I live in Cornwall with my wife and 2 children. We recently bought North Mine Cottage due to its proximity to our house. We love the village of Herodsfoot and hope that you will too if you choose to book.

Beautiful cottage set in small Cornish village

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at North Mine Cottage. The welcome bottle of red, the log burner, the aga all made for a superb break deep in the winter season. The cottage has everything you need, immaculately clean, and well positioned for local attractions. I am sure we will be back again.

Nombreux dysfonctionnements

  • 2 of 5

Nous avons déjà listé les problèmes par mail aux propriétaires. Nous aurions préféré leur en parler directement mais ils ne sont jamais venus nous voir à leur retour de congés, ni au moment du départ.

Les principaux problèmes rencontrés, at the arrival : In the kitchen, some cupboards smell very bad. Frying pans are for us totally unusable. Twin room : we feel all the springs of mattresses, we have the impression to sleep directly on springs. One of the mattresses has no protection. Numerous spiders in bedrooms and in bathroom (at the arrival, 9 spiders in the small bathroom). Towels smell bad. Beer cap found in the sofa. Pillows have no protection. First day : I am the first to take a shower. I discover that the water doesn't flow .The bathtub is filled(blocked). We try to clean the evacuation. For several years, we spend holidays in old cottages in Ireland, in UK... The problems for us are not because it's a old cottage. The problems are due to a serious lack of maintenance and poor quality equipment. Dommage, le cottage a pourtant du potentiel... Suite à l'envoi du listing des problèmes par mail, les propriétaires n'ont émis aucun regrets ni excuses.

Owner's Response: We were very sorry to have heard about the perceived problems that this guest found. Unfortunately Vicki and I were on our own holidays when this change over took place and had to employ a third party to clean and prepare the cottage. Yes, the cottage is old and does have a few spiders, but all the contents are less than 18 months old, regularly maintained and changed as required. I am usually on hand to address any problems because the cottage is at the end of our driveway, which has obviously helped us keep all our other guests happy or so the reviews would suggest.

The nearby coastal town of Looe is situated 13 miles from the village. The historic twin towns of East and West Looe provide all you could ask of a holiday in Cornwall. Safe beaches, a wide choice of restaurants, excellent walking routes, fishing trips, diving, etc.

Nearby beaches include Talland Bay (9 miles by car) and dog friendly Lantic Bay (10 miles by car).

Newquay, Padstow and the Port Isaac (made famous by Doc Martin) are on the North Cornwall coast yet are only 40-45 minutes drive.

Travel:

Use of a car is essential.

Herodsfoot is situated just over 4 miles from Liskeard Railway Station (with direct rail links to London, Birmingham and the North); 30 miles from Newquay Cornwall International Airport; and 67 miles from Exeter International Airport.

Further Details:

There are a range of restaurants within easy reach of the cottage. Lunch or dinner at the Plough Inn at Duloe will be one of the highlights of your holiday. This is a traditional Cornish pub that just happens to have an award-winning chef overseeing a delicious menu that will get your taste buds tingling. We recommend fish night on Thursdays with fresh catches of the day from Looe on the menu. Just a ten minutes drive through the lanes from the cottage. Also close by are the pubs and restaurants of Looe, The Jubilee Inn for Sunday lunch at Pelynt (6 miles) and Trewithen restaurant in Lostwithiel (10 miles).

The world famous Eden project, home to over 2 million plants, is just 18 miles away in St Austell.
