About the property

Sleeping up to 48 guests - plenty enough for a good party!

Nestled down a quiet lane in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside is Gunthorpe Hall. A Victorian/Georgian Hall, in part designed by Sir John Soane, sympathetically restored as a private home providing comfort and quirky surroundings whilst retaining the original charm of the property.

Gunthorpe Hall comprises 12 bedrooms sleeping up to 37 guests family style. There are an additional 4 bedrooms available (sleeping up to 11 people) in Wing House if additional accommodation is required - please enquire for more details.

If both properties are hired, up to 48 guests can be accommodated, where both friends and family can enjoy quality weekends together under one roof. We encourage guests to bring dressing gowns and slippers, to really get into the feel of using the Hall as your 'home from home' for your weekend.

We welcome groups to celebrate birthdays, family re-unions, corporate and team building events, spiritualist retreats, weddings or friends just looking to spend quality time together.

Our large dining room can seat up to 68 for a formal celebratory dinner, or more buffet style.

Our grade II listed home has plenty of space for guests to spread out in. Relax by the open fire in our welcoming Sitting Room, tinkle on the ivories on the grand piano in the Oak Hall, unwind with a glass of wine on the Parterre, dance the night away in the Oak Hall, get active with a game of croquet, badminton or cricket in the garden, or let the big kids loose in the Billiard Room. Gunthorpe Hall is the perfect country getaway at any time of year.

The grounds offer a unique opportunity for you to host on-site games such as clay pigeon shooting, archery and treasure hunts. The beautiful landscaped gardens are a fantastic setting for drinks, picnics or a BBQ during your stay. There is also a quiet, tranquil fishing lake that you are welcome to fish during your stay – please bring your fishing gear with you.

Our large Victorian walled vegetable garden, along with our own flock of sheep, chickens and ducks, inspire the delicious meals prepared by the Gunthorpe Team. We can fully cater for your stay, provide a special dinner for you and your guests to relax and be waited on, or you can entirely self-cater.

We are ideally located to access and explore the fantastic beaches (Wells, Holkham, Sheringham etc..), quaint marketing towns and endless attractions of North Norfolk. There is always something to do in North Norfolk. The Crawfish pub serving Thai food and local ale is only a mile away, and a larger gastro pub The Kings Head is 5 miles away that can accommodate larger groups for meals.

Other things to do locally include Hot Air Ballooning, Bird Watching, Sailing, Seal Trips, Cycling, Fishing, Amazona Zoo, Swimming, Wroxham Barns, Pensthorpe Natural Park, Dinosaur Adventure, Horse Racing, Bewilderwood, Golf, Horse Riding, Steam Trains, Tank Driving, Davenport's Magic Kingdom, Hilltop Outdoor Centre, Blickling, Felbrigg and Holkham Hall and there is of course lots of shopping!

The Thursford Christmas Spectacular is only 5 minutes away and an absolute must see. During winter months, we are able to offer a couple of rooms on a Bed & Breakfast basis for those attending the Christmas show.

Weekend hire price varies between £3600 up to £6500 depending on type of group and season. Please contact us to obtain a bespoke quote for your stay. Bookings are secured by a 30% deposit and booking form, and the balance of rental is due 1 month in advance. Fuel is metered and charged as used on departure.

All logs and coal used during winter are provided within the rental price.

Glorious Gunthorpe

  • 5 of 5

Gunthorpe Hall is a truly magical place for any event. The venue itself is quirky, eccentric, fascinating, delightful and just utterly fabulous in every aspect. It cannot fail to make you smile at every discovery. As you approach Gunthorpe Hall you will be in awe of its grandeur and as you enter the hall you will be excited by the joyful decor. The main entrance hall is the perfect space for pre-dinner drinks and just off here is a wonderful billiard room, a magnificent sitting room with fabulous interior artefacts and the main dining room which you can transport to whatever theme you like for your event. The kitchen is like something out of Downton Abbey, where you can prepare your own food or use the wonderfully talented Toni, Jamie and their team. The bedrooms are all different and fabulous with more than adequate bathrooms to satisfy large groups.

Our event was a Burns weekend where we celebrated the works of Rabbie Burns in true Scottish style. We chose to book Toni, Jamie and the team for the Saturday night and the food was beyond our expectations. They incorporated the Scottish theme and created an unbelievable menu of food that way surpasses most restaurant food. Everyone commented on the quality, flavour, presentation and impeccable service.

The whole experience at Gunthrope Hall was amazing. From all the pre-planning with Toni, who is simply the calmest, most delightful person you could ever entrust your event with, to the quality and deliciousness of food from Jamie to the wonder of the venue itself, this place really is somewhere special and because of this, it will make your event truly special too. It did mine and everyone is still talking about this magnificent, magical venue tucked in the glorious Norfolk countryside.

I can’t wait to have another event to organise, so that I can return with all my friends and family for another joyous occasion.

Thanks to Toni and the everyone for providing an amazing weekend. The whole group had a fantastic time, and I think there is a good chance some of them will enquire about a weekend at some point for their own events! Thanks for being great hosts and very welcoming. Also have to say again that the dinner you provided was absolutely superb – top restaurant quality!
