Guestbook comments from the owner

Natalie J, London, September 2014: "We had a wonderful late summer holiday and thoroughly enjoyed the comforts of the villa, pretty garden and pool. The house is very well maintained and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Especially good for holidays with children as it is secure and all on one level. We particularly enjoyed barbecues by the pool (it is a charcoal barbecue). The guardian is also helpful. Would definitely return."

Excellent, just what we would have wished for.

  • 5 of 5

The house is lovely, particularly the garden. The whole family spent hours just lounging by the pool and in the gardens and there's plenty of space for anyone who wants to to lose themselves in a sunny or shady corner. We were well looked after by the local guy and the town of St Andre is handy for shops, takeaway pizza etc.

Were it not that we like going somewhere different every year we'd happily go back.

A lovely private villa, not too isolated.

  • 5 of 5

The villa and grounds are lovely, well maintained and well equipped. The owners and guardian were extremely helpful, we had no problems. We had great weather so spent most of our holiday relaxing around the pool and BBQ area. A trip to the coast is well worth a day out, Collioure and Port Vendres very pretty. Plenty of nice restaurants in Argeles Plage and surrounds. We would recommend this villa for couples or a family.

Location

From the Owner

The region is stunning and peaceful. It offers opportunities for all types of enthusiast - proximity to some of the best beaches in France, beautiful countryside and rambling, mesmerising castles and history, wonderful local produce and markets, warm and friendly people.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The villa offers easy access to the artistic fishing village of Collioure (15 minutes drive), famed for its beautiful ramparts spilling into the sea, and the wide sandy beaches of Argeles and Racou Plage (10 minutes drive). Argeles has one of the best beaches in all of France, with the majestic Pyrenees as a backdrop to your sunbathing. Water sports, boat hire and scuba diving are also available.

Travel:

Fly to either Perpignan (France), Girona (Spain), Carcassone (France) or Barcelona (Spain) from many UK airports. Villa Les Mimosas is only 20 minutes drive from Perpignan, 1 hour from Girona or Carcassone and 1 hour 45 minutes from Barcelona.

Car hire is recommended for the local area. Taxis from Perpignan airport or TGV rail station are also an option.

Distances:

Local amenities and shops in Saint Andre Village are between 5-20 minutes walk away depending on location in the village. Charming Collioure is 15 mins drive, Argeles and the lovely beaches about 10 mins drive. Perpignan for its castillet and shopping is around 20 minutes drive.

Further Details:

With its mild climate, the area offers plenty of outdoor fun with walking and cycling holidays in the picturesque countryside and more adventurous activities like canyoning in the vicinity. The area is also full of history, with several Cathar castles and ruins nearby, mountain monasteries and magnificent church cloisters.

Nearby activities on offer include horse riding in the forests and hills, canyoning, rock climbing, fishing, tennis, golf and wildlife parks. There are excellent walks and hikes for all levels in the nearby Alberes and Pyrenees mountains with breathtaking views of the villages, countryside and coastline.

Nearby villages include St. Genis des Fontaines, Palau del Vidre (famous for glass-ware), Sorede, Banyuls, all offering wonderful markets with local produce, fruits and wines (including the famous Muscat and Banyuls aperitif). There are a variety of excellent restaurants in the area, some specialising in local seafood and Catalan cuisine, others more chic with Michelin starred cuisine. We offer a list of recommendations. Surrounding the villa are picturesque vineyards spanning the countryside and numerous Chateaux, so don't forget to sample the local wine!

For a cultural treat, visit Perpignan's medieval Cathedral, Palace and Castillet, the fort at Salses, fortified town of Villefranche or the medieval and Roman churches in Saint Andre and the nearby villages. Or head to the Tech valley (25 minutes drive) to see the spectacular rock formations and Cathar castles and ruins perched on high rocky peaks overlooking orchards and vineyards.

For a taste of Spain, only one hour to the south is the beautiful Spanish town of Girona and one and three quarter hours away is the exciting city of Barcelona for a fun night out, shopping and the many delicious tapas restaurants.

Facilities

From the Owner

The villa is perfectly situated to be close to a village and amenities and still offers wonderful seclusion without being isolated. It is very large and private, and with the pool and spacious garden, it means you can comfortably enjoy spending lazy days at the property or get out and about into the immediate countryside. Being beautifully modernised, it feels like a boutique hotel, meaning you get the best of a villa and a hotel-style experience.
