Why Hannah Owen chose Wales

Highgate Holiday Cottages are converted from a 19th century mill barn and stand within the grounds of Highgate House. The gardens surrounding the cottages are beautifully maintained, with lawned areas, mature trees and well stocked flower borders. A stroll around the grounds reveal the stunning views over the adjoining rolling countryside and the Highgate Valley. Our cottages can offer you the peace and tranquillity of the stunning mid Wales countryside, as well as a gateway to explore nearby Powis Castle, Lake Vrynwy, the Welsh coast, Snowdonia National Park and beyond.

What makes this cottage unique

To the rear of the cottages is the delightful mill pond, which provides a wonderful vista from the private balcony terraces of the barns. Here you will find our beautiful pergoda and paved seating area. The pond is stocked with trout and attracts an abundance of wildlife, including otters, throughout the year, whilst red kites are often seen circling overhead. Here at Highgate we welcome dogs, who love to take a dip in the pool. Young families are well catered for, with highchairs, travel cots, and stair gates available. We also have 3 miniature Shetland ponies, 2 alpacas, 3 pygmy goats and 2 kune kune pigs to see.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Quarry cottage was in a beautiful location for our annual family weekend ( 4 adults, 2 children and a dog )

It was spacious, warm accommodation with four en suite bedrooms with ample hot water and a comfy chair in each bedroom enabling a quiet time for ourselves.

The kitchen is well stocked with a variety of utensils.

The open plan dinning area which leads from the kitchen meant we could easily enjoy meals around the large table.

The lounge area has comfortable sofas we could all sit on while enjoying the views of the pond and trees. Dane, thoughtfully tied some bird feed to the patio rails so we watched a variety of birds feeding.

The children were thrilled to be able to feed apples given to us by Hannah, to the Shetland Ponies.

We enjoyed quiet walks from the cottage. It was nice that the children could play in the fenced patio area.

We travelled to Llanfair and had a super ride to Welshpool and back on the steam railway. Newtown swimming pool was another good outing.

Thank-you for a wonderful weekend.

Amazing place, loved it

  • 5 of 5

We all loved it here (party of 8). Can't fault the place, local area beautiful. Found a great resultant in Newtown called Mirrens. Bull and heifer pub is about a mile away down a hilly lane, nice walk and welcome beer at the end.
