House in Northam, nr Appledore, Westward Ho! Bideford, North Devon, England - Peaceful Location, Stunning Views, 5 Min Drive To Beach, Hear The Sea At Night

Modern, open house overlooking the sea, all across the bay to Saunton Sands with additional river views across to Instow. Newly renovated in modern Scandinavian style with wooden floors and brand new open plan kitchen, this is a very relaxing abode. Double doors open out from kitchen onto the south facing sun trap garden. Perfect for families as we have high chair, booster seat, potty, toys, cot and trampoline in garden. High speed wifi available.

Sleeps 5 - 6. This is a 3 bedroom house (plus games room) including two double rooms - one with a king size bed and one with a double bed and cot. The third room contains a single bed with a pull out mattress underneath. House is at the end of a road so no through traffic, aside from immediate (and very friendly) neighbours.

Fabulous balcony to front of house for dining overlooking the sea, with private south facing garden to rear. Trampoline to keep kids happy whilst you sunbathe on the lounger. We have a private drive with room for 3 cars, no through traffic.

5 minute drive to beach, 10 minute walk to shops. Bars and restaurants of Westward Ho! are a 25 minute walk away, or drive to gorgeous Appledore in 5 minutes.

This really is a lovely light and airy house. The views and open plan living space make it perfect for a relaxed family getaway. Condiments available in the kitchen, and books to read on the shelves. Read our reviews and come and discover Devon yourself!

Fabulous modern house

Thank you Jo & Dan for allowing us to have a fabulous 2 week stay in your beautiful house on the North Devon coast.

The house is light & airy and the open plan living space was ideal to keep an eye on 2 small children!! The kitchen was well equipped and the pantry well stocked with herbs & spices should you need them. My kids (aged 5 & 1) loved the trampoline in the sunny enclosed back garden and the toys available to play with. Supervision of small children is needed in the back garden as there is a reasonable drop from the sloped grassed area down to the concrete patio with only a rope 'fence' as a barrier (which isn't very stable), but this was highlighted in the welcome pack and, as a parent, hopefully common sense prevails!!

There is a washing machine and tumble dryer available for use, though I never managed to work out whether there was a washing line anywhere....the rope barrier and the bannister at the top of the stairs served as a suitable back up instead :)

We walked everywhere, so the fact that the house sits at the top of a hill (and then at the top of a steep driveway!) kept us all fit for the 2 weeks! The blue flag Westward Ho! beach is about a 20/25 min walk, Appledore about 45 mins (timings with a 5 year old walking as well). Plenty of other great places to visit only a short drive away, so this house is a fabulous base for a fabulous holiday.

A Lovely Place To Stay

We had a wonderful holiday in Jo and Dan's comfortable, well-equipped, light, bright and spacious house and really enjoyed the lovely views of the sea and the sky. The property is ideally located for exploring the beautiful beaches in this part of Devon.

I'd recommend this relaxing holiday home to my friends and we'd love to return here one day.

Beautifully presented and well equipped

Perfect for stays with a small child as all on one level once you are up the stairs from the entry (with stairgate). The location is a few minutes drive from Westward Ho! beach. For those who like cooking (which I do) the kitchen is very well equipped and it is a joy to eat at the kitchen island whilst enjoying the view across the balcony to the beach after a hard day's play

Wonderful place to stay, so close to lots of the b

We loved staying at this house. The views were beautiful, the house is in a residential area in Northam on a hill. It is very spacious and airy decorated in a modern 'fresh' way, lots of white walls and crisp white cotton bedding with lovely splashes of colour. The kitchen and lounge are open plan which means you can all stay together whilst cooking and watching tv (only drawback is no Sky tv or did player but in hindsight not really needed on holiday). The kitchen was well equipped with every utensil you could need. Also has a larder with lots of condiments you can use, lovely cookbooks I spent time browsing. There are literally dozens of other great books on the bookshelf in the lounge too. We had 3 bedrooms which was ample for a family of 4 plus a small dog, lots of storage space which I find important. I liked the entrance way too which is a hall on the lower floor, then a staircase leads to the living area all on the second floor. The garden is great too. Very near to Westward Ho and the beautiful fishing village of Appledore. All in all a lovely place to stay and I would recommend, would definitely go back.

Fantastic house

The property is perfect for families with it's fantastic views, airy rooms and appliances. The children in particular spent hours drawing on the blackboard which is the full size of one kitchen wall.

From the Owner

We love the beach life, and enjoy all the landscape has to offer on a daily basis by surfing, windsurfing, beach runs and long dog walks followed by pub lunches. Our house is secluded at the end of a road so feels private and remote, and overlooks the village. We have great sea views and overlook the sea all the way to Saunton Sands. At the back of the house we have a private garden which we developed when we renovated, so is now a great sun trap with two sun loungers and outdoor shower. We love the privacy of our house, as well as the epic views.

Activity and Interests


5 min drive to beach, or 30 - 40 min walk. Westward Ho! beach is a large family and dog friendly beach offering surf and SUP lessons, canoe hire, Kite surfing and windsurfing. 5 minute drive to Appledore which is a cute village offering array of pubs, shops and cafes. Crabbing and fishing, boat trips etc.


Barnstaple train station 15 min drive, Tiverton Parkway train station 1 hour drive. Exeter/Bristol airport 1.5 hours drive.


5 min drive to Westward Ho! 5 min drive to Appledore. 5 min drive to Bideford. 15 min drive to Barnstaple. 30 min drive to Braunton, Croyde, Saunton Sands, 40 min drive to Ilfracombe.

Further Details:

Lovely pubs and restaurants nearby. Pig on the Hill is family friendly with farm animals and park onsite. It's a 3 min drive, or cycle there in 20 mins, walk in 30 mins.

Memories is an esteemed restaurant in Northam Square (10 min walk).

Appledore and Westward Ho! also have great cafes and restaurants to choose from.
