About the Owner

Paul & I live in Newcastleton at Yethouse, our other self catering property above the village. Since starting in 2009 we have hosted over 2,000 guests and look forward to welcoming many more.

We love meeting new people and showing them our small wee village and what it has to offer. Many have returned time and again.

We are proud to have been chosen as a small wedding venue and particularly love it when the sun shines and we are able to marry couples under the fruit arbour in the garden. We look forward to welcoming you to enjoy the village and its hospitality soon, if there is anything further you need to know please do get in touch. barbara@dalkeith-house.com

Family Birthday Celebration

  • 5 of 5

Dalkeith House is a beautiful Georgian House with a nice garden in the lovely village of Newcastleton. It is exceptionally well maintained and the owners have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. We came for a family birthday with some family staying in the house and others staying in hotels just along the road. We spent a great afternoon doing activities at Rock UK about a mile away - zip wires private hire of pool etc and in the evening a buffet was provided by local caterers Copshaw Kitchen. They served drinks and canapés in the entrance hall which was perfect for a large gathering and making toasts from the beautiful staircase. Food was great and better still all the washing up taken care of!

This is a great venue for a celebration or a relaxing holiday. Plenty of room in the house - lovely large sitting room and TV /games room for the kids. Photos don't really do the house justice. Lovely walks locally and a golf course at edge of village.

We have stayed in a lot of luxury houses and villas but this is definitely one of the best. We had a great time and Barbara the owner was very helpful with the organisation of our celebration. We will definitely be back.

Fabulous Holiday!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic holiday had by all at Dalkeith House. This s truly 5star accommodation and caters for every need, nothing at all has been forgotten! Fabulous walks and cycles. Newcastleton has amazingly friendly locals. We had drinks in the hotels and The Trap and also ate in both the Olive Tree and the Copshaw Kitchen. Absolutely gorgeous food, would definitely recommend. The welcome lemon drizzle cake was appreciated also the butcher’s sausage rolls were the tastiest we have ever had! Will definitely revisit this amazing property, thank you Barbara.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to post a review for us. Everyone will be pleased to know we have converted our guests into 'Copshee folk' - the vernacular used by locals after our old village name of Copshaw Holm! Delighted the house met your expectations and that our wee village met all your needs. We were happy to have you all and look forward to a return visit, Elliots the butcher needs advance warning to make more sausage rolls! Regards B

A beautiful house - didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking forward to seeing the house after the photos made it look so beautiful. We weren't disappointed! Dalkeith House is a fantastic place to stay with the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, the garden is a peaceful sun trap and the living areas are superb. Our boys especially enjoyed the games room with X-box and huge tv.

We spent two half days at Whitehaugh Park taking part in adventurous activities - highly recommended. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. The Copshaw Kitchen was superb, both for evening meal and take away.

A highly recommended destination for a short break!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review for us, your feedback is much appreciated. I will pass on your comments to Rock UK and Copshaw Kitchen. The house is fab but the best time is when great experiences happen, our village offers a multitude of those, you just need to come back and experience some more! Best wishes to all. B

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful Georgian house with all modern amenities made for an excellent venue for a reunion of friends for a long weekend. The house was loved by young and old alike with the kids loving the TV/ games room and the adults the drawing room with log burner. The entrance hallway and stairwell is particularly stunning and a first class Sonos sound system throughout the public rooms certainly added to the enjoyment of our stay. The village itself was a real gem in the Scottish Borders with plenty of choice of eateries and take away establishments for such a rural location. It was also a great half way location for our group who were half from the east and half from the west coast. A fantastic weekend was had by all.

Golden Celebration

  • 5 of 5

Barbara showed us round Dalkeith House whilst we were staying at The Yethouse, 3 years ago. We were so impressed, we kept it on file, and had no hesitation in booking (nearly 2 years ago) as part of our Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrations. What a sound decision!!!!

Dalkeith House is magnificent. The décor, furnishings, and equipment are absolutely superb. Ten adults, plus 2 infants, plus 2 further adults staying at the Liddesdale hotel had a fabulous weekend enjoying the spacious accommodation to the full. We prepared and cooked a superb family dinner ( smoked salmon, roast sirloin of beef, Sevillle bread and butter pudding, extensive cheese board, and accompanying drinks etc) with complete ease, and the dining room afforded all 14 of us plenty of space.

Dalkeith House is THE IDEAL place to visit for such an event, and Barbara's help, and attention to detail, both within the house, and in making arrangements, was much appreciated. Our family have been enjoying self catering holidays for approaching 20 years now' but Dalkeith House is unquestionably the best we have had the pleasure of staying in!!

A celebration 40th

  • 5 of 5

We booked Dalkeith House after reading all the wonderful reviews of this property on the various travel websites. We were a group of 11 adults consisting of friends and family, all looking to celebrate a 40th birthday in style. We also wanted to be close to an outdoor activity centre and surrounded by beautiful scenery with lots of interesting walks. We were not disappointed! Dalkeith House is spacious, bright, full of original charm and most of all, unbelievably comfortable especially the beds, which are luxurious. It's warm and there's plenty of hot water. Yet, cleverly, this property is modern and bang up-to-date with all the latest in tv and gaming consoles. The owners have managed to retain its character throughout whilst providing all the best quality gadgets, devices and equipment especially in the kitchen, where there is everything you can possibly need. The garden to the rear of the property is beautiful with views of the hills beyond. There is plenty of parking space all on flat ground, right outside the front of the house too.

Nothing was too much trouble for the owners Barbara and Paul, who made our stay a very enjoyable one.

Rock UK, a mile or so up the road, were fantastic and gave us all a great day out kayaking and high roping, ending with two, long zip wires through the forest - a thrilling experience not to be missed!

I cannot praise this house and owners, its location and the surrounding scenery and facilities enough! Hermitage Castle is a 'must see' about 5 miles away and Kilder water and Dam, about 15 miles away, is well worth a visit too! Our whole weekend was a huge success! We will definitely book again! Thank you

Location

From the Owner

Dalkeith House used to be the one of the village manse' and is significantly bigger then the church is was linked too! It has had a varied history since being rebuilt in circa 1850, its most recent claim to fame was as part of the Barbour factory. The top floor used to house about 30 machinists who sat by the very large windows giving extra light, sewing with wares. It now has 5 very large double bedrooms and 4 bathrooms instead!

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester at 90 Miles Nearest Barpub : hop, skip and a jump! Nearest Ferry : Newcastle or Edinburgh at 60 Miles Nearest Golf : can see the 3rd tee from the window! Nearest Train : Carlisle at 20 Miles Nearest Motorway : M6, M74 at 20 Miles Nearest Restaurant : hop, skip and a jump! Nearest Beach : Solway 30 mins at 20 Miles Car: recommended

Newcastleton is off the beaten track but once you find us you wont need to leave unless you want bright lights and designer shopping! Nestled in the Liddesdale valley it is known locally as Copshaw Holm and was founded in 1793 by the Duke of Buccleuch. Not much has changed since then but we do have broadband and mobile phone cover!

The village is perfect for families or friends spread north and south, east or west as we are located only 30 minutes drive from the M6/M74 corridor making it very accessible.

Surrounded by the Liddesdale hills it is the perfect spot to catch your breathe, relax and rejuvenate.
