'The Signal Box' at Loddiswell Station provides an exemplary standard of accommodation and is thoughtfully fitted out as a true 'home-from-home'. Situated in the most idyllic and tranquil wooded riverside location, it is perfectly located for exploring the wide range of attractions this area has to offer.

The ground floor bedrooms sleep up to 4 comprising a very comfortable king-sized double and a smaller twin-bedded room, making this unusual property ideally suited both to a couple or a family. There is a separate well-appointed shower room.

The first floor is open-plan with a fully-fitted kitchen, dining and separate sitting areas complete with cosy wood burning stove. The expansive windows look down to the river Avon and the lovely valley beyond. Lovers of the outdoors, wildlife, fishing and heritage will enjoy all that this special and very different property has to offer.

As a 'pet friendly' family (we have a Labrador retriever) we welcome well behaved dogs. You will simply love the amazing walks straight from the front door!

'The Signal Box' sits in the Avon Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and quietly stands 'trackside' along the route of the former Great Western Railway's 'Primrose Line', adjacent to the sympathetically-converted Loddiswell Railway Station

We are less than 4 miles from the vibrant market town of Kingsbridge between the villages of Loddiswell and Woodleigh. There is a full range of amenities right on the doorstep including: pub/restaurant; cafes; village store; garden centre; farm shop; post office and many footpaths. The broader attractions of the South Hams - from beaches to moors, towns to countryside - are also all conveniently accessed from this magical spot.

About Richard Curzon

Richard and Nikki Curzon met in the 1990s. Work commitments saw them regularly moving all around the country but, with the arrival of their young family, the time came to find somewhere special to settle down and call home. 'The Signal Box' outbuilding presented the ideal opportunity to run a business from home and experience a completely different lifestyle.

Why Richard Curzon chose South Hams

Loddiswell Station is a property with so much character! With almost 4 acres of grounds encompassing gardens, meadow, woodlands and river this is a wonderful spot rich in wildlife and offering the very best of the outdoors. It is a remarkably peaceful, rural spot and yet it never feels isolated, with so many facilities and attractions on hand. Within 20 minutes you can be on a beach or on Dartmoor!

What makes this cottage unique

From the accommodation you can gaze out over the former railway track and imagine what it must have been like 100 years ago in the age of steam; or you can watch the buzzards circling overhead the beautiful Avon Valley, with the rabbits playing on the old track bed - it's such a relaxing spot.

Take time to wander the grounds, looking at the various bits of railwayana or admire the spectacular display of wild Primroses (spring time), you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an otter, dormouse, bat or a grass snake - the wildlife here is truly spectacular.

A very lovely conversion,very tastefully decorated

/A very enjoyable stay, very warm and confortable. We were three adults, I do feel if it was four adults the second bedroom would not be adequate, especially as there was no window in the room and very small.

Comfortable and very spacious, well equipped.

This accommodation is very spacious, very well equipped and an absolute delight to stay in. The extra touches of toiletries,towels,home made bread and jam, coffee and tea, with butter and milk which were very welcomed after our long journey.

The grounds were idyllic and peaceful and we enjoyed a walk in the lovely woodland.

The owners were very welcoming and helpful.

I would highly recommend this lovely signal box

Beautiful place to stay.

The Signal Box is immaculately presented with everything you might need for your stay. It's a superb spot just off a quite Devon lane. The grounds drop down to the river which is postcard material. Dogs in heaven! You are near the moors and the coast. Loads of great places to go and see. Owners are lovely and friendly. Top spot. Go there!

A deposit of 20% of the weekly accommodation charge is payable in order to secure your reservation.

Full payment is required 8 weeks prior to arrival.

Please contact us for all enquiries; we shall forward to you a booking form with further details including full payment information.

Pets are most welcome, a surcharge of £25 is payable per animal.

Our changeover day routinely is FRIDAY; arrival after 3pm and departure by 10am.

During peak months (May - September), minimum booking is 7 nights.

Outside of high season we can offer flexible changeover days dependant upon other circumstances; please check for availability.

Notes on prices:

Short-stay bookings are possible during low season or subject to availability; tariff charged at 70% for 3 nights, 75% for 4 nights and 85% for 5 nights, based on our standard weekly rate. PLEASE CHECK WITH US TO CONFIRM THE CORRECT PRICE.

(NB short stay prices are automatically calculated by the Owners' Direct listing and can be incorrect - it can only show a crude average, ie each day is presented as 1/7th of the full weekly rate. As the listing owner, we have no control over how the website displays this.)

Payment directly to the owners by Bank Transfer or by cheque.

Notes on accommodation: Broadband access/wifi is available; mobile signal is variable and network dependant. (Please note that internet access is offered free of charge for recreational purposes only and is not meant for business use, the speed/service may vary.) A welcome pack, logs for the wood burner, and electricity are included in the tariff. Outside: The Signal Box is located adjacent to the 1890's former railway station, it is an addition to the original buildings designed by the renowned railway architect William Clarke. Visitors have exclusive use of the garden area surrounding the Signal Box, but also have access to the gardens, meadow, woodland and riverside surrounding the property (approaching 4 acres). From the meadow, visitors have direct access to the level riverside footpath tracing the route of the former 'Primrose Railway Line'. Outdoor patio furniture is provided and a BBQ is available. Storage can be provided for bicycles, canoes, sailing equipment, etc, by arrangement. There is ample private off road parking. Cleaning / Towels / Linen: All bed linen and towels are included (refreshed weekly on changeover days or by arrangement). Please supply your own beach towels. Other: Ground floor entrance hallway Storage for coats, boots, etc.
