About the property

A spacious, unique and quirky house with off road parking

Cambrian House is a fabulous detached Victorian house situated within the southern coastal town of Gosport, Hampshire. This 4 bedroom house has been restored, refurbished and furnished to a good 4* star standard and is situated within a 5 minute drive of the beach and town centre where the ferry can take you for a short 4 minute ride to Portsmouth and the wonderful Gunwharf Quays, a superb waterfront complex with over 90 designer retail outlets, 30 odd cafés, restaurants, bistros and bars, Cinema, Bowling Alley, Casino, Jongleurs Comedy and Tiger Tiger nightclub plus the iconic Spinnaker Tower all set around the harbour quayside.

Each of the 4 lovely bedrooms have superior quality kingsize double beds which can separate to create 2 singles and are made up with crisp white cotton linen and fresh white towels for all guests. 2 of the bedrooms are 'family' rooms being able to sleep 3, 4 or 5 guests sleeping up to 12 in the bedrooms if required, plus some of the bedrooms can also accommodate children's cots on request.

The 2 high spec bathrooms both have quality fitted showers and the main bathroom is also fitted with a large roll top bath with all towelling provided.

The kitchen is fully equipped for self catering with a large vintage style Smeg fridge freezer and an original centre isle butchers block chopping table and is situated adjacent to the dining room which is home to a large 12 seater dining table. The lounge also seats up to 12 with a large flat screen TV, DVD and Nintendo Wii.

Off the kitchen is a comfortable sized breakfast room leading out into an impressive large conservatory with another table and 6 chairs, 2 x 2 seater leather sofas plus a 5ft pool/snooker/table tennis table to keep young and old alike amused, away from the separate front lounge.

Finally there are the gardens, the front laid with pea shingle and border shrubs and the rear being accessed from gated driveways either side and the French doors from the conservatory with tables, chairs, a lawned area, the facility to hire in a hot tub, (please contact us for availability and costings), trampoline etc.

Our prices are for up to 10 people but we can accommodate a 2 more people within the bedrooms on John Lewis bed chairs plus the lounge also has a John Lewis corner sofa bed with the additional guests over 10 being charged at a rate of £25 per week/part week per head or £25 for each extra set provided.

* Please note the following before booking :-

Cambrian House only accepts 'family groups' consisting of both adults and children during the school Summer Holidays and over New Year Period. However if you are an all adult group during the school Summer Holidays we can recommend one of our other properties - Peel House, which does not have the same restriction, (ID: 8132591).

If you would like to bring along a pet for your stay this is possible at no extra rental charge but is subject to a £250 pets deposit payable 6 weeks prior to arrival

Guestbook comments from the manager

“Apart from being self service Cambrian House was as good as The Ritz" The house is a lovely property with unusual and interesting design points, very clean with beautifully comfortable beds and it was great our little dog was welcome too. We enjoyed the area and the trips over the ferry into Portsmouth and Gunwharf Quays and there appears to be plenty of entertainment locally. Your staff have been extremely helpful from the booking onwards and we would definitely book again with the company. Thank you (The Newel Family, October 2014) - as registered on Trip Advisor

To either side of the house are gated driveways allowing plenty of off road parking. A Birthday Treat

  • 4 of 5

We were celebrating a 70th birthday and we enjoyed our stay. The drive entrance was very narrow, and any improvement to that would be very welcome. The garden was large and ideal for the children to play in, the trampoline a great idea, though the flower beds needed maintenance. The house was comfortable, the conservatory a very nice addition and we ate in there more than the dining room. The quirky arrangement of the bathrooms didn't matter for a short stay. The beds are comfortable and every where was clean and attractive, if a little tired. The wii and the cd/hi fi were not working, but we left a note to inform Ken and presume that has been rectified. Overall a lovely house, which we enjoyed staying in, but a wider drive was needed before I would recommend Cambrian House to friends.

Brilliant house and garden for groups

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the house. The staff could not have been more helpful; we booked a hot tub and they took care of liaising with the hot tub company, we were running late and they popped round to take delivery of our online food shop.

The house itself is great for groups, can we set up as single beds or double beds. Garden is lovely and lots of chairs and space, big dining table and also a big conservatory which we used most. Plenty of room for parking lots of cars. Kitchen is a little small but we cooked for 12 so it does the job. Would definitely recommend for big families, friends get together and nice hen and stags

'Cambrian House' is a 5 minute drive to Gosport town centre and Portsmouth Harbour plus Stokes Bay Beach looking out over The Solent with views over to the Isle of Wight or you are a short drive to Lee on Solent and Hillhead beaches where you are likely to find the windsurfers, kite surfers and jet skiers. With 24 miles of waterfront and fantastic viewing points you don’t have to wander far to find the sea or you can hop on a ferry for the 4 minute ride to Portsmouth or the Isle Of Wight beyond.

The nearest airports are Southampton, approximately 30km away, or Bournemouth, around 80km, and Gatwick and Heathrow are the nearest London airports. You can train into Portsmouth Harbour and hop straight on the 4 minute ferry to Gosport where we are situated approximately 1km away from the terminal or alternatively into Fareham which is 7.5km from the house.

The house is situated close to historic Portsmouth Harbour with its naval connections going back to Henry VIII, whose flagship the Mary Rose sank just outside Portsmouth Harbour in 1545 but was raised in the early 80's and is now being restored in the dockyard which is also home to Nelson's famous flagship HMS Victory 1765 and the first iron hulled warship HMS Warrior 1860. Hampshire is not just all about coastline and is proud to be one of Britains most unspoilt counties, home to the New Forest National Park plus part of the glorious chalk based hills of the South Downs. The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and Hampshires other maritime city of Southampton are within the Hampshire boundary and Winchester was the 9th Century Saxon Capital of King Alfred's Kingdom, which are all within easy distance of the house.
