Trethowell Cottage is a lovely example of the classic granite Cornish style. Built around 1860 as a farm cottage and extended in the 1960's it is furnished and equipped to a high standard. It has thick stone walls under a slate roof, set on a very quiet country lane in beautiful farmland with views of the tidal creek. It is a peaceful and special place. It has a lovely well stocked garden with no near neighbours giving guests complete peace and tranquility.

The charming and interesting Cathedral city of Truro is a 25 minute walk away or a 5 minute drive and the lively port town of Falmouth is only 8 miles away.

The living room is well furnished with comfortable furniture and modern entertainment systems, a slate floor and a log burning stove in the fireplace. The kitchen has a full range of modern appliances set next to an oil fired Rayburn cooker, and also has a breakfast table to catch the morning sun and views of the garden. On the first floor there are three bedrooms each connected by the landing to the main bathroom. There is a downstairs WC and a well equipped utility room. The cottage has double glazing and full central heating. WiFi is provided free. Parking for one car on the drive and space for further cars in a farm lay-by just along the lane.

This is a superb location for touring, walking or cycling and is just off the beaten track making it peaceful even when Cornwall is at the busiest peak of the tourist season.

Please note that our peak season change-over day is Friday, a good day for guests to travel as the major routes to Cornwall can be very busy on Saturdays, out of peak season we can often be more flexible.

About the Owner

We have recently moved to Cornwall from Worcestershire, and visit our Cornish cottage regularly, we both had successful corporate careers, but thankfully that is all behind us now. We have been regular visitors to Cornwall for much of our lives and love the County and all that is has to offer. We have relatives living and working in Cornwall. We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years. Some of these have been really good and some less so, we would never want our guests to be disappointed so we do not provide cast off furnishings and old electrical equipment and we work hard with our house keepers to to ensure that the cottage is clean and well maintained.

We love this area, so close to everything but just off the beaten track giving you the best of both worlds. In particular we love to walk along the tidal creeks and on the coastal path. This area of Cornwall now boasts plenty of really good restaurants and has charming and vibrant towns and cities.

Fantastic private cottage

Arrived with early check in which was very flexible.. The cottage is beautiful and furnished to an exceptional standard it was spotlessly clean and milk and toiletries left. The location was stunning so peaceful and yet about 20 minute walk to Truro. I shall defiantly be booking for the summer. Thanks Mike

Our stay at Trethowell

We had a very pleasant stay at the cottage with the location, facilities and comfort all that could be asked for. Although we were only two persons, it was sufficiently large enough for a normal size family.

The cottage was in the country, but only 5 minutes by car to the centre of Truro, easily accessible to King Harry Ferry, Falmouth and either coast. The footpaths were well signed from the cottage and plenty of information supplied as well as books and maps.

We are considering returning to the region and will certainly put the cottage at the top of our list. Thank you Mike for making your cottage available to rent.

A Superb Holiday Cottage

This cottage was an ideal location for visiting the central part of Cornwall with easy access to both coasts. Plenty of excellent Gardens to visit within very easy reach, and so many coastal and river sites nearby. The cottage was everything as described and more, such a peaceful location . This cottage was so well equipped. The beds were so very comfortable .The Kitchen equipped with all that is needed and to a very high quality. Such a lovely garden with views down to the river Fal. This will be a cottage we can certainly recommend to family and friends, and we hope to return next year.

Extremely well appointed country cottage

Trethowell is no ordinary holiday cottage. It is unusually well furnished, has matching crockery/cutlery and all the equipment is top notch from the kettle and coffee pod machine to the Rayburn and laundry facilities. You could say it is better than a home from home! The cottage is well sited and if the fact that it is on a country lane bothers you, don't let it. I took earplugs with me but didn't need them once. The beds are extremely comfortable and there is loads of hanging space (and hangers) and an abundance of hair dryers. We had a wonderful week and were blessed with lovely weather so enjoyed some meals in the very pretty, peaceful garden. I only hope it is available when we next need a Cornish break.

Wonderful cottage near Truro

Trethowell Cottage is truly a home away from home. The location is idyllic, off the beaten track (but not isolated by any means), and a quiet haven after each and every day trip. The place is spotless, the furnishings very comfortable, with a nice, large kitchen. The three bedrooms (we only used two) are each well furnished with quality sheets and towels. The garden at the rear of the cottage is lovely with fine views of the area in each direction. The owner was most accommodating in all respects. We highly recommend this property.

We bought Trethowell Cottage in 2014. We love the cottage and its location, so convenient for access to Truro, Falmouth and the whole of Cornwall, but in a beautiful peaceful location with a pretty garden surrounded by farm land. Even at the height of the tourist season this is a haven of peace, but a short walk on country lanes and a green track take you right to the heart of Truro.

Coast/Beach:

Loe beach water sports centre is approx 3 miles away.

There are beautiful beaches on the North and South coast all easily accessible within 30 mins drive.

Travel:

The cottage is located on a quiet country lane and the nearest bus stop is around 1 mile away so a car is recommended. Hire cars are available in Truro. The mainline railway station at Truro is 1.5 miles away. The nearest airport is at Newquay around 8 miles away.

Distances:

Truro city 1.5 miles.

Playing Place 1.5 miles.

Falmouth 8 miles.

Loe Beach water sports center 3 miles.

Further Details:

Nearby the village of Playing Place has a Spar shop and petrol station. Truro City is well served by speciality shops, supermarkets, cafes and bars with a famous steet market twice weekly on the Piazza of Lemon Quay. The port town of Falmouth also has a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants with a busy port and sailing marina. Nearby King Harry Ferry is a chain driven car ferry, voted as one of the most beautiful ferry crossings in the world, giving access to the Roseland peninsula. Trelissick National Trust Gardens are also adjacent to the ferry and are a lovely 3 mile walk away. Sailing and watersports are available at Loe Beach a couple of miles away. Cycle hire is available locally as well and they are happy to deliver and collect bikes and arrange tours if required.

There are two Golf courses within 3 miles of the cottage.

Booking Notes:
A 25% deposit is required to secure the booking with the balance to be paid 6 weeks before the arrival date. An additional refundable security deposit of £100 is also required when paying the balance. Sorry but we do not accept dogs. We do not normally accept children under the age of 5, but we can be flexible. We do not provide high chairs, stairgates, cots etc.
Guests agree when booking to leave the cottage clean and tidy, not to move furniture around and to place rubbish out for collection. Damage and breakages must be reported. Failure to comply may result in charge against the damage deposit.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is normally Friday but we can be flexible outside of high season. Check in not before 1500 and departure by 1000.

The walk into Truro City is lovely, the nearby tidal creeks are stunning and teem with bird life. There are walks aplenty and its also great if slightly hilly cycling country. Truro and Falmouth are charming places to visit to wander about, enjoy a coffee or a meal in a good restaurant or visit the beaches. Then at the end of the day to return to this pretty cottage with a lovely garden on a quiet lane is just a joy.
