About the property

Double room in Saint-Avit, a pretty French hamlet, just 3km from Chalais and 15 minutes from Aubeterre's restaurants/bars

Our property is a 200 year old Charentais style dwelling with beautiful views over countryside. It is situated in a small French hamlet, opposite an 11th century Roman church. It is an ideal quiet and relaxing retreat for couples. Guests can relax on site or take advantage of the many walks and cycling routes. (Free bikes are subject to availability)

We are situated close to the Cognac and Bordeaux wine regions and there are many chateau and distillery visits available. This area is famous for Pineau, a local drink most often served chilled as an aperitif.

Local food specialities include duck and Charentais beef, with seasonal delights which include deliciously sweet Charentais melons and a large variety of mushrooms.

We are just a short distance from canoeing and kayaking centres and the popular tourist town of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with its many restaurants/bars and famous for its monolithic Church carved out of the rock and one of just two of this type surviving in France - a must to see!

Les Hirondelles is run by Clive, from the South of England, and Margaret, originally from Ireland. We moved to France a couple of years ago from England and enjoy meeting people and introducing guests to our property. A recent addition in 2015 was our new double bedroom self catering gîte (also listed on Owners Direct).

Notes:
Linen/towels are included and the rooms are tidied daily. There is a quiet refrigerator in the room and an ironing board and trouser press. Safety is of utmost importance and we have the appropriate alarms, fire extinguisher, first aid and emergency exit procedures in place. Outside: Enjoy the view from our sun terrace, especially summer evenings with beautiful sunsets. There is comfortable seating and sun lounger on the terrace. It is south facing a sun trap, an electric awning provides some shade when needed.
