Le Vieux Chalonge is nestled in the beautiful countryside on the Normandy/Brittany border in a very private setting. Ideal for families or friends, the accommodation includes 2 properties for exclusive use, the main farmhouse with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, open plan kitchen/dining room and cozy lounge and the snug gite with separate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge. Much of the original character of the properties has been retained, including beamed ceilings and lime rendered walls, yet it incorporates all modern conveniences such as high-speed wireless internet, French and UK Freeview TV, comprehensive digital film library, fully equipped kitchens and a laundry room. The full-size in ground swimming pool is heated to a comfortable 28 degrees and children are well catered for with a separate kids play den and outside play area. In a beautiful private country setting, yet only a few minutes from the lively market town of St James with all amenities. Many major attractions (Mont St Michel, adventure parks, golf, historic towns) and great beaches within easy reach. A perfect location to enjoy a relaxing holiday with family and friends.

We have had a glorious week spent in this gite. So wonderfully welcoming and homely. We loved sitting by the fire every evening and enjoying the facilities. Everything was thought of, we found everything here we needed. And thank you for the basket of goodies, we shall definitely recommend to friends.

Wonderful home!

Ourselves and another family stayed for October half term. The house was beautiful, owners extremely helpful, leaving us a welcome package of wine and cheese. The house is well appointed with everything you need and more. With 6 children (all boys!) ranging in ages from 3 to 15 they were all well catered for with the play room and children's toys outside. We couldn't have asked for more with this house, it exceeded all expectations. Close to tourist attractions but hidden away with lovely views across the countryside. We loved the quietness of the place. We all loved this place and very much hope to come back. A real home from home....a gem!

Family holiday in France.

A fantastic place to stay, great accommodation and facilities in an extremely lovely part of France. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a very relaxing and beautiful holiday spot. The house and pool was as described by the owners and the pictures show how lovely it really is. A very welcome treat was the owners leaving a welcome pack in the fridge which certainly helped keep the children happy. Great customer service and contact with the owners both before and after the holiday.

One of our best holidays

We really enjoyed our stay here.

The property is out of this world and has everything you need, the property is very secure to our relief as we had a two year old with us and the swimming pool had a locked gate which put us at ease.

Thank you so much for the welcome pack it was well needed by the time we arrived it really was the perfect touch.

We met the owner on two occasions and he was very friendly and couldn't of done any more for us.

We go on holiday a few times a year and this really has been the best to date and will be arranging a return at some point.

What a view and surrounding!

It was a verry beautifull and cosy house. We loved the pool!! (Just the good size and very clean)

Le Vieux Challonge: a place to be!

a very nice farmhouse, very clean. We felt home the moment we came in, thanks to the many warm attentions on arrival. The pool is well orientated and everything you might need is available. Dinan, Saint-Malo, the Mont-Saint-Michel, and more are worth seeing. Great oysters!!!

EXCEPTIONAL HOLIDAY HOME

What an amazing place for us to enjoy our first family holiday together in years. The two houses are perfect - decorated beautifully with excellent furnishings, very comfortable beds, a playroom, a laundry room and the added extra's - sky TV, Video's, Library and the best Tourist Information i've ever come across in France and The Welcome Pack was so generous - Thank You for that. The outside areas were fantastic especially for our three grandchildren - a garden playground with toys that they loved and little places for them to explore and the safe pool area - WOW we loved this pool and the pool room had blow up toys and large fluffy towels. The location is so peaceful but only a few mins drive from Saint James where there are supermarkets and a fantastic boulanger. Most of our visits were child friendly - 20/30 mins drive away was ALLIGATOR BAY - turtles, crocs and alligators - it was great. L'ANGE MICHEL an amusement park especially for the little ones with a great hands on farm - loved this. PARC FLORAL DE HAUTE BRETAGNE - a really beautiful botanic gardens with 2 mazes and CHAMPREPUS ZOO - a lovely day out with a good restaurant. We also visited MONT SAINT MICHEL - DOL de BRETAGNE - MONT DOL - great for the children with a good picnic area/playgound and Creparie - drive right up to the Windmill for parking. Many thanks to Max and Katja - this property is EXCEPTIONAL and we highly recommend it as a fantastic place to enjoy northern Brittany - all the family loved it.

Coast/Beach:

Beautiful sandy beaches on the southern Normandy peninsula and coves around Dinard and St Malo, closest around 30km. Our particular favourite is Carolles

Travel:

Le Vieux Chalonge is conveniently located for many of the Normandy/Brittany ferry ports, St Malo is the closest (60km), but Cherbourg and Caen are both within 90 minutes drive. Le Havre 2 hours, Dieppe 3 hours and Calais 4-5 hours drive.

Closest airport is Dinard 65km away with convenient flights from Stansted, East Midlands and Leeds/Bradford airports in the UK. Rennes and Caen airports also easily accessible.

Further Details:

Huge range of activities including great country walks, cycling, fishing at local lakes/rivers or at the sea, local golf courses, canoeing, mini golf, tennis and horse-riding.

The coast is only a short drive away (30 minutes) with beautiful sandy beaches and a gradual slope into the sea ideal for children.

Visit the numerous local markets with great local produce, ideal for buying fresh ingredients for your family meals.

There are a number of fun parks, zoos, an alligator park and aquarium nearly for all the family to enjoy.

The historic Mont St Michel with its beautiful cobbled streets and hilltop abbey is only 30 minutes away. Local towns worth visiting include Cancale with oyster banks and seafront restaurants, the walled city of St Malo, Rennes the capital of Brittany, Fougeres with the largest medieval castle in Europe, Avranches a town steeped in history from 1066 to 1945. A little further away you can visit the Normandy landing beaches and the medieval town of Bayeux with its famous tapestry.
