About Heather Grover

We live in Nottinghamshire and have three grown up children. We both work and spent most of our spare time in 2014 completely refurbishing the cottage with the help of friends and family. We love walking, and enjoy a good meal out in a local pub or restaurant, and the cottage is perfect for both of these.

Why Heather Grover chose Kendal & South Lakes

We wanted to buy a cottage in the Lakes and Orphan Crag ticked all the boxes, being close to the central Lakes area but slightly off the beaten track.

What makes this cottage unique

Orphan Crag is just a few minutes drive from Kendal and a short stroll from an excellent local pub selling good beer and serving excellent food at reasonable prices.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had an absolutely fantastic time ... the cottage was beautifully and tastefully decorated and had everything we could have wished for. The views were stunning and the location was perfect, close to all amenities but really peaceful and secluded." Laura

Perfect escape

  • 5 of 5

This is a gem of a cottage in a quiet location. Tastefully renovated, spotlessly clean and everything as advertised. Comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. Perfect for access to the tourist spots (without the crowds) and for evening walks along Scout Scar. When the sun shines, it's difficult to fault the lovely Lyth valley. Excellent pubs within walking distance.

Excellent and well maintained property in a very charming and quiet village surrounded by meadows

  • 5 of 5

The stay was excellent. The owner was very professional and provided all the required information to have a pleasant stay at the cottage.

It is an excellent location and only about 8 miles to Lake Windermere.

The accommodation has a well equipped kitchen with a fridge/freezer, dish washer, induction hob and oven with extractor, washing machine, toaster, microwave, etc. Everything that you would need on a holiday. The kitchen also had some tea, sugar, and washing up and cleaning products too.

A wonderful living area and dining area with very good furniture all over.

The beds were very comfortable and had 3 lovely bedrooms and each one with large beds to sleep 2 adults. All towels and linen were provided so we didn't have to worry about carrying anything while on Holiday!

The only downside is that there is only one toilet/bathroom but not impossible to manage!

There is a very nice pub just at 2 minute walk and many other restaurants and takeaways in Kendal which is only about a 10 minute drive away.

Also, the owners had left us a bottle of wine and some nice shortbread upon arrival which was great!

Definitely recommended for a nice break with your family.

Wonderful cottage and a good base for exploring the Lakes.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay over Easter in this cottage, which is warm, wit ha very well-equipped kitchen, lots of hot water, and comfortable bedrooms. The village itself has a good pub, but no shop. It's a few miles from Kendal which is a good town to visit, and very handy if anyone is coming up by train. We did a wonderful walk up to Scout Scar, above the village, via the footpaths that lie around Underbarrow. Would highly recommend.

An absolute gem of a cottage

  • 5 of 5

The owners of this cottage have thought of everything to make your stay here about as perfect as it could possibly get. The accommodation was exactly as described, spotlessly clean, well maintained and in a superb location for exploring the Lakes. The kitchen was well equipped for the nights we dined in and everything was easy to use. Beds were comfortable and immaculate with white linen. There was even a bottle of complimentary wine and a box of shortbread biscuits on arrival which was a lovely touch. We enjoyed every second of our stay here and would highly recommend it to others. We will definitely be back. At the bottom of the lane is a pub called The Punchbowl which was an added bonus and serves the most amazing food, so this is well worth a visit. Suggest that you book though as it does get busy.
