A Cumbrian sandstone barn conversion, ideally situated on a working beef and sheep farm on the fringes of the Lake District National Park. Its tranquil rural location provides a relaxing getaway while being centrally based for exploring the Lake District, the Solway Coast, Hadrian's Wall and the border with Scotland. We offer spectacular views over the Cumbrian countryside towards Skiddaw and the Lakeland Fells while the immediate surroundings provide the opportunity to meander along the course of the Little Waver river discovering a host of wildlife including badgers,deer and foxes or enjoy the rich variety of birds and wild flowers. After a day spent exploring in the Cumbrian countryside return to our cottage to enjoy the warmth of the wood burning stove, our home grown vegetables straight from the field and spacious well equipped accommodation. The Stackyard holiday cottages are ideal for busy families and couples alike. Our outdoor areas and farm location make the cottages relaxing and fun to be around.

A Galleried entrance leads to an open plan living area with a modern well equipped kitchen, spacious dining area and comfortable lounge. On the ground floor are two bedrooms one spacious double and one full size bunk bedroom plus the bathroom with a double ended spa bath and separate shower cubicle. The provision of a travel cot and high chair allows for the additional accommodation of a small child.

About the Owner

My husband and I and our young son live on the family farm with our two sheepdogs Ben and Jess, our three cats; Tabby, Tom and Harry, a flock of 300 sheep and their lambs and 150 beef cattle. We grow vegetables which we sell directly from the farm and look forward to welcoming guests to our three 200 year old barn conversion holiday cottages.

Amazing Stay

The cottage was secluded and cosy. It was so nice and warm and the conversion is so modern and amazing.

We were able to drive to all the places we wanted to go to.

The owners were very lovely but also let us just get on with it.

The Solway coast with its varied history is 20 minutes drive from the cottages


Wigton is the nearest town with a selection of supermarkets and high street butchers, bakers, fishmongers and grocers along with dress and gift shops and gallery. The ancient market town still has an auction mart and weekly market stalls

  • Notes on accommodation: The property is centrally heated by an environmentally friendly biomass boiler system and each property has a wood burning stove with firewood provided. A shared bootroom contains a tumble dryer, freezer and bike store. All properties have free WiFi internet access. Outside: Guests are able to enjoy the outdoor areas with their own patio areas including outdoor furniture as well as a shared seating area with built in BBQ . The play area provides entertainment for the young (and the not so young) with football nets a 15ft trampoline and an activity centre with swings and a slide. A variety of ride on tractors and toys are provided with the opportunity to walk and explore directly from your doorstep.
