Chapel View Cottage - Original Miners Cottage on Northumberland farm

Updated: 27-Aug-2016
Original miners Cottages,on a stock working farm.

Kellah has been a small hamlet since 1402 and has been farmed by our family for over 150 years. We are a working hill farm, breeding beef cattle and Scottish Blackface sheep. Our two self-catering holiday cottages were previously miner’s smallholdings and still have many of the original features. The newly-converted, self-contained Bed & Breakfast unit was previously ‘The Pitman’s Arms’ public house, before its closure in the late 1800’s. In the early 20th Century it became miner’s cottages, then eventually agricultural out-buildings as the properties changed hands. In 2006 we began converting the buildings into one unit and opened for business in 2007.We have just installed in 2015 a Bio-mass boiler that provides heating and hot water for the whole farm.

From the Owner

Kellah has been farmed by our family since 1849 and is still a working Hill farm with sheep and cattle. Kellah is in a quiet and unspoilt area with beautiful views of the North Pennines with the " Pennine Way " passing nearby the farm. "Hadrian's Wall" is a must for everyone to visit. If you love historical sites, walking or spectacular views "Hadrian's wall " has them all. We are easily located, just 2/12 miles from the A69 near the "Centre of Britain" market town of Haltwhistle.

From the Owner

The self-catering cottages are situated around the farm yard so the daily workings of a hill farm can be observed. Lambing time is hectic but orphaned lambs always need feeding. For children we have a play area with swings and a slide. Both cottages accept dogs and have secure walled gardens. Parking is in the yard outside the cottages.
