Rural Retreat Nicely Situated For Both Sight Seeing And Relaxing, Open All Year

Overview

Property

Updated: 10-Dec-2016
Rural Retreat Nicely Situated For Both Sight Seeing And Relaxing, Open All Year

A versatile property designed to offer a roomy holiday home for 2 people, with the capacity to accommodate up to 4 in total by making use of the lounge or mezzanine sofa beds.

Double French doors lead into the open plan lounge/diner/kitchen area and, together with the partly vaulted ceiling, make this space particularly light and cheery.

The modern fitted shower room is also located on the ground floor.

For out of season getaways, the gite benefits from double glazing throughout, is well insulated, and has Underfloor Heating.

An ornate spiral staircase leads to the upper floor where you will find the double aspect bedroom with a dormer window overlooking the garden, and a Velux overlooking the country lane behind the house. There is a double French bed and plenty of storage space (2 built-in cupboards in the eaves, 2 bedside cabinets, and a hanging rail).

The mezzanine has a comfy double sofa bed, cabinet and hanging rail, and is fully curtained for privacy.

All the upper floor (bedroom, mezzanine and upstairs wc) has hardwood flooring, and the vaulted ceilings make for a spacious feel.

Adjoining the owners property, and completely self-contained with its own entrance, there is ample parking for two cars, a patio and small garden, barbecue, table and chairs, and a parasol.

Owners Karen & Andy will be delighted to greet you on arrival, and will happily be on hand during your stay to give friendly advice and help if required, without being intrusive.

This property is nestled in a small rural hamlet of half a dozen houses, including two working farms. The hamlet is surrounded by farmland and quiet roads, making it a good base for walks or cycling in the summer months. Or drive in any direction, either to visit some of the many popular tourist attractions in the area or just to admire the beautiful scenery. And of course you can just relax in the gite or the garden, soak up the sun and enjoy a bbq in the summer, or in winter stay cosy in the lounge, and snuggle up in front of the woodburner with a good book or a movie – ideal for a winter get away break!

About the Owner

We are Andy and Karen Williams, and lived and worked in Norfolk, England, all our lives until moving to France in 2012.

The search for our dream home in France eventually led us to a property that fitted the bill perfectly in terms of location, potential for Andy as a complete restoration project, and our modest budget.

For the next 5 years we spent our holidays here working on the property, until 2012 when we followed our hearts, sold our house in England and made the move to our home in France. Since then, we have mainly focussed our attention on restoring the section of the building we designed as a self-contained gîte.

Excellent Comfortable Rural Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to ‘Le Pressoir and we found it as enchanting on the second visit, as we did on the first. We had a warm welcome from Karen and Andy who are excellent hosts who have put a lot of thought into equipping their Gite, everything you need for a comfortable stay a real home from home.

We had a lovely break and recharged our batteries in this rural and tranquil setting. which is ideally situated to explore the beautiful Normandy countryside. There are a lot of interesting places to visit without having to go too far.

If you enjoy walking we would recommend the ‘Goblin’ trail around Mortain a visit to La Fosse Arthour and the Andaine Forest.

There is plenty of local information in the Gite and Andy and Karen are on hand if you need any further information, they have a lot of local knowledge.

Having more than 20 years’ experience of renting properties across Europe this is definitely one of the best and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in this area. I We will certainly be returning at some time in the future.

Stunning 5 star Gite, thoroughly recommended!!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived and came across this stunning immaculate gite after a beautiful journey through France to be greeted by our wonderful hosts Karen & Andy with a lovely welcoming cup of tea. Karen & Andy showed us round their their amazing ornate yet spacious gite, we have travelled through Europe and UK for nearly forty years now and can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the best accommodation we have ever experienced. The attention to detail that Karen & Andy have given in creating their Gite is simply stunning. Coupled with Karen & Andy's warm caring hospitality, we felt very lucky & spoilt. A beautifully appointed kitchen, diner, lounge and luxury shower & bathroom with a lovely ornate spiral staircase leading to the mezzanine floor upstairs with cozy bedroom, sitting area with comfy sofa bed settee and lovely views of the surrounding rural buildings and landscape. What with numerous beautiful medieval towns, wonderful cafes, restaurants, WW2 landing beaches nearby, Wi FI , British TV, underfloor heating, well what more could we have wanted! We had a great time and have already rebooked with Karen & Andy for next year, and look forward to returning and enjoying the odd glass of wine or two with our new found friends & hosts Karen & Andy. We are recommending this Gite to all of our friends & family needless to say!

We would like to thank Karen and Andy for our wonderful holiday in their beautiful gite. The gite is very clean and beautifully decorated. It has everything you could possible want for a comfortable stay. Karen and Andy are so friendly and always on hand to help or recommend where to visit. The gite is set in beautiful Normandie countryside where you can hear the birds, listen to the owls and even heard a woodpecker. We are hoping to go back very soon. We would highly recommend this gite.

Lovely new spotlessly clean Gite complete with everything needed to make stay comfortable. Lovely pretty garden area

Nothing within walking distance so a car is a must.

Really enjoyed visiting the many markets particularly Vers and St.Hilaire A definite must visit are the Towns of Cite Medievale De Dinan and the beautiful Town of Bagnoles de l'Orne.

Gite Owners were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble.

I would definitely recommend this Gite particularly if you want a quiet relaxing time

From the Owner

We love the beauty and tranquillity of the Basse-Normandie countryside, the French way of life, the people, and the quiet roads that present stunning scenery turn after turn. Despite the rural nature of the area, there is plenty to do as well as see, and you don't have to drive far to reach a bustling town if that's your scene. In fact we believe there is something here to suit everyone.

Further Details:

If you are looking for something particular in your holiday, we suggest contacting the owners who will be more than happy to advise you further, but here is just a taste of the local area.

In the 19th century Ger was home to a thriving pottery industry employing 700 workers. The Regional Pottery Museum, with its working kiln and demonstrations, makes for an interesting visit.

Mortain is steeped in history, boasting two waterfalls and an outdoor heated swimming pool in the summer. Not to be missed is the Petite Chapelle and Hill 314 (strategic WWII post), with a superb viewing point of the area across to the coast, and from where you can see Mont Saint Michel on a clear day.

The pretty village of Lonlay, with its ancient Abbey and famous biscuit factory, is only 5 miles from the gîte, and from there a 10 minute drive takes you to the medieval town of Domfront.

Drive just 20 minutes on from Domfront (40 minutes from the gîte) through the Andaine forest to the impressive town of Bagnoles de l'Orne, set around a central lake in picturesque gardens. Here you will find everything from golf course to racecourse, thermal springs to casino, restaurants and shops.

In the other direction from the gîte, the coast is within an hour's drive. Coastal delights include Mont Saint Michel (approx 45 mins drive) with its surrounding bay, and the D Day Landing Beaches (approx 1 1/2 hour drive), plus pretty coastal towns.

Weekday markets all year round, and weekend car boot sales from around April to October, offer the opportunity to explore some of the many local towns and villages, as well as seeking out a bargain or two to take back home!

Park at Le Neufbourg (10kms), and walk or cycle in either direction along the old railway line linking Vire to Le Mont St Michel.

Fancy a day in Paris? There is a direct train route from Flers to Paris, which takes from 2 to 2 ½ hours, depending on departure time (Flers is a 25 minute drive from the gîte).

Facilities

From the Owner

It is an easy drive from most ferry ports and Dinard airport, and the roads are generally a pleasure to drive so your holiday really starts as soon as you land on French soil. While the gite is well placed to explore the many tourist attractions of Basse Normandie, it's rural location also makes it ideal as a pleasant retreat, and so we feel it offers the best of both worlds. Following a successful first season with the gîte in 2015, we are looking forward to welcoming visitors again this year, and helping in any way we can to ensure you have the holiday you are hoping for.
