Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Bogany cottage. The cottage is very central to Rothesay, about 10 minutes walk to the local shops and pubs/restaurants. 5 minutes drive from the ferry port when you come off the ferry.

The cottage has absolutely beautiful views across the harbour towards the mainland from the living area and master bedroom.

The owner's daughter met us on arrival and explained how the underfloor heating worked etc.

Overall a lovely long weekend with friends and our little dog. We would definitely recommend the cottage to anybody visiting Bute.

Excellent Location, perfect cottage

  • 5 of 5

After spending a lovely relaxing week in Bogany Cottage, we would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a perfect base from which to explore the Island. The cottage easily accomodates 4 people plus dogs in two very good sized bedrooms with ample living space in the open plan living/dining/kitchen room. Everything is provided including plenty of towels which is a packing bonus, and enough tea, coffee etc is provided to keep you going for a while. A steady, level 10 minute walk takes you to the Town (Rothesay) where all the shops you should need are located including supermarkets, banks, etc and if you get a chance, use the cinema which is compact and bijou but perfect! We visited Mount Stuart House and gardens and thoroughly enjoyed it - but give yourself plenty of time to get all the way around. Our favourite beach, also favoured by our dogs, was Etterick Bay - the tearoom is great for an inexpensive snack after spending some time on the sandy beach. We also managed to get pretty close to the seals on Scalpsie Beach - great photo opportunity! We also saw plenty of bird life, including a puffin but missed out on the porpoises. Eating out wise we tried various places and our favourite was The Kingarth Hotel & Smiddy Bar near Kilchattan Bay - a lovely pub with outside and inside seating, an extensive menu and restaurant quality food. All in all, a great week on a lovely Island - we didn't need to venture back over to the mainland until it was time to leave so would thoroughly recommend this perfect cottage to anyone - Helen and Allison, the owners, were great too - we were greeted and shown around and communication before and during our holiday was spot on. 5 Stars all round!

Beautiful Cottage, Amazing View and Everything We Could Have Wished For!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was absolutely lovely and contained everything we could ask for. It was decorated beautifully and was very clean. The bed was very comfy.

The views from the garden over the bay are excellent and the dogs loved running round in the safe enclosed space.

The Isle of Bute was perfect for a lovely summer holiday, Ettrick Bay and Scalpsie beach are both amazing sandy beaches perfect for the kids to play on. Scalpsie also has a lot of seals with which you can get up close.

We will definitely be back.

A beautiful and tranquil place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a fantastic week here. Helen met us upon arrival at the cottage and showed us around. The cottage is light and airy, well-maintained and spotless, with spectacular views over the bay - stunning sunsets over the hills. Bedrooms are of a good size with ample wardrobe space in hall and plenty of drawer space in bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding and towels were of very good quality. We used the cottage as a base for exploring Bute, hill walking by day and relaxing in these lovely surroundings at night. The cottage is situated an ideal distance from Rothesay and is on the main bus route providing access to some of the island's wonderful bays. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and we look forward to returning.

Bogany Cottage Isle of Bute

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at our holiday cottage and it was everything as described in the brochure and more. Inside the cottage was well layed out, garden was neat and tidy and well kept. Helen was there to meet us and gave us a good welcome. Nice view from cottage window and watching the sun sink over the mountains across the bay was superb.

The town of Rothsay appeared run down and shabby in places but the gardens and seafront were well maintained and clean,

the ferry crossings were regular and to time and the staff on board and at the dockside were really helpful and friendly. The folks on this island were a real pleasure to talk to and very helpful. There are beautiful views around the island, the council run gardens and the fernery are a must. Good walking and cycling if you like that thing, traffic very considerate.

If you require a quiet and relaxing holiday I can recommend this, had a really pleasant stay and would recommend to friends and family.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage is warm and cosy. The under-floor heating is very efficient with individual thermostats in every room, there is also the advantage of the log burner. The combined sitting room and kitchen, with vaulted ceiling, make this a very sociable arrangement. Good sized, fully enclosed garden is excellent for outside dining in the summer and very child friendly. There is ample private parking for several cars.
