In a charming, historic village, this stone-built, 15th century former presbytery, opposite a church on the village square, is full of character with exposed stone walls, massive beams and tiled floors. It is a spacious and well-equipped house (including free wi-fi and UK Freeview TV channels), and enjoys a private swimming pool in its pretty, enclosed garden. The Presbytère is an excellent holiday base to enjoy village life and explore this spectacular region. Vieux is set in rural landscape of rolling hills, vineyards, fields of sunflowers, châteaux and fortified hilltop ‘bastide’ towns (including Cordes-sur-Ciel). The Tarn Region encompasses rivers, dramatic Aveyron and Tarn gorges and vast forested areas. Nearby activities include horse riding, canoeing, tennis and sailing. There is a good range of shops and facilities 3km away at Cahuzac-sur-Vère. The nearest large town is Gaillac, with its lively markets, supermarkets, wine centre (enjoy sampling wines made from regional grape varieties), ‘apero’ concerts and other summer activities. About the Owner

We are relatively new owners of this house in France and whilst we plan to use the house ourselves, we are keen to rent it out as well.

The owners are a couple who live in the UK and the sister of one of the owners who lives in New York City. We bought the house from a British couple who owned it for over 15 years. We hope to make the home as comfortable for you as it is for us and to provide you with everything you need while on holiday.

Wonderful home in great location

We have just returned from a fabulous , and very hot , 2 weeks at this lovely holiday house. All the arrangements were fantastic, we were welcomed by lovely local people - and with local wine and cheese. The house is very comfortable with lots of space, a fully equipped kitchen, - (a great tv for watching the Olympics - with UK stations) - lovely bedrooms and bathrooms and all immaculate. The outside space is generous and lots of shade, which we needed during our hot 2 weeks. We went on day trips to Albi and many of the local Bastide hill top villages - and fell in love with this unexplored part of France. Enjoyed the Vide Grenier and games of boules in the square and enjoyed the village centre location. Excellent contact with owner who generously answered my queries. We were 6 adults aged 26 - 84 years in age - and enjoyed the pool, BBQs, bike rides and are now enjoying Gaillac wine at home and plotting our return. If you had small children the pool is safely fenced off. We enjoyed the pool even though it is not heated - but we were there during a heatwave !

Beautiful and unique property that suited us perfectly

We had a wonderful stay at the Presbytery after driving to get there through sunflower fields. Situated on the village square, there was an amazing summer festival on on the night we arrived with paella and bands playing. A lovely welcome. The house is huge with so many original features and a massive wide staircase. It suited us and the extended family so well as all rooms have ensuite bathrooms and everyone had enough space to not feel on top of each other. We had 3 children with us aged 7 and two aged 2 and they loved the pool as it was a good depth and had a gate for security so the kids could run in the garden, which was next to the pool area, so safely.

The rooms were all decorated to a very high standard with lovely shutters to keep the heat out when required.

There was so much to do in the area that we ran out of time to do it all! We visited vineyards for tasting sessions, outdoor markets in beautiful towns like St Antonin for food and crafts and Rabastans for antiques. Chateau de Mauriac was stunning where my friend got married while we were there. We'd love to come back to explore some more.

Delightful escape in undeveloped area of France

Le Presbytere is a charming property nestled in the heart of a small village. I love it's solidity - and it's a very easy house to live and relax in. The owners have taken a lot of trouble in decorating it and equipping it well. They are also very supportive in helping you to get the most out of your holiday. I've been here twice already to host Retreats for women who need a break from the usual multi-tasking routine. This property and the region is just perfect for that. I know there are plans to heat the pool and this will be a very welcome addition.

A delightful 2 weeks in La Presbytere

This delightful charming presbytery across from the church in the village square coped perfectly with our large group of 10 people (2 families). The house was very well equipped, the kitchen is well designed for several people to be active cooking and preparing at the same time. The gardens are charming, the outdoor BBQ area is spacious and shaded by beautiful trees. The gas BBQ is high quality and works well. The showers all worked really well, even when several were in use at the same time. The pool would benefit from being heated so it could be used more but was very refreshing when the temperatures soared.

The owners were really helpful with our pre-visit support and couldn't do enough for us.

As for the area...well, it almost seems a shame to spoil a new visitors experience by saying anything. Suffice to say it's simply delightful in every respect. We've visited much of France over the years but this region has something very special. We will be back.

Quit holiday in rural France

A beautiful house in charming setting on the village square. No facilities in the village but plenty are close by. The house is clean and comfortable with a large kitchen and plenty of seating inside and out. Internet access and satellite TV a bonus, although no mobile phone reception. Pool area not overlooked and pool is refreshing on hot days if not a little cold on others! Would suit families as there is plenty of space for everyone - there were just two of us so we had a choice of bedrooms which are all comfortable and well appointed. Overall a very pleasant stay and a relaxing holiday.

Brilliant Holiday Home ideal for families

We had a lovely holiday and a great family get together with three families meeting together from all parts of France. This was a very good, well laid out spacious and comfortable property with a lovely garden and private pool in an idyllic location. The front of the property looks out onto the tranquil church square. The house has a really nice homely feel with a well equipped kitchen and utility, very comfortable beds and all the bedrooms have very good quality en-suites, one of which has just been fully refurbished with a lovely double shower! It is ideal for families as the garden is split so that the pool is separate and secure for children's use. Older children would love the large attic room at the top of the house complete with it's own TV, wifi and en-suite. The unheated pool is great to use on really hot days but a little chilly on cloudy days. Super wifi connectivity and and excellent TV/DVD setup. Clean and well maintained throughout with good pre-stay information from very friendly and helpful owners, who, although they have just bought the house are doing a brilliant job and with their team of staff, look after you well. Comprehensive information in the house on what to do locally. We were lucky enough to be there for for the Vieux Fete in the square outside our door, over two nights with lovely music, food and wine with the locals in the square - we all loved it especially the children, it was the highlight for a 3 and 6 year old and something they will always remember. The paella on the second night - big enough for 200 people was one of the best we have ever tasted. We would definitely recommend this property to all our friends and family and go again ourselves.

We were just sitting down to have breakfast one morning while staying with some friends who have a house in Cordes-sur-Ciel in July, 2014. Our friend had gone to pick up some croissants and came back, announcing that he had just seen a beautiful house advertised in an estate agent's window. Next thing we knew, we had arranged to see the house and two days later, we put in an offer. We absolutely love the house and the region, with its fields of sunflowers and vineyards. The people are so friendly and the markets are amazing. A truly wonderful part of France.

Special interest holidays:

Midi-Pyrenees offers splendid facilities for wine-tasting, cycling and canoeing. The nearby town of St Antonin has one of the best regional Sunday markets in the South of France.


Toulouse Airport is only 45 minutes drive away by an excellent standard motorway.


Gaillac, the centre of the wine region, is 15 minutes away. Albi, with its world-famous red brick cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec museum is 20 minutes by car.

Cordes-sur-Ciel which was voted one of France's most beautiful villages, is also 20 minutes away by car.

The house is very easy to get to, being just 45 minutes drive from Toulouse airport. It's in a beautiful, quiet little village but is only 3km from Cahuzac-sur-Vere where you can buy all necessities; only 15 minutes from Gaillac and 20 minutes from the historic city of Albi. There is so much to do in the region - walking, cycling, canoeing, sightseeing (historic cave paintings), browsing through the antique shops and wonderful markets. On the other hand, the house offers all of the comforts of home with a private pool, WiFi, Netflix and all the things you might feel you can't live without while on holiday.
