The house is about 200 years old and is built around a large central room. It has lovely high ceilings so remains cool even in the intense summer heat and all bedrooms have air-conditioning. Set in the tiny village of Los Pinos it commands fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. It is in a totally private setting and is ideal for family holidays. It is a unique house with outstanding facilities particularly the large pool area with shaded eating area, gas barbecue, table tennis table, sunbeds and further seating which can accommodate 2 families with ease.
Being an old property it is full of character and interesting features. The bedrooms are situated around a main central room and some of them are connecting. There are 2 bathrooms in the main house and a toilet and shower outside in the pool area which also has its own bar room.

About the Owner
About Mouse Hamilton-Fairley
We have owned the house for over 25 years and used it for family holidays ever since. La Casa Grande is a very special place to us and we have seen our children grow up here year on year but now we are in our 50's and the children are leaving home it doesn't get the use it deserves so we are embarking on a new era of letting it out when previously it has only been let to friends. It is a charming, characterful, unique property that lends itself to the perfect holiday for those who want to lounge by the pool and do nothing and for those who want to enjoy some action - make of it what you will!
Mouse Hamilton-Fairley purchased this house in 1980
Why Mouse Hamilton-Fairley chose Mojacar area
We visited friends in the area who had a house near Mojacar and fell in love with it. The house and grounds are totally private and the views and smell of the mountain thyme are inspiring. It has been used by artist groups over the years who find the scenery and light most conducive to painting.
What makes this house unique
Having the swimming pool and tennis court on your doorstep means you don't have to go out if you don't want to but when you feel like branching out there are some gorgeous places to visit in and out of season. Then there is always the draw of the sea and the beach or the National Park if you want a day out before returning to the peace and tranquility of Los Pinos.

Lovely old Spanish farmhouse
We were a large family group of 7 adults and 2 children and this proved to be the perfect accommodation for us . The farmhouse is very spacious and very homely . There's everything you could possibly require and very well maintained for such an old building . The enormous pool provided somewhere to cool off and of course the tennis courts where great fun if you were feeling energetic ! We love Bedar and visited the usual restaurants , Miramar , El Paso and Cortijo all serve delicious food , huge portions ! We did the usual trips to Mojacar for the beach and market and an evening in Garrucha . Every single one of us felt sad to leave to come home to rainy Scotland ,we would definately book the farmhouse again as it felt like a home from home ! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful house !

Activity and Interests
Mojacar Playa is 22km away which offers a plethora of bars and restaurants and water sports are available in the high season. There are more rugged and quieter beaches to the south when you enter the Nijar National Park of the Cabo de Gata with some very scenic villages such as Agua Amarga and San Jose well worth a visit.
Almeria is the closest airport about 50 minutes drive but it is an easy drive from Alicante (about 2 hours) and Murcia (about 1 1/2 hours) as well. It is essential to hire a car.
The nearest town with amenities is the picturesque old artists' colony town of Bedar which is about an 8 minute drive or 40 minute walk. Further shopping can be done in Turre, about a 20 minute drive or down on the coast at Mojacar or Garrucha or the inland town of Vera - all about 30 minutes drive.
Bedar has a bank, doctor, bakery, pharmacy, two small supermarkets and various restaurants and bars. Perched on the hillside it has views of the sea and very narrow streets!
The area is popular with cyclists both in and out of season but only for the fit and daring as the hills are quite steep! It is possible to hire bikes in Mojacar. There are also some lovely walks from the house down and around the old tin mines which are well signposted.

- Notes on accommodation: The house is furnished simply but tastefully. Because of the climate in the area most summer holidaymakers will tend to spend most of their time outside enjoying the extensive facilities that make La Casa Grande such a special place to stay. It has been our family holiday home for over 20 years and can be recommended for families of all ages. The area also has a lot to offer out of season to walkers and cyclists. Outside: There is a small garden at the front of the property, extensive trees and shrubs leading down to the tennis court and the whole property is surrounded by olive and almond trees typical of the area. There is a large swimming pool, which can be heated but is not usually necessary, a gas barbecue, a variety of sunbeds and loungers, an outdoor sofa and a swing seat. There is also a wc and outside shower (cold only) for use before and after swimming. In addition there is a pool bar with fridge freezer and sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and it is possible to arrange a linen change once a week by prior appointment and at separate cost, the same applies to cleaning.
