There is a comfortable open plan lounge/dining area with flat screen TV/DVD and radio/cd player, games and books. We also provide free wi-fi internet access.
The bathroom is ensuite with a large walk in shower cubicle, toilet and hand wash basin. Bed linen, towels and toiletries are included.
There is a separate laundry room. You can also leave muddy boots here and dry your outdoor clothing. Keen cyclists will also find puncture repair kits are kept here - but hopefully you won't need them!
There is also a lockable store for bikes or other outdoor equipment.
The Barn at Mead Farm is a truly special place on the doorstep of the Pennine Way. With views throughout the Hope Valley, and the iconic Lose Hill, Win Hill and Kinder Scout range right on your doorstep it really is the perfect place to come and get away from it all.
The Barn has been lovingly rebuilt in the original stone to reflect its history but with the benefits of modern living within. The bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses. The ground floors are fully tiled with underfloor heating, with traditional radiators in the bedrooms. The original barn has been divided into two adjoining cottages, the smaller being The Acorn which sleeps two and the larger being The Oaks which will sleep up to five, all with ensuite bedrooms.
Light and airy with a contemporary feel, The Barn is an ideal place to relax after a long day exploring the area whether walking, cycling or sightseeing and taking in the many local attractions. Both cottages are totally non-smoking, as are the patio and barbeque areas.
Both cottages have central heating and are fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. We provide all towels and bedlinen.
There are paved patio areas to the front and rear of the barn, both enjoying superb views across the Hope Valley. There is a sheltered patio with picnic tables and barbeques for the summer months where you can enjoy views over Win Hill. Guests are also welcome to explore the private farmland where we have a flock of 50 sheep grazing with their lambs in the spring season.
There is off road parking provided in front of the barn with space for three cars. Further parking space is available if required and also lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.
Mead Farm is situated in the heart of The Peak National Park with easy access to walks in every direction. With views to both Win Hill and Lose Hill, it is in an area of outstanding beauty, but within easy reach of local amenities.
The village of Hope is about 10 minutes walk away and has local shops and pubs. All of the major supermarkets deliver so if you want to order groceries online we are happy to receive them and pack them away ready for your arrival. There is a fridge and freezer in both cottages, and plenty of storage space for groceries.
The railway station is about two miles away from the village and is on the main Manchester to Sheffield line. There is a bus route which runs through to Sheffield from Castleton.
Castleton is the busiest village in the area with plenty of places of interest to visit - The Blue John Mine, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peveril Castle to name just a few. There are several interesting shops selling jewellery and gifts and a variety of places to eat and drink.
The Barn is a short walk from The Cheshire Cheese Inn just along Edale Road. The Cheese has all the warmth of a traditional English pub with a friendly welcome good food and drink and a great atmosphere. It has a regular folk music night on the first and third thursdays of the month which is a real local institution and great fun.
We provide a welcome pack comprising tea, coffee, milk, bread, butter, jam and cake for an afternoon tea upon arrival. Also included are cleaning materials, foil, cling film and kitchen roll. We also provide bathroom toiletries for your comfort. A high chair and travel cot is available at no extra charge, all you need to do is bring along the babies own special bedding!
Our Stay in The Acorn has been lovely. It has everything you need and so cosy and warm to come back to after walking the surrounding area. Great for walking straight from the door and wonderful views. We will be back again!

Another great week at The Barns. Sunshine all week! Visited Chatsworth and Longshaw estate, climbed Win Hill - great views. Climbed Lose Hill and made our way down to Castleton from Hollins Cross for lunch at the Rose Cottage. Had a lovely hearty meal one evening at Edale.

I stayed here over new year and this will be my 7th new year staying at Mead Farm. I have stayed in both the Acorn and the Oak and both properties are beautiful, very clean and very well maintained. Hope is also a lovely village and its a great location in which to explore the area. Chris and Tania are great hosts and are always there if you need anything. The freshly made scones served on arrival are amazing. I cant wait to come back for 2017 new year. I would recommend the cottages to anyone.
The acorn is just perfect for a couples break in the beautiful Peak District. Chris and Tanya were the perfect hosts . We were lucky to find a late cancellation over Christmas. The cottage was well equipped and stylishly presented with Christmas decorations. Having warm scones and a welcome pack was a real treat . There are great walks from the doorstep and a good pub within walking distance . A bonus was the owners 9 newly born puppies . Would definitely recommended the acorn and look forward to returning.
Property was fantastic , in a beautiful location with a lovely welcome from the owners
This was the second time we stayed here and it was equally as good as the first (if not better due to the weather!) It's a fantastic base for walking and a lovely, cosy haven to come home to. Modern inside but with lots of character, the property has everything you need and Christopher is very friendly and hospitable. I would definitely recommend this property.
A beautifully appointed 1 bed accommodation, a friendly welcome from the owner [ including freshly baked scones ] Situated in an extremely quiet area, it suited us perfectly. Great pubs in Castleton for meals and plenty of villages to visit, I recommend this highly.
