About the Owner

I have lived in France for more than 10 years and love the french life-style, but from our home we travel to Spain often, for the smiles of the Spanish people and reasonable price for food. I belong to the drama group so I am always having fun. Breton dancing well, I have a go! practice makes perfect. In fact if there is a chance to do something mad I will be there.

wonderful, well situated, well equipped, private

This villa was just what we needed after a very busy year. We needed somewhere to just wind down and relax but also somewhere to go and see the sights. This was it. It has private gardens and terraces, the pool was perfect for cooling off and the hot tub an extra treat. The villa is well equipped and very comfortable and Paddy, the manager is really helpful with lots of information on places to shop, eat and visit. We can not rate this place highly enough.

Fabulous villa in stunning location near Granada.

The villa is situated in a quiet commune, set amongst olive groves, with amazing views of the mountains. There is a terrace for every occasion, with a variety of tables and sun loungers. The house is well equipped and has air conditioning upstairs and in 2 bedrooms. The supermarket is close by in Pinos Puente and there was a lovely restaurant by the roundabout called Montserrat i think. Within a half hour drive was the under publicised Alcala la Real, with a magnificent hill-top fortress. We lunched after in Alcala itself in the central square and enjoyed a lovely feast which included free tapas. Granada is less than an hour away and is well sign posted. We also visited Ronda and Seville, which are about 2 hrs and 3 hrs away respectively.

On quieter days by the pool (which is fantastic), there is often a refreshing breeze. Overall we had a great time and would happily go again. For us the only tiny downside was that we are both over 6ft and the bed was only a double. However, it wouldn't stop us visiting again!

The villa met all our expectations and more for a perfect christmas. Skiing, History and the Hot tub amazing. The property was very clean and very well-maintained. The manager of the property was close by and was really helpful, giving us great advice on where to visit and where to shop for food and where to eat out. Would certainly recommend this property to a friend or relative. The views from the villa are just fab and we will return in the summer. Thank you for sharing.

Further Details:

The Andalucia region

A visit to the Alhambra will take a day to see properly, but you will not be disappointed. The memories of looking through the picture windows of the palace windows that capture the spectacular views of Granada, the outstanding architecture of the Moors and the carefully laid out gardens with water features will fill you with awe and beckon you to go back.

A 1hr and 20 minute drive north west of the villa lies Cordoba. During Roman times it had more cultural buildings than Rome and the remains can be around the city. In 711 it was conquered by the Moors and their influence is still evident in the City. None more so than the famous Mezquita mosque. After the Christian conquest in 1236 a cathedral was built in the middle of the complex because they found the structure to beautiful to tear down and now there is two sacred sites in one.

The Alcazar and its beautiful gardens with water features is also worth a visit. A Stroll through the cobbled streets with its many restaurants shops and bars can be difficult as you are spoiled for choice as to where to eat or drink. You may find yourself going back for more.

Puerto Lope

There are three picturesque towns nearby. Moclin is a picturesque whitewashed village, a seven minute drive away from the villa. It has am impressive 14th century Moorish castle which is lit up at night and can be seen very clearly from the road on the way back from Alcala La Real. Of great interest in close proximity to the village are many traces of prehistoric man in the form of cave paintings and noelithic stone formations. There are breathtaking views towards the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Montefrio is approx 12kms east of Montesol. It's worth stopping to savour its splendour as you approach it from Montesol. The village enjoys one of the regions most striking settings, with two of its churches built on the top of two hilltops of bare rock surrounded by a whitewashed town. Park on the outskirts and stroll through the cobbled streets into the heart of the town.

Alcala La Real is a 15minute drive away. In the centre of the town there is a wide pedestrianised boulevard which is the focal point of the town. This is where the locals meet during their evening 'paseos'. There are many shops, bars, restaurants

Skiing is popular between the end of November and beginnining of April with the Sierra Nevada ski slopes only 50minute drive from the villa. It's possible to ski in the morning and sunbathe on one of the beaches of the |Costa Tropical in the afternoon. If there are young members in your party there are two creches available in the resort of Pradollano.

Granada, once the capital of Moorish civilisation, renowned for its flamenco traditions and for the elegant Alhambra, stages spectacular Holy Week festivities every year. The spectacle of the solemn Semana Santa processions, marked by mesmerising drum beats and punctuated by saetas (traditional devotional songs), provides a constant reminder of the Christian, Pagan and Middle Eastern heritage that makes up this unique land.

Processions take place throughout the city from Palm Sunday right through to Holy Saturday, the highlight, without a doubt, being Maundy Thursday with the Procession of Silence. A large part of the Granada attends the procession, which departs from the Church of San Pedro on the Carrera del Darrosees

Many come to witness the images of the pasos (litters) of Christ and the Virgin, bedecked with scores of jewels and semi-precious stones. These litters occasionally draw to a halt to re-enact the Stations of the Cross. There is no pageant as such and references to the passion are marked by saetas. These scenes often whip up such a frenzy of emotion that many onlookers are brought to tears.

Unique to Holy Week in Spain is the Wednesday procession, renowned for the paso "Christ of the Gypsies" or "Christ of Sacromonte" - Sacromonte is an area of Granada famous for its Gypsy cave dwellings. Last but not least is the Procession of Las Angustias on Saturday of Holy Week.

In short, a visit to the city during Holy Week allows you a glim
