About the property

Villa in Busot, Costa Blanca North, Spain - Peaceful Spanish Mountain Village But Only 10 Minutes Drive To The 7 Kms Muchavista Beach

Casa Naranja is an officially Registered Tourist Property in the Alicante region, number VT444780-A. The villa is part of a small urbanisation on the edge of the old and charming village of Busot. Naranja or orange comes from all the orange details that the house has acquired from the awning to the cushions, a bit of a theme!

My rental rates are held for 2018 while Spanish hotel prices rise with the huge popularity of holidays in Spain. Casa Naranja continues to improve, new beds this year and with additional terrace space, we now have a small flower garden which has survived the summer heat!

My representative in Busot is Sally who lives and works in the village and is a fountain of local knowledge. Sally will welcome you, introduce you to the house and be nearby for any questions that you have during your stay. Sally can organise the loan (small charge) of cots with suitable bedding or high chairs if you have very small children or babies. Sally can even shop for food for you if you are arriving late although we also provide a small Welcome Pack of bread, milk etc for that first breakfast! She is also the local hairdresser, 'The Salon' is just up the road.

The nearest small shop and several bars are 400m away with the old village being about a kilometre away and wonderful beaches, just 10 minutes drive by car. Hiring or bringing a car is highly recommended for complete freedom to explore this scenic area and essential if you want to shop in the nearest supermarkets, also 10 minutes drive away. Car parking is always available and detailed driving directions are provided, we haven't lost anybody yet!

Please look at all my photos on here to get a good idea of this lovely house and this beautiful and surprising part of Spain. More information can be found online. The house living space totals 94 square metres. A beautiful and well maintained community Pool and Jacuzzi is located just behind the house. Enjoy the mountain views from the large terrace while dining outside! A solarium at first floor level with even better views and sun-loungers is accessible from the master bedroom and the upper hall. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a desk computer with web cam and Wi-Fi coverage throughout. All rooms are fitted with high quality Panasonic Air Conditioning providing heating or cooling as required by the season. This is my lovely second home, my base is in Portsmouth, UK, so it is unlikely that we will meet although I will be very pleased to answer all questions via email or chat to you via Skype video call at an agreed time. I have owned the house for over six years and welcomed many personal guests, we have enjoyed some great times. Now the house has to earn its keep as we say. This has been a new venture for me to be a host, it has been joyful to receive so many five star reviews from rental guests over the last three years.

With high running costs in Spain, the lower Winter rates expected are not viable for short stays and so a minimum stay of 14 nights applies for some of this winter 2017/18. The Christmas/New Year period is still available when the minimum stay is 7 nights.

About Richard Starkey

Hi my name is Richard Starkey, based in the historic maritime city of Portsmouth, UK. I am also lucky enough to own Casa Naranja in Busot. Spain and want to invite you to share all the happy times we enjoy in this bright, modern house overlooking the mountains of Alicante province. Casa Naranja is of course available for you to rent only when I am not there, so sadly we are unlikely to meet. However I will gladly answer any questions by email before and during your stay and will also be very pleased to chat via Skype at an agreed time. I greatly enjoy travel, photography, local food and meeting new people. To welcome you to the house and help you with any questions during your holiday, I have found Sally who lives in the village and is a fountain of local knowledge!

Richard Starkey purchased this villa in 2011

Why Richard Starkey chose Busot

I dreamed for many years of owning a holiday home in Spain. I finally became able to start looking in October 2010 and met with estate agents to look at a list of over 30 possible properties, this was actually the first one that we saw, other villas and especially locations compared poorly as we worked through the list. A Norwegian family and I were unsure whether to buy this villa, in the end they bought the adjoining villa and have been excellent neighbours ever since! I have enjoyed many long visits with lots of friends to my second home of Casa Naranja but owning a property here carries many ongoing costs from maintaining the community pool to local and national taxes, hence my new venture to share the house with new visitors who will hopefully love it as much as I do :-)

What makes this villa unique

It is the magnificent view by day or night from the mountains right down to the sea at Alicante which strikes all my visitors, perhaps combined with a light and airy house that hopefully feels really welcoming. Soon visitors discover the attractive well maintained pool and then venture over to the nearby newer area of Busot village called El Carril with the sports centre, bars and other shops. Later they may climb up to the old village with a bigger choice of bars and restaurants as well as an information centre offering an improving range of local activities in the surrounding Sierra d'Alicante mountains. My visitors will find that the nearest larger town is El Campello, just 10 minutes drive away with a great waterfront area, wonderful beaches and a range of supermarkets and specialised shops. Try a delicious meal in the La Cova restaurant perched high above the marina with views out to sea or stroll through the archaeological site for thousands of years of history dating back to the original Iberian's. Back in Busot, take the road up the Golden Head mountain to admire the even more breathtaking views than from the villa and to visit the cave complex named after one of the formations that looks like a Candelabra! If you have a day, continue to drive inland, high over the spectacular mountain passes, reaching the amazing village of Guadalest and then descending back to the coast at Benidorm, You can also reach Benidorm, the artists town of Villajoyosa or the fine city of Alicante by easily parking for free in Campello and taking the frequent and comfortable coastal TRAM service. You might attend a grand festival, local fiesta or one of the many Moors and Christians events - highly recommended but beware of explosions during the battle re-enactments. Some of the best are in Mutxamel (another nearby town in September); in Campello in October and of course the superb Busot Moors and Christians a week after Easter every year. You will never be bored here!!

A very comfortable and homely property

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely family holiday in Casa Naranja! The house and facilities are excellent and provided something to suit us all as we had a young child and older adults in our family party The pool area is well maintained and a pleasure to spend time in and although it is a shared facility it never got overcrowded.

The local town and people are friendly and very helpful. We hired a car which gave us the opportunity to explore this interesting area and surrounding towns, we felt this was a must as there is a lot to do and see. Driving around was easy and a necessity for food shopping and visiting the lovely local beaches.

We would all definitely highly recommend Casa Naranja and intend to return ourselves!

Owner's Response: I very much appreciate when my guests are able to write a review of their enjoyable stay, especially when it is posted so soon after their return home. All travellers find genuine reviews helpful. It is great to hear of another family feeling very much at home. Indeed I hope the house is suitable for all ages, I am not so young myself but thought has also gone into making the house child friendly as well :-) Improvements continue, an additional terrace has been built and the main beds upgraded for this summer. I have always said that bringing or hiring a car is highly recommended, in theory taxis could be used but this would be inconvenient and expensive. Feedback from this most recent guest, for which I am grateful, suggested this requirement to have a car was highlighted early in the property description, I am pleased to have amended the wording as suggested.

Peaceful and would book again

  • 5 of 5

The Villa was well equipped, clean and comfortable. The weather was quite chilly for our stay but the plug in radiators helped in the lounge and we didn't need them upstairs as the bedding was warm enough. The pool looked great and was easy to access but being April was just too cold to get in fully so we would love to return in July/August to get the most out of this. All in all a great place to stay and location is fab.

Modern well equipped house in peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely week at Casa .Naranja (3adults). Richard the owner is very organised and communication was easy with any queries we had. The house is very clean, modern and well equipped. It was lovely to receive a few essential groceries when we arrived. It may be my mistake but I cannot remember reading there was a welcome pack but it would have been useful to know as we arrived late in the evening and made a special visit to the supermarket before arriving which could have waited until the next morning .

It was great to have a double bedroom upstairs and down stairs and our own bathroom giving extra privacy for our adult son. There was plenty of room for 3 of us but I feel that if 6 people stayed the seating downstairs would have been a bit tight. Probably not really a problem if you visit in the summer when you spend most of the time outside (plenty of outdoor space and seating) but it was unseasonably cool this March and we needed the heating on and stayed in during the evening. Busot is a lovely traditional Spanish town. We visited Restaraunt La Casa in the square near the boutique hotel for lunch and it was lovely for €12.50. In El Campello the Italian restaraunt L' Antigua was wonderful. Really friendly staff , good food and reasonable price. Sweet calzone filled with mascaporne and topped with melted chocolate, white and milk chocolate chunks and Bueno . Devine. We visit Costa Blanca to walk in the countryside and there are so many opportunities to explore . The nearby mountain Cabeco d'or 1207m is a great day out and the caves worth a visit. Lots of supermarkets in El Campello, we favoured Aldi. The house is ideally placed for the airport. Only took 30mins after we picked up our hire car and 10mins from a lovely beach. Would love to return when the weathers a bit warmer.

Owner's Response: As the owner, I always appreciate all the feedback and suggestions that I receive from my guests. The provision of a small Welcome Pack of groceries for a first breakfast etc is mentioned in the property description but I will highlight this to future guests. Many guests arrive after the supermarkets are shut so the Pack is appreciated. The maximum capacity of Casa Naranja is six, often including small children. It is true that six adults wouldn't fit on to the sofa and the two armchairs but there is a computer chair and the dining chairs available indoors so no one need stand if watching the TV on a cooler spring evening :-) This review included some great local restaurants, all guests receive online access to the Casa Naranja villa handbook which includes many more restaurant, shopping and excursion suggestions.

Lovely , well equipped villa in quiet location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a pleasant, relaxing week in this Casa Naranja. The location, just below the pretty village of Busot, was peaceful with views to the sea and mountains from the upstairs sun terrace. Richard, the owner, has made it a home from home, with quality furniture and fittings and it is very well equipped. Communication from Richard was excellent throughout including detailed driving directions. Sally, who looks after the villa for Richard, was also helpful and easily contactable if required. Would recommend the villa to anyone who wants to be in a quiet location but still be close to the beaches of Costa Blanca.

Great holiday definitely recommend booking this lovely villa

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four and were looking for a 3 bedroom villa in a relaxing location with the option to visit the beach and restaurants. Villa Casa Naranja is a lovely modern villa that provided all the facilities to make it a comfortable stay. The pool area is well maintained and very inviting. We often had the pool to ourselves and on the occasions that other families used the pool, it was still relaxing as everyone was so considerate and friendly. Busot town is lovely, the entire area is in appealing, the views of the surrounding mountains is stunning. We visited El Campello often, it has a lovely beach and many restaurants to choose from. The children loved the Ice Cream Café opposite Lidl. A favourite for us was the Asia Li restaurant. The Waterfalls are worth a visit it costs us about 20 euros. I hired a bike for a week, having done so on several previous holidays in different countries and cycled some of the most memorable rides through the mountains that I have experienced. From the moment we booked the villa, Richard provided lots of useful information and promptly responded to emails. It was a pleasure to stay in your villa Richard and we would definitely book it again and fully recommend it to others to book. Great holiday, we were sad to leave.

This area of Spain has a huge number of beaches (with top quality fine sand), the nearest being the 5 mile long Muchavista beach (great also for walking throughout the year), the town beaches of El Campello, all around 10 minutes drive away. Just a little further, about 25 minutes by car or by the TRAM from Campello is the popular Postuget beach in Alicante or in the other direction, the beaches at the gorgeous town of Villajoyosa in about 40 minutes by car or by tram.

Alicante airport is 25 to 30 minutes drive away. The most convenient way to get here and around is with a car. If is possible to get to Busot from the airport by public transport, then/or taxi and there are food shops and eating places in the village but having a car is highly recommended. If you drive 10 minutes to the coast, you can park for free at the station and travel cheaply and quickly on the Alicante TRAM service into the city or to other places on the line.

Busot old village on foot - 1km

Busot El Carril (a few restaurants & bars, not Vegas or Benidorm!) on foot - 500m

Busot Canalobre caves & mountain trails (& a great view) by car - 15 minutes

Alicante by car to the TRAM station and then Tram - 30 minutes

Villajoyosa by car - 40 minutes

Benidorm by car - 50 minutes

Spectacular tour of the mountains, castles, wine estates in various directions by car - all day.

Further Details:

Our little village of Busot, population around 3,500 (although you don't see many people around unless there is a parade or a fiesta!) is a great centre for touring this surprisingly varied and beautiful region by car, by mountain bicycle or on foot. On the slopes of the Cabezón de Oro (Golden Head) with great views of the Alicante area from the mountains right down to the sea. Busot is a typical village of this region with good facilities, a few restaurants from budget to grander and 11 bars!! There are a lot more touring ideas from me and others by viewing the Villa website at or by searching online.
