Characterful, comfortable family villa with views

  • 5 of 5

Villa was even better than expected; very spacious, comfortable, clean and well-equipped with great character . Views over the vineyards and open skies are something special, as is the deck and pool area. The owner was extremely responsive and helpful both before and during our stay and a useful handbook is provided. Villa is very well situated for local walks and vineyard visits, coastal bike rides and visiting Bordeaux (which has a very good park and ride system). We had a very relaxing week and would love to return.

Wonderful - 5 star experience

  • 5 of 5

This villa is perfect. The view out over the vineyards is relaxing and wonderful and we were pleased that you could not hear the road noise even though on the map it is quite close. The walk over the fields into Listrac for our morning coffee and pastries in the delicious local bakery and for our evening meal was lovely and very easy, including for my mother-in-law who does not like to walk too long or too far. And there are good circuits for a run also. We liked the fact the house was not isolated but at the same time it was private and spacious, with room for us all to be together or have quiet time alone. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking when we wanted to stay in. The surrounding area gave us plenty to do - we visited Chateau Latour and Chateau Margaux, both just a few minutes drive away and also the wonderful small Victorian Town of Soullac-sur-Mer. The owner of the villa was very helpful with recommendations and we found them spot on! Overall, a charming villa, great view and wonderful location. I am very fussy but this exceeded my and my family's expectations! A five star experience.

Wonderful location, very clean and light house. Lisa was terrific to deal with and the house had everything you could wish for. The kitchen/pool area fabulous, even in early Spring!

This was great villa with a beautiful and well equipped kitchen,it was in a great surroundings of a Wineyards which was remote and peaceful for a nice holiday away from the humdrum of every day life. Very easy to book the owners were very helpful and promptly answered our queries whilst booking the holiday. We highly recommend this property for a nice family break and would certainly book again when wanting to book a holiday in Bordeaux.

A luxurious haven

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 spent two weeks in this beautiful home, in July. I will start by saying that every photo and detail provided about the house on the website was absolutely correct. The house was an oasis of calm and luxury. We rested, swam and cooked in wonderful surroundings despite the fact that the area was experiencing an unusually hot spell. We loved to open all the French doors and let the breeze cool the house during the heat of the day. Night times were very comfortable. We slept with the French doors open and the shutters on the latch and this made for perfect sleeping conditions! The swimming pool was, of course, amazing and very good use was made of it each day! The kitchen was very well equipped with everything required to cook family meals using the quirky but easy to use indoor BBQ. The property was immaculately cleaned prior to our arrival and we were fortunate to be met by Lisa & Mark when we arrived who were as friendly in person as they had been during the booking process communications. The pool was maintained every day by Gregory who was very unobtrusive and arrived very early in morning before we were even thinking about using the pool. Lisa has made a few recommendations about the locality which were spot on. We ate in L'Embellie in Listac - three times! It was amazing each time and the set lunch, in particular, was excellent value. The staff were very friendly though they had little English and we had little French but we managed to communicate well with good humour, gesticulations and pidgin French / English. The language barrier did not stop us getting fabulous food and fabulous wine! We would highly recommend at least one visit to this hidden gem of a restaurant. Hourtin beach was another popular destination, suggested by Lisa and well worth a visit. We drove into Bordeaux one day - an easy 45 minute drive with plenty of easily accessible underground parking. Again, worth a visit. It's a beautiful city. The area surrounding the house is very pretty and my husband and son enjoyed walking through the vineyards each night after dinner.

All in all, we can say that the house, the area, the food and the pool all lived up to our high expectations and we very much hope that we will return to Lisa & Mark's wonderful property sometime in the future.

Fantastic base to explore this beautiful region

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful villa in July 2015. It's perfectly situated to explore this beautiful region, with Bordeaux only 45 mins drive and the beautiful beaches 30 mins. However you don't need to go anywhere as the villa is surrounded by magnificent views of the vineyards, it is extremely relaxing & peaceful to just not move from the poolside! The villa is well equipped and the decor is stunning, keeping the original features mixed beautifully with a modern and clean look. The Kitchen & bathrooms are terrific, especially when you are staying as a family of 8! The pool is kept very clean & was about 25,26 degrees each day. You could walk to Listrac through the vineyards (40 mins). Lisa is very helpful and responsive. This is a perfect getaway, we would recommend staying here.

There are 300 chateaux within 30km on the villa. Many open their doors and cellars for tours and tastings. Listrac is one of the "appellation villages" which. form part of the world-renown Médoc wine producers including top-end producuers in the grand cru classe. The vill is located 20km to the heart of the Médoc region, Margaux. There are various sub-regions within the Haut-Médoc, including St-Estèphe, Pauillac, St.-Julien and Margaux and the less well known areas of AOC Moulis and Listrac. According to wikipedia with the exception of Château Haut-Brion from Graves, all of the red wines in the 1855 Classification are from the Médoc. Many of the Médoc wines that are not in this classification were classified using the Cru Bourgeois system until 2007 until this was replaced in 2010. Many small independent producers open their cellars to visits and tastings and wines are affordable and often grown and processed next door to the famous names.
