Sleeps 8. 4 bedroom farmhouse with large enclosed garden in the heart of rural Dorset. Gould's Farmhouse is a beautiful period farmhouse dating back to 1600s with some original features. It has recently been completely renovated and is furnished as a second home with antiques but retaining the comforts of modern living. It has a large sitting room and separate dining room as well as a small office offering wireless internet access. There is a lovely south facing conservatory. Upstairs 1 bathroom and 2 shower rooms serve the 4 double bedrooms. The house is ideal for those with limited mobility, as it has a proper lift to the upstairs area, (by prior arrangement only). There is a large garden with plenty of room for the children to play. Also sun loungers and BBQ. There is a good children's playground 100 yards up the road. The house is within easy walking distance of the post office and village stores, providing basic provisions, and a pub. The pretty village location offers easy access to the world famous Jurassic Coast and is in the centre of Thomas Hardye country - the fictional town of Casterbridge (Dorchester) being 8 miles distant. The stunning coastline at Lulworth Cover and Durdle Door is just 14 miles away. About a 30 minute drive away is Weymouth Bay which boasts long and sandy beaches with traditional beach entertainments such as donkey rides and Punch and Judy. Within 20 minutes you can visit the acclaimed Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum. For the younger visitors Farmer Palmers is less than 30 minutes away.

About Nicola Pye

This house and the adjoining farm has been in my family for the past 70 years. Over the past couple of years it has been fully refurbished, including central heating! It is a lovely home which I still enjoy returning to on a regular basis.

Nicola Pye purchased this farmhouse in 1943

What makes this farmhouse unique

This stunning old farmhouse is spacious with 3 separate seating areas. The spacious house makes it ideal for several generations to holiday together, whilst the lift makes it idea for people who are unable to cope with stairs (this is by prior arrangement only). There is a large secure garden which young and old can enjoy.

The property it's garden and the surroundings where lovely. The 2 youngest members - 2 and half & 5 years old loved all the hiding places. It was close to monkeyworld and lots of other attractions.

Brilliant house for all the family

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the farmhouse and I thoroughly enjoyed it. With two children under 3 and the in-laws, we found that there was more than enough room - in fact my eldest loved to play hide and seek both inside and out! It is perfectly situated for short drives to all the typical tourist attractions and if we were to return to the area for another holiday I would certainly look to stay at the farmhouse again!

As advertised, a large suitably designed farmhouse in which we, a family of 8 enjoyed our stay

Having read the very positive August review of the author and his family's experiences, we can identify with the comments made. Likewise, we were a family of three generations, aged from the late 60s to a 9 nine year old. It was so very nice to find a home which accommodated all 8 of us comfortably. We enjoyed a home cooked Christmas lunch in a wonderful dining room. Everything needed to facilitate the preparation of the food, it's consumption etc. was provided for. Ease of access to the home on arrival and immediate contact if required, to the Owner, Nicola, via phone were greatly appreciated. Thank you Nicola for allowing us to use your home over the Christmas period which enabled us, as a family to enjoy our time together.

Lovely period Farmhouse, full of character.

The Farmhouse is full of character and original features. We are a family of 8 over 3 generations aged 10 months - 57 years, plus 2 small dogs and the property met all of our needs.

Nicola the owner made sure that we had everything we needed and was very approachable with regular contact before our visit.

The fact that all 3 bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms is a real bonus. The house was clean and fully equipped.

What really makes this property superb, is it's fantastic garden. My only regret was that the English weather was not kind during our stay so we were not able to enjoy it to the full. We will have to return again and pray for sunshine.

The pub and village shop are both within walking distance as is the small park. The pub serves great food at very reasonable prices and the staff there were very helpful.

The beaches along the Jurassic coast line are beautiful and within easy reach by car. Weymouth and Poole are also less than 30 mins drive away.

I would certainly recommend this property and we do plan to return ourselves.

Ideal village/countryside location with atmosphere

Three generations of our family, eldest 68,youngest 7, spent an extremely enjoyable week at this farmhouse. The House is very comfortable with an arresting,large, landscaped garden, in which we played hide and seek.

There is a large lounge and large dining room, both beautifully furnished, with impressive fireplaces. The substantial table in the dining room provided ample space for our party of seven to dine comfortably.

The large kitchen is well equipped including an Aga.

The bedrooms, three en-suite, had comfortable beds and all members of the party slept well. All bedrooms have views, the front bedrooms have views of rolling countryside and of the church on the hill.

The village has a small supermarket, a post office and a pub which serves food and where you may purchase second-hand books.

There is little traffic on the road outside and for me the house exuded an atmosphere of peace and calm, which I found very relaxing.

The location is perfectly placed for access to the coast and also other inland attractions.

The Property Manager has been helpful throughout.

Bovington Tank Museum and Monkey World are within 20 minutes drive.

There are lots of pretty Dorset pubs in the vicinity most of which do excellent food.

  • Notes on accommodation: With the flexibility of the lift, Gould's Farmhouse is an ideal house for a family holiday. Plenty of room for the children to play indoors and out but providing quieter areas for the older generation, allowing 3 generations to holiday together happily, and the dog can come too! Outside: The large garden, which is fully enclosed, has flower beds, shrubs and mature trees for shade. The extensive lawns provide plenty of space in which to play. There is a picnic table that seats 8. BBQ and sun loungers for 8. Off street parking for 4 cars. There is an additional children's play area in the recreation ground 200 yards away.
