Lovely, well equipped house with great views.

  • 4 of 5

House was modern and very well equipped with great views. No shortage of anything. Wifi worked although slow. There is no real enclosed garden which means it is not the best for dogs. Wonderful views over the loch. Unfortunately the weather was dreadful and so bad we cut our trip short by 2 days.

This property goes above and beyond any reasonable expectations. All amenities; fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality.

Every detail has been taken care of. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Too beautiful for words!!

  • 5 of 5

Every detail was meticulously thought of. The view as you walk into the family room is breathtaking. The kitchen is well appointed with every kitchen gadget imaginable. Actually the kitchen is so well arranged we all want ours renovated at home!! The side patio is perfect for morning coffee or evening whiskey. Bedrooms were wonderfully quiet and sooo comfy. An oasis after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. Plenty of room for 9 adults to be together and spread out as needed!! Words can truly not express how fabulous this house and location are. It was wonderful to pretend it was ours for a few days!!

A wonderful week with the family at Lochalsh Lodge in April 2017

  • 5 of 5

Lochalsh Lodge was a beautiful, spacious, comfortable well furnished and equipped 'home from home' where we spent a wonderful week during the Easter holidays. We were Granny and Grandpa, Mum, Dad and three children (aged 12, 11 and 8), and uncle. The views from the house were enchanting, always changing as the day moved on and the weather changed. The kitchen was excellent and the bedrooms warm and comfortable. The owners had helpfully and thoughtfully provided almost every possible thing that guests might need or want during a stay.

We spent much of the time on the Isle of Skye, and greatly enjoyed visiting the Fairy Pools in Glen Brittle, and Dunvegan Castle, and driving round the coastal loop, by way of the Old Man of Storr and the Kilt Rock cliffs, from Portree to Uig, and - most spectacular of all - driving from Broadford to Elgol. The scenery was stunning - wonderful views of the Cuillins, distant islands and mountains, and the fascinating cliffs at Elgol, with their unusual rock formations.

On the mainland, we also very much enjoyed Glen Shiel, Plockton, Eilean Donan Castle and Dornie - especially the drive from the village up Carr Brae , at the top of which there were beautiful views of Eilean Donan, Lochalsh and Skye in the distance, from the high viewpoint.

The glass-bottomed boat trip from Kyleakin was great - excellent views of many seals, and plenty of crabs and other marine life to spot underwater (no otters or dolphins to be seen this time though.) We would have loved to go on one of the wildlife boat trips from Elgol, but unfortunately we didn't manage to fit it in this time - that will have to be for our next visit... The young ones also had fun at ACE, near Portree, with archery and axe-throwing (!)

Places we enjoyed eating were The Granary at Portree for an excellent dinner and the Caledonian Cafe, also in Portree, for a light lunch; also lunches at the Dornie Hotel and Cafe Sia in Broadford - which had very good pizzas and a tasty variety of vegan and vegetarian food.

For home-catering, the Co-op in Kyle of Lochalsh provided everything.

There were plenty of beautiful walks, long or short, challenging or easy, within reach, including the lovely National Trust for Scotland's woodland walk right behind the house, ideal for early morning or evening strolls. It was also lovely to stroll along the beach, just past the Balmacara Mains B&B.

We would all thoroughly recommend Lochalsh Lodge and would love to come again.

Great property in a fab location

  • 4 of 5

This property is in a lovely location (with a woodland walk behind), was extremely well equipped, clean and well maintained, and has a gorgeous picture window with views which change with the weather. There was plenty of space of the nine of us (although for the nine year old boy in our party there wasn't a garden to kick a football around). Having read previous reviews we knew there were otters in the neighbourhood and, having been on otter watch all week, during a final cup of tea before we were due to leave the otter did indeed make an appearance by swimming past the window! The house is in a fab location for exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye (which was our plan), although it should be noted that it is essential you have a car and you do spend a bit of time in the car, but the views from the car are well worth the driving. We had a really lovely week, although the weather could have been better!

A wonderful house with fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 had a great time in Lochalsh. The house is high spec yet homely with plenty of space and fully equipped. It was clean and well maintained. The views are spectacular and ever changing with the weather. The local area is lovely for various walks in woodland and by the loch. It is an ideal base for Skye - Kyle of Lochalsh and the bridge is 10 mins drive away or for mainland drives to Plockton, Applecross and Sheidaig. Could also reach here by train easily as only short taxi ride from Kyle. We had a query during our stay which was promptly sorted by the friendly owner by email.
