Gatehouse in Englefield Green, Nr. Egham, Surrey, England - Peaceful Location With Easy Access To Windsor Great Park Convenient For Heathrow Airport

Before you read on, please note children must be 11 years and older. There is no flexibility on this. If children are in your group, please state their ages. You need a car as there is no public transport nearby - or else use taxis. We accept up to 2 house-trained dogs which must be kept on leads to safeguard our livestock. We do not accept all breeds. When making an enquiry, please state breed.

An immaculate spacious property with 2 bedrooms and one bathroom on a private, secure gated estate situated on a quiet lane. Approx. 950 square feet. Lounge, separate dining room with wood burning stove, modern kitchen, bathroom, all presented to a high standard and furnished with a mixture of modern and antique furniture. We can sleep 6 with the use of 2 chair beds. Built on 3 levels so not suitable for those with mobility issues.

This property is part of our home and we are delighted to assist you during your stay.

We are also close to many important sporting events inc. racing at Ascot, Henley, Smiths Lawn Polo, Wentworth and Sunningdale golf.

A rural location away from the rat race, yet with easy access to London (Waterloo - 34 mins), and the M25/M3/M4/M40.

Notes on accommodation: Dogs are very welcome. Outside: 15 acres of grounds where you may wander. In the summer we have some Sussex cattle grazing. We also keep chickens, bantams and ducks. Ample secure off-street parking. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels provided. Cleaning services available on request. Other: Study area over the entrance archway. Large walk-in airing cupboard and storage.

A really enjoyable stay

We had the pleasure to stay in this wonderful house with our teenage son for the last week of our summer holidays.

Everything in the house was very clean, nothing missing. We especially liked the farm details - chickens, ducks and a small herd of cattle, blackberries (only if you arrive at the right time in August).

A 15 minute walk from the house will lead you to Windsor Great Park with its herd of free range deer and a magnificent view of Windsor Castle.

Lesley is a very supportive person which will help you with anything, starting with fresh eggs from the chickens.

This has been one of the best holiday homes we had in the last years.

Peaceful location close to pleasant dog-walking countryside

My wife, son and I had a very relaxing time at the Gatehouse, which was in a very peaceful setting but close enough to all amenities and access to main road and rail transport routes. Lesley was delightful and ready to help at any time. We would return again to enjoy this charming property.

Excellent - rural and quiet and comfortable.

We very much enjoyed our stay. It was for a family event but we were very pleased with being in such a quiet place yet so close to main roads and only a minute or two from Windsor Great Park.

Delightful autumn break

Excellent position to access many of the interesting sites in the area then lovely to come back to a quiet secluded base. Very comfortable place to stay and a welcoming helpful owner. There are pubs within walking distance but good cooking facilities if you wish to stay in. Quirky layout in this converted archway house but it works well (as long as mobility no issue). We hope to use this as a base again to explore more of the area - and ability to bring the dog too is an added bonus.

Wonderful in every aspect!

Everything mentioned in the other reviews is spot on, what can I add? Let me try to summarize our stay. It is not (y)our home, but from the moment we drove through the gates of the Gatehouse, it sure felt like home!

We were welcomed by Lesley, wonderful lady, we felt directly at ease. We quickly found out we had quite a few significant things in common which immediately gave a bond.

As tourists we were treated to the wonderful Gatehouse with everything you need, clean, so well looked after and spacious. Wifi is fast, beds are comfy, kitchen is well equipped, wonderful. We could walk the dog, he was so welcome (!), in the grounds, wonderful. Even the private, protected, parking space was wonderful near the chickens. All this is sitting in a delightful English landscape, just one hour drive from Oxford, London, Surrey hills and Stonehenge.

Our 8 day stay was over in a blink of an eye; kids loved every minute of it, wonderful.

Next year we will go to the South of England; I wish I could, like a wizard, take the Gatehouse with me. Thank you so much, Lesley!

Owner's Response: What a wonderful family from Holland. I missed them dreadfully when they left. Indeed, we had a lot in common and there was never a shortage of conversation. These are kind, considerate guests who will leave your property in an immaculate condition, and Hans will keep you amused with his sense of humour. If you get the opportunity to be their hosts, then grab them fast. You won't regret it!

Etwas ganz besonderes!

Unsere 4 Tage im Torhaus waren perfekt! Die Wohnung ist super gemütlich, tiptop sauber, hat gemütliche Betten und schöne Ausblicke auf die alten Stallungen und den Hof. Frische Eier kann man auch kaufen denn Hühner gibt es auch noch! Für uns war es eine perfekte Auszeit auf dem Land.

Die Wohnung liegt perfekt für Ausflüge nach London - in knapp 45 Minuten ist man mit dem Zug von Egham (Nachbarort) an Waterloo Station!

Nach einem 10-minütigen-Gang zu Fuß erreicht man einen Eingang des Windsor Great Park (kostenlos), der uns nachhaltig beeindruckt hat! Auch für ausgiebige Spaziergänge mit den Hund super!

Heathrow 6 miles Gatwick 39 minutes London (Egham-Waterloo) 35 mins and a 5 minute drive to Egham station with ample parking.. Easy access to UK Motorway system (M25 5 mins away - but we do not hear it!)


The Sun Inn within walking distance and dogs welcome at various pubs in the locality. Windsor Great Park and Savill Gardens are a very short drive. Also The WWII War Memorial and Runnymede (1 mile). Windsor 15 minutes.

Further Details:

Plenty of local restaurants and pubs within a short drive. Savill Gardens and Windsor Great Park - 0.5 miles Thorpe Park and Legoland within 7 miles. Ascot 6.5 miles. Easy access to UK motorway network.
