|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
This cosy cottage, which has been described as a "little Gem", is ideal as a romantic getaway cottage or an extra cottage to use when bringing parents or teenagers on holiday. The small entrance hall leads into the living area with a stone flagged floor covered with rugs. This room rises high into the pitch and has roof lights and windows catching the early morning sun. There is a Victorian open fire bounded by cupboards with a leather reclining couch opposite.
In a long recess there is the kitchen with twin sinks, a double electric hob and a combination microwave. There is a fridge with a three star freezer compartment. Hope Sike is fully centrally heated which adds to the comfort of the cottage.
The bedroom, with super king-size bed, leads into the en-suite bathroom which has a large double ended bath, sink and toilet. The bed can be split into twin and there is room for a cot/truckle bed.
Scotchcoulthard is situated on the edge of Kielder Forest north of Hadrian's wall at its most spectacular part. The farm is situated in 180 acres of farmland with two streams running across and a few woods, not another inhabited dwelling can be seen from the farm. One of the woods is used by the Marine Reserves on occasion and there are bashers and wigwams that they have built with plenty of wood lying about to have a go at making more.
Dogs are welcome here with no extra charge and no restriction on number. Our dogs love to welcome new dogs and if you haven't any dogs of your own ours are happy to step into the breach! There are 4 labradors, a Jack Russell and five cats.
We also have Rare Breed pigs, sheep, hens, Belted Galloways, Turner the horse and usually some produce to purchase.
Scotchcoulthard is halfway between Hexham and Carlisle and it is possible to be at Newcastle or The Lake District within the hour. There is walking right outside the door on the farm land and surrounding forest/common land. Scotchcoulthard is just off The Pennine Cycle Route 68 going through the forest.
Scotchcoulthard has a games room with a 3/4 size snooker table, table tennis, a selection of games, jigsaws, books, Dvd's and a seating/playing area. There is also a dining area with access to a fully equipped kitchen if all cottages are booked together and more space is needed.
There is an indoor heated pool (12mx5mx1m). It is on from Easter until the end of August and again for the October half term. It is shared between the other cottages and owners. However private use can be arranged if desired.
High Tipalt is a three bed-roomed cottage sleeping 6 (plus room for z-beds) on one floor with a shower room off master bedroom and two en-suite bathrooms upstairs.
Hawthorn is a three bed-roomed cottage sleeping up to 6. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. This cottage works better with 2 adults and 4 children, or 4 adults with 2 children as it is smaller than High Tipalt. The twin bedroom is the access to the Kingsize room.
Hope Sike is a one bedroom cottage all on one floor.
There is access to a twin en-suite room in another building which can be booked to be used as an overspill bedroom. It has a small fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and tv. The en-suite has a shower.
“Super dog friendly which was just perfect”
Reviewed 21 August 2016
This was perfect for our dog and the kids. Before we even parked the car we had an extra dog in the car. We generally had 4 dogs in our little cottage even tho we only took 1. Sadie, Heidi and Meg made us so welcome (as did Andrew & Susan) The cottage is in the middle of nowhere. It was spotlessly clean and really well kitted out. Fantastic walking country. Super dog friendly. It was lovely to stay somewhere and feel 100% comfortable with our dog. The owners were as welcoming to our dog as they were to us. We didn't panic if we had a soggy, muddy dog which in comparison to a lot of places made a really welcome change. Lovely holiday
