Everything we wanted!! more spacious than we were expecting actually, beautiful surrounding

Enjoyed every part of it, from the well kept, spacious cottage to the beautiful surroundings it sits in! The hotel also has great amenities. Very relaxed about our 11 month old eating in the bar & restaurant which is not always the case! We used this as a base so we could visit other parts of Cornwall but found myself pleased at the end of the day when we could head back to the cottage and relax!

The property was lovely but siting was difficult as two of our party had walking difficulties.

  • 4 of 5

Overall it was very good and well appointed. We were missing a parasol but this was provided on request.

Our only disappointments were the single beds which needed replacing as the creaked and were lumpy, and the sofas which were a bit too low to the ground.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'm sorry that two of your party had difficulties with the siting of the lodge. I understand that the lodge may not have been suitable for your group but we do have many elderly people (which I believe is relevant to two members of your party) who have mobility and other health issues who stay at the cottage without difficulty. It is not possible for me to make an assessment of the health or fitness of guests who stay at the cottage, I can only describe the terrain as best I can to anyone who asks and cannot advise on suitability for individual cases. Regarding the sofas, these are standard ones which are used in all the cottages on site. They are pictured on our website. This is the first time that we have received a comment of this nature but understand, given the health problems of individuals which you described in more detail in your previous email to me, that these may have been an issue. With reference to the single beds, I am sorry if you or members of your party felt them to be uncomfortable. We do appreciate you letting us know and we are currently looking into this following your email of two weeks ago. We have already addressed the issue with the parasols at the cottage and these should be arriving at the cottage this week. I understand the hotel provided one for you. Once again, thank you very much for sending through your review and thank you for having stayed with us. We hope you have a pleasant Summer. Kind regards Christine

Best of both worlds!

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous holiday!

We have visited Fowey every year for 17 years and always stayed in the same accommodation which we loved. Unfortunately we were unable to book our usual venue which is why we found ourselves in Scrumpy Cottage.

Well! Thank goodness we did! What a fabulous property. Stylishly decorated, yet still warm and family friendly, to a high standard and situated in the perfect spot on the complex. At the end of the road, so no passing traffic (which was minimal anyway), near enough tibthe play area that our 8 and 13 year olds could nip out to play and a short walk through the gardens up to the hotel where we could enjoy the pool (with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room), therapy rooms, gym, restaurant and bar!

There was also a children's club which we didn't make use of this holiday but had a great selection of activities.

The hotel and grounds are stunning with views to match and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.

I sound like I'm gushing, but that's because I am! This property had a lot to live up to and it certainly did, in fact it surpassed all our expectations!

If I had one complaint, it would be that the cottage could do with a couple more roasting tins! We did manage with a bit of juggling, so really this is just a "it would be nice if" comment and really didn't cause a problem!

We stayed for two weeks and after just four days emailed to book again for next year! This property provides the flexibility of self catering and the extra luxuries of hotel living and so is the best of both worlds!

Fowey is only 2 miles away by car and there is a bus that runs 3 times an hour from directly outside the estate, which is wonderful as parking in Fowey is a nightmare. We are also only 3 miles from Par Sands, a magnificent sandy beach.

Fowey is only 2 miles away, Par Sands about 3 miles and The Eden Project about 12 miles away.
