Mulberry Cottage is ideally situated for couples or individuals who want to visit Lancaster and the beautiful surrounding areas. The cottage has a main living area with separate kitchen and bathroom. It has its own sitting area in our walled garden and private parking. The cottage will suit those visiting friends or family in Lancaster, working at one of the Universities in Lancaster or The Royal Infirmary or exploring the area. Lancaster is situated in one of the most interesting, varied and beautiful parts of England, where there is a genuine quality of choice rarely to be found so close together. Whether walking in the Lakes or Yorkshire Dales, enjoying the fun of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, RSPB’s Leighton Moss reedbeds and rich bird life, a Morecambe Bay sunset or Cross Bay Walk, the beauty of the Trough of Bowland, Ingleton and its spectacular waterfall walk, inland waterways and the steam driven splendour of Settle to Carlisle, or cycling alongside the River Lune or Lancaster Canal…..its all here for you. If you want to stay local, just stroll out of Mulberry Cottage to enjoy the Lancaster on your doorstep. There are plenty of historic sites to visit including; the Castle, The Judges’ Lodging, Maritime Museum, and the beautiful Priory. You will also find historic pubs, a wide variety of restaurants, multiplex cinema and two great theatres. To complete the picture, there is the beautifully preserved St George’s Quay, the tidal River Lune, and Williamson’s Park where you will see the prominent Ashton Memorial which dominates the City from its hill top position. The cottage is conveniently situated only 2 minutes from the railway station and the bus station and easily accessible from the M6.

About the Owner

I run Mulberry Cottage which is attached to the family home where we have lived since 2001. We opened the cottage in 2002 and named it after the 400 year old Mulberry Tree which is situated in our walled garden and is centre to the view from the cottage. We have welcomed holiday makers, academics, doctors on placement at Lancaster Royal Infirmary, and families and friends from overseas.

I try and make each visit special for our guests and provide a welcome tray on their arrival with tea, coffee, milk and home made cakes and homemade jam.

I am happy to walk down and meet guests from the railway station.

Mulberry Cottage benefits from being attached to our Georgian Town House and enjoying our walled garden yet being totally independent and in the city centre. We love living here as it is the best of all worlds - city centre living yet secluded and quiet with the sound of bird song in the garden. We can catch a train within 5 minutes of leaving the house or be walking near the Priory or along the canal or river. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the fantastic position of our house and the cottage.

The sunset at Morecambe Bay is spectacular and can be enjoyed whilst sipping a drink at the Midland Hotel. Morecambe Bay can be reached by car or train in 10 minutes or by bike along the cycle path in under half an hour. We are happy to lend you bikes for this. The rugged coast at Silverdale and Arnside aswell as the sandy beaches of Blackpool and Southport are also easily reached by car or train.


Manchester Airport is an hour away and there are direct trains from the airport to Lancaster. Cars can be hired at the airport and there is good motorway connection from the airport to Lancaster. Blackpool and Liverpool Airports are also in easy travelling distance. There is a good train service from London approx 2.5 hours for those flying in to London airports.


Mulberry Cottage is situated in the centre of Lancaster. Railway and bus stations and the city centre are only 2 minutes walk from the cottage. The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Manchester and Blackpool are all under an hour away by train or car. Morecambe Bay and The Trough of Bowland are on the doorstep, only 10 minutes away by car. Edinburgh and Glasgow and Wales can be reached by train or car in about 2 hours.

Further Details:

Lancaster has a good selection of high street shops and independent retailers and there are supermarkets in walking distance from the cottage as well as the local market on Wednesday and Saturday. Lancaster also an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants within walking distance from the cottage. There are Sports Centres with swimming pools at Salt Ayre and Lancaster University, both can be reached by car in 10 minutes.

Booking Notes:
Booking is usually completed via email or phone. A non refundable 10% deposit is due when confirming the booking and then the balance is due 6 weeks before arriving. Bookings can be paid for by cash, cheque or bank transfer.

Changeover Day:
Mulberry Cottage changeover day is usually Saturday but this can be flexible. Guests usually arrive after 1600 and leave by 1000, but again this can be flexible if it fits in with other guests arrival and departure.

Notes on prices:
Discount is available for bookings of 2 weeks or more. Nightly rate is £70 per night with a minimum booking of 3 nights. Bookings of under a week are usually only considered close to the date

When we were house hunting in 2001, the estate agent showed us the details of 8 Castle Park and we said "it can't have a garden situated by the castle" and it has. We also said "it can't have private parking being situated by the castle" and it has. We then discovered it had a self contained annexe which means we can also share all the great benefits of our home and the situation with our guests.   • Outside: Mulberry Cottage has its own sitting area with table and chairs within our walled garden and guests are welcome to enjoy our garden and sample the mulberries during August and September. Eggs may also be available if our hens that roam freely in the garden are laying. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included in the price and a change of linen and towels are provided for guests staying more than a week. Other: Internet access is included in the the rental. A cot is available if required. All rooms are on one level with no steps within the cottage.
