love to return. For now, back at work in the noisy city, Rose Cottage remains a beautiful memory.

Soulless locality

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive comment regarding our home in Lamberville and we're so sorry that perhaps the location wasn't as you had hoped. It is a very peaceful and quiet area, with beautiful surrounding countryside, and is very accessible to numerous towns ie Dieppe and Rouen and with Paris only 2 hours away as well as some beautiful coastal towns and villages within 15 minutes. We appreciate that this isn't what everyone is looking for and everyone enjoys different types of holiday.

This is a perfect holiday cottage in a lovely accessible area.

We have been to the Seine-Maritime area before and fell in love with the lovely little seaside towns.

The cottage has everything a family could need. The WIFI and satellite TVs went down a treat with our 3 children. Especially the 16 year old who can not live without WIFI. Our 11 year old twin boys loved the large garden to play football and badminton in. They also made good friends with the next door neighbours 11 year old twin boys and horse!

David the house caretaker was wonderful. He gave lots of local information and even printed off a map for us.

We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our holiday here and we were very sad to leave.

We will definitely return and would recommend this cottage to everyone.

As I said before. It is perfect.

Absolutely stunning

  • 5 of 5

This delightful cottage was perfect from the start.

We travelled over through EuroTunnel and the journey was straightforward and the cottage very easy to find. At first sight it took our breath away and we were met by the house manager David who explained where everything was and was very helpful and thoroughly nice. Inside didn't disappoint - spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly want for the duration of the holiday. The cottage has been tastefully decorated and there are loads of original features. We had a couple of chilly nights so we lit the log burner and it was very cosy. I think it would be lovely in the winter too. My mum is 88 and found the stairs no problem (although there is a downstairs bedroom with bathroom).

We took our dog and the garden was also perfect and completely fenced in. Roxy now has a best friend in the horse next door!

The area is beautiful, the beaches are close and the village shops have everything you need. There is a Carrefour Contact and Leader Price nearby and also a fab pattisserie. We particularly liked the village of Auffay which is about 10-15 minutes drive away (there is also a Carrefour there).

We have had a fantastic holiday and would recommend this cottage to everyone and dare them not to love it!!!

French delight

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this delightful beautifully renovated old cottage in late October and found it to be everything we hoped it would be. The ambience , furnishing and style of decoration as well as the large garden makes for a truly relaxing holiday. Being close to Bacqueville en Caux is a great asset as it provides easy access to a super pattisserie and two supermarkets. We found it a great base from which to tour the lovely Normandy region from Dieppe to Rouen to Deauville etc. We will return

Home from home holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Having 2 children aged 5 and 10 we were looking for a homely base to explore Normandy. When we arrived (we couldn't believe how close it was to Dieppe ferry port) after a short easy journey we pulled into the large driveway to discover the most beautiful cottage. On entering, my children hastily wandered around discovering rooms and instantly jumped on the beds they wanted (near the TV where they could watch all their favourite programmes!). I made a beeline for the kitchen and the kettle! I loved the fact that it was completely kitted out with absolutely everything we could want. We decided to go and explore the area and wanted to find a beach. According to the satnav there was one not far away. We found it after 15 mins, parked up and took the short walk down to the sea. It was stunning! Miles of sand and large rocks for the boys to explore and climb on.

During the holiday the beach was the firm favourite, however, I adored the local town with the most beautiful boutique shops in where I picked up some lovely earrings for 5euros! Across the road was a charming little bar where my husband and the kids had some light refreshments as I browsed the beautiful local linens and stocked the food supplies up from the local pattisserie and boulangerie! Although our main shop was done at an intermache half an hour away.

The cottage was ideal for us and very spacious. The beds were incredibly comfortable and everyone sleep really well. In fact it was difficult to get up! One evening we decided to light one of the two wood burning stoves. Everything was there that we needed down to the paper and firelighters. We couldn't believe the heat that came from it. We are actually considering booking the cottage in the winter for maybe a little break as it was so cosy and well equipped. Christmas 2015 with friends and maybe our dog Buster?

I would thoroughly recommend this charming spacious cottage in the most idyllic part of Normandy. Although you would need a car or bikes to get about unless you were a walker. Finally, we found it very easy to book and find. Directions were easy to follow and everything about the cottage was as it said on the tin!! And some. Happy booking!
