Beach loungers and parasols are also provided so you can visit and relax on more remote beaches.

Good sea and mountain views with an extra first floor terrace accessible through patio doors from bedrooms 1 and 2.

We are on the edge of Arapkoy, a quiet, friendly village which is still unspoilt, with cooling sea breezes and a view down to the sea from the house. Carob Tree Villa is named after the carob trees that were grown in and around Arapkoy for centuries. A good example of a carob tree stands opposite the house and had been brought back to life by us and the other residents. A short drive away is Girne (Kyrenia), well worth exploring with its many restaurants and shops and cafes. The harbour side restaurants are in a superb setting and it would be hard to find better value anywhere in Europe. Supermarkets and small shops are on the way to Girne. From there you can take the bypass to Alsancak and the famous Deniz Kizi beach . Or further to sleepy Lefke and its nearby beaches. Drive east to Kantara castle, the Karpaz and Famagusta and its old town. Lefkosa (Nicosia) is worth a visit, guided tours are available. St Hilarian crusader castle is nearby. Nearer to home, the beach at Aligadi 2 (12 minutes by car) has a beach restaurant and you can use your house beach chairs and parasols to relax by the sandy, gently sloping beach

Travel:

Turkish and Pegasus are available into Lefkosia (Ercan airport)which is 30 minutes from the villa. The car hire will meet you at Ercan. Or the taxi will get you to the house to await your hire car. Or fly to Larnaca in the South with BA Agean, Easyjet, Monarch and Thomas Cook. A taxi can collect you from Larnaca

Distances:

Literally minutes to sleepy Arapkoy with small shop(s) for basics, a couple of cafe restaurants and the famous Klepini restaurant (but pick your night!) Then a car to Girne (Kyrenia) and both east and west along the coast road as described below.

Further Details:

Girne (Kyrenia) is your nearest town, about 20 minutes by car. But on the way are many shops, bars and restaurants and two good supermarkets. Fresh fish is available and very reasonable. Drive to nearby Bellapais with its famous abbey, restaurants and cafes and walk up to Irene' garden for lunch in the shade. Proprietor Deidre Guthrie knew author Lawrence Durrell, when he lived in Bellapais in the 1950s writing his famous book "Bitter Lemons". She can tell you how Cyprus was in those days over Kleftico that she cooks usually one day a week (booking required). Or drive to Catalkoy and walk up the Crusader Path (not too steep) with the Abbey set above you, until you reach Bellapais. The evening concerts in the Abbey are usually very good.

The new coast road east leads to the ruins of Kantara castle with its superb views across both sides of the island. Then further on to the Karpaz and the small town of Dipkarpaz, all well worth visiting, together with the Roman city of Salamis.

Famagusta, built up by the Venetians, is good to visit with its 13th Century cathedral (now a mosque) with its rose window and inspired by Reims cathedral. A superb coffee house/restaurant is nearby.

Girne (Kyrenia) with its castle, "old quarter" is a working town with much history, a castle with thriving harbour side restaurants. The Crusader castle of St Hilarion is not far. Further west the new bypass takes you to Alsancak and then Lapta which were independent city states in the Middle Ages and fascinating villages. Golden Bay Beach just before Deniz Kizi is great for all the family, with sloping sandy beach into the bay. Further along the coast road you will reach the pleasant town of Guzelyurt (literally "good earth") in the orange growing district then on to sleepy Lefke with its nearby beaches and the ancient city of Soli.

Booking Notes:
25% deposit on booking. Balance 8 weeks prior to departure. £300 bond per week refundable. 200 units of electricity per week should be enough if the Air Con is used sensibly. However leaving it on all day will run up a sizeable bill.
No smoking and no pets.

Changeover Day:
We try to be flexible and can usually accept bookings for odd numbers of days pro rata. You must vacate the villa by 10 am on the day of departure. Access is from 6 pm on the day of arrival.
