Villa With 25 mt Pool And Magnificent Views Over A Protected Park And The Alps

Overview

Property

Updated: 12-Sep-2016
Villa in Oltrona di San Mamette, Como, Lombardy, Italy - Peaceful Location Very Close To Milan And Lake Como. Perfect For Visiting Expo 2015!

Il Ronco is a charming family home set in an idyllic garden on top of a hill and surrounded by chestnut and pine tree forests. On the hill there are 5 more villas, all belonging to the same family and all quite far from each other. We have the best view! over the Parco del Ticino, a protected forest, all the way to the Monte Rosa, one of the highest peaks in the Alps. The land has been in the family for 5 generations and used to be a hunting reserve with a hunting lodge. The reason why the current owners' parents decided to live there is that it is a very easy commute to Milan where they worked but also to Como where the kids went to school and ideal for great family day trips on the lake. The Swiss border is only about 15 minutes drive from the house and a visit to Lugano is always fun if you are there. There are golf courses, designers clothes outlets, fun water parks and tree top walks to entertain the whole family but we find that we often end up just going to the pool for a swim and a game of tennis or table tennis, hang out in the conservatory in the garden or on the veranda and perhaps go out to one of the fantastic local restaurants for a proper meal or just a nice pizza. The best time of the day is always the Martini cocktail on the veranda at sunset. Different every night, beautiful every night.

About the Owner

I am Italian and grew up in this house. i now live in London with my husband and 3 children and we use the house for family holidays. We all love it because it is comfortable, close to Milan for shopping (and culture :))

and to the lake for fantastic days out but it's also always quiet in the evenings when we come back and have a drink in front of the fire or out on the veranda, depending on the season.

We had a wonderful time in Oltrona San Mamette, and the location itself was stunning, a splendid villa with an authentic Italian classic design, a beautiful forest all around the property, a terrific place to have your wedding. We had our families hosted here for the whole weekend and they really loved it, and of course our wedding ceremony fitted perfectly with the house veranda. Francesca was really helpful from the very beginning and she also assisted us to find a perfect restaurant for our wedding reception. Everything was beautiful inside and outside, clean and shiny and we were really impressed on how the interior is decorated with authentic art pieces and antiques.

Hopefully we'll manage to come back again and we strongly recommend this place to people who really pay attention to fine details and of course to everyone who is keen to find a match for a classic Italian property.

We really enjoyed the villa. Everything was beautiful and spacious. Plenty of room to spread your wings or just curl up with a good book. Quiet and serene. Would definitely go back. Thanks to Francesca and Juan for making this a magical vacation

We loved this beautiful, cozy house and everything about it! From the fully stocked kitchen to the lovely pool we enjoyed the whole experience very much. We would highly recommend, easy access from Milan airport, a short drive from lake como and a really fun and romantic atmosphere. Franchesca is lovely and accomodating. Book and enjoy!

The most magical family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Even though we just arrived at home, I had to write a review of how simply fantastic this house and amenities were.

The owners could not be more gracious. The house staff person was discreet and helpful. The house is gorgeous and full of wonderful antiques and rugs, the beds are made with antique linens and the kitchen is stocked full of everything you could possibly need for the preparation and serving of meals to a crowd. We were ten adults with two small children and everyone loved their accommodations.

The lawn is huge and perfect for ultimate frisbee or soccer games. My family did on and off road biking and it is easy to get bikes delivered to the house. Altho the pool is a ten minute walk or drive, it is huge and we mostly had it all to ourselves- it was immaculate and the water was perfect. We brought a picnic lunch there and there is also tennis and volleyball or badminton. In the mornings we walked down the hill to the village where there is an old fashioned bakery that made incredible baked goods. The grocery store is a five minute drive too. It took thirty minutes for us to get there from the Milan airport and Lake Lugano and Lake Como are both an easy twenty five minute drive. There is so much to do in the area. On the one rainy day we had we went bowling in the town nearby.

I can only say that our family will never forget what a wonderful time at Il Ronco.

Big, cosy villa with nice surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We spent a really nice Christmas here, and the villa was perfect in size even though we were a large group of 11 people. We really much enjoyed also playing tennis at the premises, and we think that the swimming pool area in general would be very nice in the summer. From the big and beautiful front yard and terraces you get a view of the alps. Now when it was winter, we enjoyed the villa more from the inside, sitting by the relaxing fireplace. The kitchen was very well equipped, it had everything we needed and more. Thank you! I would definitely recommend this place for a nice, cosy family get-together.

Succesful choice for holidays!

  • 4 of 5

We came Oltrona village and Il Ronco 22nd of Dec to spend our Christmas holidays there. The house and the whole area were just perfect for our big group (11 persons). The facilities were really good for us, enough bedrooms, bathrooms, big kitchen to cook all christmas foods etc.

The location was very good, only some 40 km from Malpensa airport, La Como lake quite near. I really can recommend this place!

Location

From the Owner

The house was built by my dad, who was an architect, for his family, on a hill that belongs to my mother's family. He designed 3 different houses and she chose the one that was built. They then decorated it together and as we grew up, we added bits too, so it really feels like a home, not just a house. It is on top of a hill, with magnificent views of the Parco del Ticino (a beautiful forest) all the way to the Alps, with not a single house to be seen in between. It has a 25 mt pool and a tennis court on the other side of the hill which we share with the family. If I had not inherited it and i saw it I would definitely dream of buying it.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Malpensa at 50 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Bar Centrale at 0.3 Kilometres Nearest Golf : La Pinetina at 3 Kilometres Nearest Train : Lomazzo at 8 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A9, Lomazzo exit at 8 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Pizzeria at 0.3 Kilometres Car: recommended

Travel:

Milan Malpensa Airport, 52 Km, about 40 minutes drive.

Milan Linate Airport 60 Km, about 50 minutes drive.

The caretaker can pick up a maximum of 4 people from the airport upon request.

If you have more people you will need to hire a car, if not the caretaker can also take you to the nearest station to go to Milan, which is 9 km away or to the bus stop in the village for the bus to Como.

Distances:

The village is only a few minutes’ walk at the bottom of the hill and has 2 bars, a bakery, a vegetable shop, a post office and a general store.

The nearest bigger village Appiano Gentile - where Inter Milan train! - is 3 Km away, and has various supermarkets, restaurants etc.

The nearest town is Como, 17 Km away.

Further Details:

One of the must do for your holiday is to go and have a drink at the Villa d'Este hotel in Cernobbio. It is a 20 minutes drive from home and the most expensive cocktail you'll ever have, probably, but the Villa is fabulous, the lake view breathtaking and the delicious and generous snacks they bring you with your always perfect drink mean that you won't need any dinner.

In Como you can hop on a modern small ferry or in an old wheel ferry and do a tour of the lake. There are dozens of amazing villas to see, mostly you will be told about George Clooney's property or Gucci's, but ask your driver to show you the villa of Pliny the Younger, the oldest on the shores, and the beautiful villa del Balbianello.

In Milan, go to Brera, there is the most beautiful Mantegna painting of the deposed Christ, among lots of other paintings, and then walk along Via Brera until you get to Piazza della Scala and through the Galleria into Piazza del Duomo. It is a lovely walk and you will see some of the best bits of Milan. In Brera there is a Bar called Bar Giamaica which used to be the artists' meeting place. It's still a fun place to go to, quite scruffily unitalian and fun.

For families with children, there are a number of Theme parks in the area, from tree climbing and walking to the famous California Water Park, just across the border in Chiasso (20 min drive) to name just a couple.

Facilities

From the Owner

The great thing about il Ronco is that it is so well located for getting to and from Malpensa airport (40 minutes drive), shopping and sightseeing in Milan (30 minutes), lake Como (20 minutes), 4 golf courses (all within 30 minutes drive), riding in the village next door, swimming and tennis within the property and at the same time you are guaranteed complete peace if you just want to sit in the garden and read a book or have a drink whilst watching the sun go down behind the Alps. the only interruption would be the sound of a cuckoo bird or a squirrel running from one tree to the next.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The only room that gets quite hot in the summer is the master bedroom and it has air conditioning. Fans are available for the other rooms if needed. The house is full of rather precious things so if you have children please let us know and we will decide together whether the house is suitable for them or not. Outside: The house has a very large garden with a sloping front lawn facing west, towards the Alps. There is a lovely veranda with two tables and various chairs and armchairs to sit outside. In the heat of the afternoon an electric sun shade can be lowered so the stone paving does not get too hot. There is a BBQ by the kitchen and another one by the out house. The shared 25x12 mt pool and the tennis court are 5 minutes' walk on the other side of the hill. The garden is surrounded by woods which can be explored by children and enjoyed by parents in need of a walk. The garden is taken up mostly by lawn, so the view is unencumbered. A few flower beds are planted with indigenous flowers and roses. There are some cherry, sharon fruit, apple, plum and pear trees in the side of the garden where vegetables also used to be grown. There is a double garage and plenty of space for parking. Utility Room: The utility room is in the basement. It has a large 9 kg washing machine. No drier as it ruins clothes and they dry just as fast in the sun :). Ironing table, ironing board and professional steam iron in the ironing room. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: There is a house keeper that lives in the house and does daily cleaning of communal areas. Towels and linen are changed once a week. A cook and someone to do the ironing and clean the rooms on a daily basis can be provided upon request. Other: The dining room is located in the conservatory and has a table that seats 10 comfortably. In the garden there is another conservatory which is used in the summer for watching movies or for the kids to hang out away from their parents.
