About Sarah Sidders

We are Joe and Sarah Sidders, owners of Rambler Cottage, parents to three small children who are all now of school age. Joe is deputy head of a senior school on the outskirts of Bath and Sarah is an artist and textile designer. Sarah grew up in Devon and Joe has followed suit with a love for the west-country and Scilly.

Year round we aspire to spend many happy sun filled days on the North Devon beaches teaching our children to surf and return home with finds from the tide line to use the space in Rambler Cottage to be creative! We love

Winter warming by the wood burner with mulled wine, and cooking seasonal roast dinners with local meat in a home perfect for socialising which coincidently has enough chimney breasts to hang a stocking for everyone in the extended family.

Sarah Sidders purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Sarah Sidders chose North Devon

Sarah grew up on just the other side of Dartmoor and Joe has followed with a love for the south-west. Wanting to own a property that we can escape to from the busyness of day-to-day work and the school run we looked to what we feel is the hidden secret of central north Devon. With amazing beaches, moorland and a diversity of interests all within easy reach we always eagerly anticipate our next visit.

What makes this cottage unique

Rambler Cottage is packed full of historical features and offers a cosy yet spacious feel that is perfect for us as a family to relax and be creative in. Family walks are a favourite past time, and many can be found direct from the door and a little further a field in a variety of landscapes: open moorland, coastal cliff tops, ancient woodland, deep river valleys and slightly tamer on the Tarka Trail.

A lovely cottage for a family Xmas

  • 5 of 5

As others have said, Rambler Cottage is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen has plenty of crockery, pans and utensils and we cooked a lovely Xmas dinner for eight. Beds were comfy and warm. High Bickington is a friendly village and we can vouch for the welcome in the Old George Inn.

Excellent

  • 4 of 5

We have just enjoyed a lovely stay at Ramblers Cottage ( 4 couples) which is spacious yet cosy. Situated in the centre of the most delightful & friendly village, Ramblers Cottage was perfect for our weekend away. On arrival we were met by Pamela the housekeeper who showed us around and had just made a batch of scones which provided us with a welcome cream tea!

I would highly recommend this property.

Delightful

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house in a quiet spot, plenty of space for 3 generations of the same family (including 5 children) to watch TV/ read/ enjoy some peace and quiet. Very well equipped kitchen and plenty of room to sit all 10 of us around the table (not shown on the website). The cream tea on arrival was delish. Loads to do within an hour's drive, we did: Lundy Island (gorgeous); Castle Drogo; Lynford Gorge; Baggy Point and Woolacombe and a day cycling on the Tarka Trail. All brilliant and we could easily have filled another week or two.

Excellent, spaceous large cottage full of charrm.

  • 5 of 5

Arrived early with the consent of the owners. The village church bells were ringing when we arrived, the bell ringers were having their annual bell ringing competition. Its was a very pleasant experience.

Rambler Cottage is charming with plenty of space for a large family.

We found on arrival a huge bag of continental chocoates together with a beautiful plate of fresh home made scones, jam and clotted cream - yum yum. Thank you.

The cottage is excellent value having all essential requirements. The villagers

were very friendly.

Rambler Cottage is truly welcoming.

One small point please treat the cottage to a new vacuum cleaner.

Great cottage, really well equipped. Good base to explore North Devon.

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage easily accommodates large families. Lots of space so you don't feel on top of each other. It is very well equipped, even has toys for young children. Village is lovely, 2 pubs and a post office. Chip van on Tuesday and Thai on Fridays.
