Cottage in Portling, Exclusive Secluded Location, 5 Mins Walk To The Beach, Private Access To The Coastal Path

Victory Cottage offers luxury accommodation, with very close attention to detail throughout. Set in one acre of tropical type gardens, with direct private access to the coastal path.

There are two Bedrooms, the master with a Superking size bed and the second bedroom with two single beds.

Both bedrooms include the supply of 800 count Egyptian Cotton Sheets, choice of winter / summer duvets and additional blankets.

The Lounge offers a spacious living space, comprising two comfortable leather sofas and a window seat. An inglenook fireplace houses a wood burning stove with Kindling and logs provided.

A 42” flat screen television with Blu-ray DVD player comes complete with a large selection of DVD films and box sets for your entertainment. A Bose Sounddock is provided for your IPhone and IPod. Also provided is a selection of books, childrens books, magazines and games.

The Kitchen is fully fitted, complete with an electric double oven, extractor fan, fridge (there is also a freezer in the garage), built in microwave, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. There is also a toaster, kettle, and Nespresso coffee machine, complete with supply of pods (unfortunately, George Clooney not included!!) and Cafetiere.

Supplied is crockery, cutlery, glass tumblers, wine and champagne glasses, bowls, serving dishes and a comprehensive range of cooking utensils (should you feel inclined!). There is also a selection of unbreakable dishes and glasses for alfresco dining.

The Dining Area provides a table and four chairs.

The Porch has the two extra dining chairs and provides a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the wonderful views to the sea and the Lake District beyond with your cup of tea or coffee.

The tiled Bathroom comprises the full size bath with wall shower, toilet, wash hand basin with drawer for all your toiletries, Hair Dryer, heated towel rail, mirrored wall cabinet including a shaving point and Shaving / Makeup Mirror. Towels are supplied.

The accommodation is non-smoking.

About Linda Scott

I live in south West Scotland on the Solway Coast overlooking the sea with panoramic views accross to the Lake District with my husband Peter our Border Terrier dog Tori and my mother Margaret and her blind Jack Russell dog Suzi.

I have always enjoyed outdoor activities and sports including show jumping, clay pigeon shooting and I am a keen golfer playing out of Southerness GC.

Why Linda Scott chose Dumfries & Galloway

Victory Cottage is located in the exclusive quiet and peaceful hamlet of Portling, offering superb sea views and easy access to various beaches in the area, with Port O’Warren beach a very short walk down the lane.

The cottage became available in 2010 and we thought it made an ideal location for the perfect luxury seaside holiday retreat and set about a total refurbishment to a very high standard. We added a sympathetic sun porch and also a large summerhouse on the top terrace of the garden - the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning sea views from!

The cottage is easily accessed on a private lane and is situated on the coastal path between Sandyhills Beach and Rockcliffe Beach and the path can be accessed privately from the garden – ideal for walking dogs.

What makes this cottage unique

Although peaceful, Victory cottage is not isolated and the local shop is a 2 min drive away, very handy for your holiday provisions. The nearest town, Dalbeattie is 10 mins drive, Castle Douglas “The Food Town” is 20 mins drive and Tesco deliver to the cottage if you prefer.

The large summerhouse and BBQ area is a super place to relax with your cup of coffee, glass of beer or wine and take in the stunning sea views over to the mountains of the Lake District or to Mersehead Nature Reserve. In the winter months you can watch the Barnacle Geese flying past the cottage to and from the Reserve – a magnificent sight and sound!

The abundance of wildlife in the garden includes: Roe deer, badgers, pheasants, a huge selection of wild birds, foxes, stoats etc.

Can recommend the Steamboat Inn for traditional pub food if you want somewhere you can take your dog(s) in too. (at Carsethorn).

Nearest airports are Prestwick (1hr 45 mins), Glasgow (2 hr), Edinburgh (2 hr 15 mins), or Newcastle (2 hr 15 mins).

Stranraer - Cairnryan Ferry Terminal (1hr 50 mins).

Railway Stations - Dumfries (30 mins),

Use of a car is recommended.

Dalbeattie town is 10 mins, Castle Douglas is 20 mins, Kirkcudbright 30 mins and Dumfries is 30 mins.

Further Details:

Notes on accommodation: Luxury accommodation with very close attention to detail. Victory Cottage is strictly non-smoking. Outside: There is a large tropical type terraced garden with lawn and various seating areas. The top terrace is where the Summerhouse, BBQ, table and chairs and outside lounging furniture is situated offering stunning views over the sea. The perfect place to enjoy your cup of coffee or glass of wine. A huge variety of wildlife pass through the garden, e.g. roe deer, red squirrels, stoats, badgers, wild birds. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Luxury 800 count Egyptian cotton bedlinen and all towels and tea towels, including doggy towels are provided and changed weekly. The cottage is cleaned weekly, but additional cleaning can be arranged at an extra cost if required. Other: The dining area provides a table and four chairs and the sun porch has two extra chairs.

Lovely location and top quality all round

Perfect spot with a lovely garden and views over the bay. Excellent quality furniture and fittings a pleasure to use. Extremely generous hamper on arrival. Easy access to lots of beautiful beaches and countryside with resident rabbits! A Great break away from it all but close enough to towns and to Glasgow for a day out by train. Many thanks

Best accommodation we have stayed in!

This is a well equipped Cottage decorated to a very high standard. The beds are really comfortable, great power shower, a kitchen with every utensil you could need and amazing views from every window

Linda was most welcoming and the basket of goodies was lovely and much appreciated

It is in a very small hamlet off the beaten track with beautiful views across the Solway firth to the Lake District with direct access to the coastal path through the wonderful terraced garden

The summer house and seating offer superb vistas of sandy hills bay and you cannot fail to relax especially if you happen to have fabulous weather as we did

Would not hesitate to recommend booking a holiday in Victiory Cottage

A delightful cottage with superb views

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Victory Cottage in what has to be the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Linda is very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

The views from the cottage are delightful especially from the top of the garden and the summer house. We loved every moment of our stay and hope to return again at some point in the future. Our dog also loved it. Thank you Linda for your welcome

Immaculate cottage, beautifully presented and comfortable in peaceful location.

We enjoyed a relaxing stay with our dogs, who loved the long scenic walks as much as we did.

The coastal walks and Forrest walks are amazing. Mabie Forrest is a must if you like to let your dogs off lead.

This was our first visit, we've booked our second!
