Our holiday home is a large four-bedroom typical Breton stone house which comfortably sleeps 10. The house is in a superb location for the charming town of Pont-Aven. Pont-Aven is a lively town with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and art galleries. There are lovely walks by the river and also in the Bois D'Amour (wood of love) and its surrounding area. There are numerous fantastic beaches within a 15 - 20 minute drive. Each room has wooden ceilings and the ground floor is tiled throughout. The ground floor is open plan with a modern fully-fitted kitchen, small table and chairs and spacious lounge with open log fire. There is a sun room off the lounge with a large oak table, chairs and bench seating. The rooms have been decorated in blues and yellow to give it a typical Breton ambience. There is a CD player, books and games provided for your entertainment indoors. Entrance to the house is via steps at the back. There is an entrance porch and off this a utility room with washing machine, tumble drier, toilet and handbasin. Each room has thermostatically controlled electric heaters and there is a lovely open fire in the lounge. The thick walls of the house ensure that heat is retained in winter and the house remains cool in the summer. The first floor has two large bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and one with a double and single, a bathroom and separate toilet. The second floor has two large bedrooms, fitted as before and a shower room. The stairs to each floor are wooden and slightly curved. Linen and towels can be hired from our local agent at an extra cost.
We are a family from Northern Ireland who have been holidaying in France for the past 20 years. We feel privileged to have a holiday home in the lovely town of Pont-Aven and are happy to share the experience with our guests.
Julie Currie purchased this house in 2002
We fell in love with Pont-Aven when we arrived in it by accident in 1999. We could not believe our luck when we came across this property when we were house-hunting in Brittany. We have made a lot of improvements over the years and now feel we have a lovely holiday home. Pont-Aven has a fantastic atmosphere with the art school and connection to the famous artists, especially Gaugin. The town is so lively, however, our location keeps us out of the busyness of the town but allows us to get access to the shops and restaurants within a five minute walk. The local area is very lively with numerous food and music festivals throughout the summer.
We love being so close to the all the attractions Pont-Aven has to offer. However, if you go out our back gate, we are in the country and there are lovely walks. We also the love the easy access to the numerous beaches on the Brittany coastline. They are just stunning and offer everything from small, sheltered inlets, to crazy surfing beaches.
We had a really enjoyable stay in this house in Pont-Aven.
Comfortable house with good facilities, ideally located for exploring the town and the port on foot.
Restaurants within walking distance, shops a short drive away.
We had a really super week staying in Pont-Aven, our first time in Brittany.
Pont-Aven itself is a beautiful little town with all the things that the kids could engage with - boulangerie within walking distance, crepe restaurant over the road, fish van in the town square each morning. Each day started with a walk to the bakers and ended with a stroll into town to one of the cafes.
One of the advantages you come to realise of the house is that it has parking, and that the outside area is on a quiet back street. We sat in the garden most evenings. The houses around seem to be holiday homes owned by French families.
When you enter the house (presuming it's during the day), you'll immediately think - mmm, a main road! The front is right next to one of the roads into Pont-Aven. Within a day, we'd stopped noticing - and the bedrooms upstairs feel much less affected, it certainly didn't wake us up in the mornings.
The bedrooms are charming and comfortable. Downstairs is more functional - one big space with kitchen and sitting room area - but everything we needed was in the house... it's the kind of place where you think "mmm I need a colander / corkscrew / measuring jug" and it's there and in the place you think it should be. Also hugely helpful to a young family to have a washing machine, tumble drier and area outside to hang things to dry.
So overall we'd really recommend. The only reason for not giving five stars is because of the main room being right next to the main road.
We had a wonderful 2 weeks here. There were 6 of us and we were all very comfortably accommodated. Everything we needed was here and when the heating went wrong it was very quickly sorted out. We were so comfortable at the house that we didn't go out for as many days as usual, preferring to just chill out at the house.
Pont Avon is a wonderful place to visit and an even better if you can stay there
Had a fantastic 2 weeks in Pont Aven staying in this very comfortable town house.. Ideal location as only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Best equipped house we have ever stayed in! Everything as described.
2 grandaughters, our three children and we oldies gathered in Brittany for a cousin's wedding at Manoir de Kerangosquer, just outside Pont-Aven. We certainly picked the right place to stay! Spacious and roomy with a sun room for family meals. Great facilities in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry, comforable beds, a lovely garden and an easy stroll into town, but don't go looking for a pizza to bring home on your first night- my son claims that Pont-Aven is only one takeaway short of perfection! After a drizzly first day, the sun shone all weekend.... and my son and I saw World Cup Rugby (a rare England victory) in the hospitable Tabac, where we were received with courtesy and humour. We enjoyed a couple of trips to the picturesque beach and sampled excellent cuisine at local restaurants. Julie was really helpful in the lead-up, answering emails and a phone call. Book this house if you can!
We rented this house for a week in late August 2015. The pictures and description are accurate. Julie, the owner, was a delight with which to work. She replied quickly with helpful information. The house was clean, all appliances in working order. The bed was comfortable, the shower had plenty of hot water. The location is excellent- about 5 minute walk to center of town, less to bakery for morning pastry. No need to take car to town. Many good restaurants in town. House is well located for car trips to sights of this part of Brittany. Easy drive to Quimper and the coastal area. Would recommend. A note of caution- the stairs to bedrooms and baths are narrow and steep. Care needed for small children. Would rent again.
