"Villa Azzurra" Private Pool, Medieval City Of Oria Countryside, Brindisi Region

Updated: 05-Oct-2016
Villa in Oria, Brindisi Province, Puglia, Italy - Newly renovated, Very Spacious, Private Villa With Pool And Olive Grove. 4 Bedrooms/4 Baths, WiFi

Villa Azzurra is a newly renovated property. Sleeps 8 persons. It is 250 sq. meters in size and has a very airy spacious feel. The independent villa is set in a lovely walled garden on an acre of land. It is approached through electric gates with audio screening inside the villa. It is situated about 3kms from the delightful medieval town of Oria and very close to the Sanctuary of San Cosimo, both can be seen clearly from the villa. Al fresco living is really the Pugliese way of life especially in the summer months. The villa has a large covered verandah to the front with plenty of seating and dining facilities. There is a further terrace a couple of steps down from the pool terrace adjacent to one of the olive groves. On this terrace there is a very large wooden gazebo 7mtrs x 5mtrs. This provides shelter for numerous very comfortable lounging areas, another dining area and an outdoor kitchen. There is a wood burning pizza oven and an open barbecue along with a marble surfaced preparation area and sink. All this area is well lit for cooking and eating under the stars. The very large saline pool is 13x5 meters and entered from the Roman steps, which are also great for sitting/lying on. The depth is 1mtr 40cms throughout, perfect for a decent swim and teaching your children to swim. There are 8 luxury white resin rattan sun beds with extra -soft cushions; these are dotted around the paved patio surrounding the pool. There are also 8 turquoise sun beds, which can be taken to the beach or used as extras for up to 12 guests. The pool and surrounding area can be lit for evening swimming. Close to the pool there is an outdoor shower, which can also be used when returning from the beach as well as a full 4th bathroom in the outhouse. At night the pool area provides a fabulous spot to enjoy a Prosecco or local Primitivo - pre or post dinner -whilst watching the spectacular sunsets!

About the Owner

Gaynor and I live in a country area outside the market town of Selby, N. Yorks. We have one child who is a musician.

We have been holidaying in Puglia over the past 13 years and really love the area. We enjoy the ancient inland towns and cities and beautiful seaside towns and villages.

We particularly like Oria as a centre to visit for restaurants, markets and history. The people are helpful and friendly.

We bought our villa as a shell and have lovingly had it developed into a beautiful 4 bed property with a pool.

We have made friends with local people and would hope that anybody staying in the villa would enjoy their stay and holiday as much as we always do. Gaynor and Ray Geraghty

Amazing holiday and villa!

  • 5 of 5

The photos don't do this villa justice. It is spotlessly clean and has every amenity you could need. It's basically brand new! We arrived late at night and Mike met us without a problem - what a lovely man. We saw the pool and villa lit up and it looked lovely. After a midnight swim we awoke to a week of lazing by the pool, cooking in the pizza over and soaking up the sun. There's not much around the villa but you don't need it. Oria is cute but there are plenty of other places within driving distance - the beaches are lovely and it's easy to get a sunbed. Gaynor and Ray were so easy to deal with and we can't wait until our next stay - and there will be one! Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. We are so pleased that you and the other guests really enjoyed the villa and its amenities, having a great time too! We are trying to get our photos to give a better representation of the real thing; most other guests make similar positive comments. We are also pleased that you liked our local city of Oria, and were able to easily access other towns and beach resorts without any problems. Please feel free to return to the villa for another dose of luxury and chilled living in the near future! Thanks again, Gaynor and Ray

Superb Villa

  • 5 of 5

I have no hesitation in recommending this marvellous villa in the countryside outside Oria, a lovely medieval town full of history and excellent, reasonably priced restaurants. The villa, itself, is beautifully presented, clean and very well equipped with plenty of outside spaces to relax or dine. (The pizza oven was a big success with the family). A very friendly representative was charming and available to give advice, adding to all the helpful pre-holiday tips from the owners, Gaynor and Ray. I really cannot emphasise enough how lovely Villa Azzurra is and would definitely choose to stay there next time I plan a visit to this very interesting region.

Excellent villa

The villa was beautifully clean and maintained to the highest standards. The kitchen was equipped with everything a keen cook could want. Externally, the pool and surrounding areas were delightful. A truly luxurious and rare holiday experience.

A listing description could not reflect the true perfection of this villa that lies in a peaceful area of Puglia close to Oria. The owner's attention to detail was exceptional with nothing left out or to chance. The property was exceptionally clean and well maintained and the facilities provided were outstanding. Ray and Gaynor made the UK end of the holiday planning experience simple by providing valuable courteous advice with that experience being echoed in Italy by the phenomenal support provided by Mike, the local representative; customer service at its very best! The property was very tastefully renovated and the outdoor pool, eating, and relaxing areas left nothing wanting. A welcome pack including the essentials to avoid the need for shopping en route made the arrival a pleasurable experience. Many beaches and typically historical Italian towns were within easy driving distance. Oria and Lecce are two of the larger towns and well worth a visit. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Villa and thank Ray, Gaynor and Mike on behalf of all six of us for a fantastic holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We were so very pleased that you had such a fantastic holiday and enjoyed the villa and area so much. We realise that Puglia is relatively undiscovered by many British tourists so we are particularly pleased that you and your party found it such a delight. We will pass on your compliments to the rest of our team. Kind regards, Gaynor and Ray.

An outstanding villa in the heart of Puglia

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in many villa's throughout Europe in the last 10 years or more I can confidently state this is the best property we have ever stayed in. The service provided by Ray and Gaynor in the UK and Mike in Italy was excellent. No expense has been spared when renovating this property with all the facilities you could wish for and all at a very high end spec. We were welcomed with cold wine, milk, bread and water in the fridge which was a lovely touch. This spotlessly clean Villa is set in the unspoilt rural outskirts of Oria where I defy anyone not to relax and chill out with a true taste of Italy. A car is essential for exploring but Archie's bar and restaurant is an easy walk away and offers a warm welcome and the most reasonable prices of any restaurant I have ever stayed in, without compromising on the quality of the food. I would have no hesitation in returning and would wholeheartedly recommend this villa to anyone. Thanks for a lovely holiday Ray and Gaynor.

It is impossible to describe Villa Azzurra without sounding over the top.

The place is simply amazing. It is better & bigger than the pictures do suggest; the large pool, the terraces, the well equipped kitchen, the living areas, etc. Everything is finished to an exceptionally high standard.

Mike, the representative was great. He met us on arrival and was available at all times to help if we needed assistance.

It is a little remote, but if that is what you are looking for, this place is perfect.

Thanks Ray and Gaynor!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your glowing review. We are extremely pleased that you loved our villa and appreciated the care and attention to detail that we and our team have put into the property. We realise that our photographs do not do Villa Azzurra justice and in the light of this we are going to replace many of the existing photographs over the coming months. We also hope to include a video. Once again we are delighted that you and your party enjoyed your stay. Gaynor and Ray.

From the Owner

The property is in a charming location in the countryside 3 kilometres S.W. of Oria. We recognised the potential of the property as a holiday home close to the city and with good access to motorway routes to other centres and seaside areas. The airport at Brindisi is less than half an hour away whilst the airport at Bari is one hour and a half's drive to the property. The food and wine are excellent and are cheaper than many other areas in Italy. We love this area because of the wonderful Medieval and historic towns, fabulous beaches and nowhere is too far away to visit. The Villa has been transformed from a basic shell to what we now feel is a beautiful property that has exceeded our wildest dreams. Staying at Villa Azzurra will provide an experience that will give you a true taste of the "Dolce Vita".

Conveniently located between the Adriatic coast 25 mins drive and Ionian 30. Both have fabulous white sandy beaches some with full facilities. The beaches are safe for children. Torre Guaceto on the Adriatic coast is a blue flag nature reserve. The Ionian beaches at Punto Proscutto and San Pietra in Bevana are very special and two of our favourites. We often go to the seaside town of Porto Cesareo with its fantastic water front gelateria and our favourite restaurant "Al Gambero" excellent seafood

The property is 30 minutes 43kms from Brindisi airport and about 95 minutes 140kms from Bari airport. There are daily flights provided by Ryanair, Easyjet, BA and Alitalia. There is also a port at Brindisi that offers ferries over to Greece. Although there are train stations nearby, which will give you some great day trips, car hire is really essential in order to explore this rich, un-spoilt and varied region of Italy.

Further Details:

Puglia is best known for its fresh Mediterranean produce, amazing olive oil, fruit, vegetables and pasta as well as incredible meat inland and stunning seafood on the coast. The wine is gorgeous, from the excellent Primitivo di Manduria (red) to the superbly quaffable Prosecco (fizzy) and one of our favourites, Leverano (Vecchia Torre white). Villa Azzurra is 3 klms (5 minutes in the car) from the delightful historic town of Oria with its cobbled streets, wonderful restaurants and bars and vibrant market. This stunning medieval town has history around every corner. Puglia is famous for its unique tiny conical trulli buildings and the magnificent Masserias – fortified farmhouses. However, it is largely undiscovered by the rest of the world. If you want to experience true Italy at its best (and eat some of the most delicious food of your life) then you are in the right place! We provide a detailed information pack to our guests, full of recommendations of our favourite local restaurants, local market days, the best local beaches and lots of activities for children like the fabulous safari theme park in Fasanoland (great for adults and children alike). The property is the perfect place to relax and do nothing but if you are interested in seeing Puglia we leave top tips in our file. You will need two days to explore Oria alone with its Frederic 2nd (13th century) castle and palace, extraordinary Jewish quarter dating back to 500AD and exquisite churches. Oria is less 'discovered' than many other parts and as such remains more 'Italian' and much cheaper than many other areas. The restaurants are really fantastic and very reasonable.Beyond Oria are towns and cities galore to explore. In the summer months there is nightly entertainment in both the Medieval town of Oria and the Baroque town of Francavilla Fontana. Entertainment takes the various forms of music and dance, as well as Medieval games in Oria in August with plenty of fireworks!

From the Owner

The villa is in its own grounds of one acre containing 100 olive trees and other trees and plants. It is in a quiet and peaceful location so that everyone staying there can relax and chill out by the pool enjoying the lovely climate. The outdoor kitchen and dining areas provide further options to enhance your holiday and this includes a full sized pizza oven and built in barbecue next to a huge wooden gazebo. The drive into Oria takes about five minutes. The villa is equipped to a high standard with all new facilities to enjoy. It also has a very large lounge dinner plus a second large lounge downstairs allowing guests to have their own space when required. This makes it and ideal property for a number of families and or guests of varying ages. There are many things to do on our doorstep, including visiting ancient towns and cities both inland and at the seaside. There is safe off road parking for up to 4 cars inside the grounds of the villa. The local Primitivo red wine is manufactured just 7 kilometres from our villa and local white wines are grown and readily available at very cheap prices! The property provides a very tranquil and restful experience for its guests. We have enjoyed many fabulous sunsets from the terraces and verandah at night.
