Cottage in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Strathclyde (Inc. Islands), Scotland - Peaceful Location Within Easy Walking Distance Of Town Centre, A Few Paces To Sea Front

Bogany Cottage - situated on the beautiful island of Bute is a recently built, two bedroom cottage that sleeps 4. Situated just off the shore road, within easy walking distance of Rothesay centre. The island has a great deal of amazing scenery, beautiful beaches, wildlife, walking, golf, sailing, fishing and of course relaxation. There are stunning sea views from the cottage towards Port Bannatyne and the Kyles of Bute, although a car is not necessary it is an advantage to explore the beautiful scenery and attractions that this island has to offer. The cottage was built approximately 4 years ago and is approached via its own gates and provides a large private parking area in front of the property, There is disabled access directly from the car to the front door. There is a large, secure garden, great for children and pets and also for that summer barbecue!! The interior has under floor gas heating with independent thermostats in each room. The sitting room/kitchen is open plan with a central log burner (logs will be provided for 2 nights) and vaulted ceiling which gives a light and yet cosy feel with comfortable seating, a television and DVD player. The kitchen is equipped to a very high standard with fully integrated appliances, including fridge/freezer, oven and hob and washing machine. A welcome pack will be included for your arrival. There are two double bedrooms, one with king size bed and the second with twin beds. Fully equipped bathroom with bath and shower over. Luxury bed linen and towels are provided, plus a weekly cleaning service for guest staying for more than one week. We welcome pets with prior arrangement with ourselves.

About Helen

Helen and Allison are mother and daughter, we live on the island and have recently purchased Bogany Cottage. We have really enjoyed spending time and effort furnishing it to a very high standard. We shall be managing the holiday lettings ourselves and will be on hand to make sure that our clients have a holiday to remember.

Helen purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Helen chose Scotland

We fell in love with everything about the cottage from its location to the lay- out internally. The location is great, quiet and within easy walking distance of the centre of Rothesay. The views are excellent and it is well situated for exploring the island.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is warm and cosy. The under-floor heating is very efficient with individual thermostats in every room, there is also the advantage of the log burner. The combined sitting room and kitchen, with vaulted ceiling, make this a very sociable arrangement. Good sized, fully enclosed garden is excellent for outside dining in the summer and very child friendly. There is ample private parking for several cars.

Lovely homely cottage with gorgeous views and peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely cottage, 2 minutes away from the ferry, very easy to find. Lovely big gardens for the kids and dog to run around in with beautiful views of the loch. Very warm and cosy and would definitely go back to the cottage when we return to Bute.

Home from home

We stayed at Bogany Cottage between Christmas and New Year 2016. My husband, me and our two cocker spaniels were very happy with the facilities, the cottage was clean and had everything you could need, even pods for the coffee machine! The dogs certainly made use of the enclosed garden. The only teeny tiny fault (and this only affected us as we have two dogs) was that to get to the garden we had to put them on their leads as access from the cottage was across the driveway and at 7am I didn't fancy risking them taking off on an adventure out of the driveway and down the road! But that's just a minor thing, and not really an issue if you a) don't have dogs b) do have dogs but they are very obedient!

We absolutely loved the underfloor heating and the wood burner, and the cottage was close to the town (a 10 minute walk). A lovely, quiet, friendly island with plenty of walks, breath taking scenery and of course it helped that we had unseasonally good weather.

I would recommend Bogany Cottage, with it's quick communication from the owners and thoughtful finishing touches.

Lovely cottage for a short break on Bute

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is well situated close to the seafront and only a 15 min walk from the town centre. Everything was as described, Helen was prompt in addressing queries, and the main living area didn't feel crowded, even though we were 4 adults sharing.

The place always seemed warm and we adjusted the heating if we needed to - it worked fine.

Our only negative comment is that the cottage isn't really equipped for cooking. As we were on the island over New year, we planned on making meals rather than eating out as we weren't sure what was open. On arrival however, we realised that there are only a couple of pots and pans and, although there are a few utensils, the kitchen isn't really up to anything more than the basics. Still, it's only an issue if you want to cook and we made do! Otherwise everything was grand and we would stay again.

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Bogany cottage. The cottage is very central to Rothesay, about 10 minutes walk to the local shops and pubs/restaurants. 5 minutes drive from the ferry port when you come off the ferry.

The cottage has absolutely beautiful views across the harbour towards the mainland from the living area and master bedroom.

The owner's daughter met us on arrival and explained how the underfloor heating worked etc.

Overall a lovely long weekend with friends and our little dog. We would definitely recommend the cottage to anybody visiting Bute.

Excellent Location, perfect cottage

  • 5 of 5

After spending a lovely relaxing week in Bogany Cottage, we would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a perfect base from which to explore the Island. The cottage easily accomodates 4 people plus dogs in two very good sized bedrooms with ample living space in the open plan living/dining/kitchen room. Everything is provided including plenty of towels which is a packing bonus, and enough tea, coffee etc is provided to keep you going for a while. A steady, level 10 minute walk takes you to the Town (Rothesay) where all the shops you should need are located including supermarkets, banks, etc and if you get a chance, use the cinema which is compact and bijou but perfect! We visited Mount Stuart House and gardens and thoroughly enjoyed it - but give yourself plenty of time to get all the way around. Our favourite beach, also favoured by our dogs, was Etterick Bay - the tearoom is great for an inexpensive snack after spending some time on the sandy beach. We also managed to get pretty close to the seals on Scalpsie Beach - great photo opportunity! We also saw plenty of bird life, including a puffin but missed out on the porpoises. Eating out wise we tried various places and our favourite was The Kingarth Hotel & Smiddy Bar near Kilchattan Bay - a lovely pub with outside and inside seating, an extensive menu and restaurant quality food. All in all, a great week on a lovely Island - we didn't need to venture back over to the mainland until it was time to leave so would thoroughly recommend this perfect cottage to anyone - Helen and Allison, the owners, were great too - we were greeted and shown around and communication before and during our holiday was spot on. 5 Stars all round!
