About Hannah Owen

Myself, my husband and our 2 young children live in Highgate farmhouse, with the cottages set in the grounds. We also share Highgate with our very friendly dog Bessie, 3 miniature Shetland ponies and 2 young alpacas. Find updates, photos and special offers on our Facebook page, Highgate Cottages.

Why Hannah Owen chose Wales

Highgate Holiday Cottages are converted from a 19th century mill barn and stand within the grounds of Highgate House. The gardens surrounding the cottages are beautifully maintained, with lawned areas, mature trees and well stocked flower borders. A stroll around the grounds reveal the stunning views over the adjoining rolling countryside and the Highgate Valley. Our cottages can offer you the peace and tranquillity of the stunning mid Wales countryside, as well as a gateway to explore nearby Powis Castle, Lake Vrynwy, the Welsh coast, Snowdonia National Park and beyond.

What makes this cottage unique

To the rear of the cottages is the delightful mill pond, which provides a wonderful vista from the private balcony terraces of the barns. Here you will find our beautiful pergoda and paved seating area. The pond is stocked with trout and attracts an abundance of wildlife, including otters, throughout the year, whilst red kites are often seen circling overhead. Here at Highgate we welcome dogs, who love to take a dip in the pool. Young families are well catered for, with highchairs, travel cots, stair gates and a cot bed available. We also have 3 miniature Shetland ponies to see, as well as 2 (rather shy) alpacas.

Lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

Instructions prior to arrival were excellent, the house was spacious well maintained with fantastic gardens.

Everything you could want for a short or long stay was supplied, there are plenty of pubs close by and a small town a short drive away with the usual banks and supermarkets.

It's an ideal location for the Welsh coast as well as the National park.

Very peaceful location with little to no noise from the farm or neighbours.

A relaxing week at the cottage with stunning grounds

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage, clean, tidy and everything we needed even stairgate and highchair on request. It was perfect for our family including toddler and dog.

The grounds are stunning with the advantage of a fishing pool. The patio area is perfect for relaxing. My little boy especially loved the animals.

Newtown and Welshpool are a short drive away and there are nearby gardens and Powys castle to visit.

We would recommend this cottage and may return next year.
