Apartment in Cala En Porter, Menorca, Balearic Islands - Peaceful Location Yet Close To The Village Centre

First Floor apartment set in the Siesta Mar 1 complex with large pool and small children's pool amongst well maintained gardens. Quiet yet central location, close to beach and all the resort bars and restaurants. Sleeps 4 (2 bedrooms). Ideal for families and couples.

The roomy lounge / dining area leads on to the large west facing terrace which has the sun for most of the day. The two bedrooms both have doors leading to the smaller east facing terrace which overlooks the pool and has the benefit of the morning sunshine but is nicely shaded from the sun in the afternoon making a perfect peaceful place to relax with a book.

I have been taking holidays in Menorca for about 25 years now, so I guess I like the place!

Living and working in the north east of England I have a keen interest in motor boats and keep a cruiser in the marina at Hartlepool. Approaching retirement age I decided that now was a good time to buy a place in Menorca with the dream that one day the boat will be moored in Mahon.

In the mean time I am happy to share my apartment with a few guests.

I bought in Cala En Porter because it ticks all the boxes for a family holiday in Menorca. It has an excellent sandy beach together with a wide choice of bars and restaurants.

It is a short taxi journey from the airport and there is a good bus service to Mahon meaning that it is not necessary to hire a car.

Lovely place......

We stayed here for 9 nights and can honestly say we had nothing to complain about. Here you will find everything you need for your holiday, including extra bedding for those travelling in the cooler months to huge ceiling fans for the warmer times. The apartment is lovely & clean and well maintained with 2 balconies equipped with tables & chairs, the front large balcony is lovely to sit & enjoy breakfast and early evening whilst enjoying a drink watching the sun go down. During the day it gets full sun and if you are having a lazy day there are even a couple of sunloungers to stretch out on. Alternatively the steps down to the beach are a couple of minutes along the road & even closer is the pool that is literally out the back - the rear balcony overlooks the pool too.

The apartment is located in a quiet location on a complex that is well maintained and the centre of the town with all its bars and good choice of restaurants are only a five minutes walk - it is a little hilly so think of your feet / shoes ladies.....

There is also a DVD player available for those times when you cant get out or simply just want to do nothing and a hairdryer for those of us who need one.

For those soggy swimsuits or simply just keeping the towels fresh there is also an airer & if you need to do a load of washing there is a launderette located at the entrance of the sister complex across the road.

We dealt direct with the owner who is more that happy to give you as much info as he can to make your stay as enjoyed as possible.

Overall, all I can say is we found it comfortable and homely so much so my other half said all that was missing was the sport on the TV......

Perfect apartment in every way..Fantastic Location

Just got back from a two week stay in this apartment, excellent in every way, the location was perfect, just up from the beach and the pool just a stones throw from the back, but far enough away not to get any noise. Having two balconies was great the large front one is good for the sun and gets very hot, the back one is shaded during the evening when you need a little time out of the sun.

We found it very clean and comfortable, just the right amount of extras to get away from it all. Communication with the owner was brill.

Siesta Mar I

We are still in this wonderful apartment and having a great holiday. It is everything...and a little bit more than advertised. It is spacious inside and out and has a much bigger terrace than we had realised. This was an important factor in booking actually, so it was a bonus. The pool is just great, at the rear of the apartment and can be seen from the bedroom windows and the balcony at the back, which is a sun trap in the morning! It is within easy reach of the village centre and very close to a bus stop which takes you into Mahon (Mao) in less than half an hour. We've taken a few bus trips already - went to Mahon->Ciutadella yesterday. I considered hiring a car, which I would have been confident doing as it's a piece of cake driving here, but decided I wanted a drive-free break. Cala en Porter is quite hilly in parts. I wouldn't let that put anyone off though. This apartment is very close to the centre and all its eateries. We have eaten in a few of them and haven't had a bad meal yet. Most of the cafes/restaurants have WiFi for anyone who requires that. The apartment doesn't have internet access so I took my own (dongle), but I have rarely used it. There is a monitor with dvd player here (not advertised) but I had taken our own dvds to watch in the evenings, on the laptop too.

The owner, Eddie, was very helpful and answered any queries I had prior to coming out here (and I did have a LOT of queries). This put my mind at rest as I had never booked independently before.

Cala En Porter is a wonderful resort and I'm glad I chose it. It's scenically beautiful, is clean and the people here are some of the most friendly and hospitable people I've ever met. It's been the same all over Menorca too. I feel very at home here and I'd come back in a heartbeat. I'd even go as far as to say that I would consider moving here!

I bought in Cala En Porter because it ticks all the boxes for a family holiday in Menorca. It has an excellent sandy beach together with a wide choice of bars and restaurants. It is a short taxi journey from the airport and there is a good bus service to Mahon meaning that it is not necessary to hire a car.

Activity and Interests


Cala En Porter has a beautiful safe, sandy, gently sloping beach which is just a 10 minute walk from the apartment. There are about 180 steps down the cliff to the beach or you can walk down the road to the beach, which is also a bit easier on the feet and heart rate on the way back up!

An ideal beach for chidren which has just a gentle slope into the sea. Sun loungers, parasols, pedaloes and canoes can be hired. A lifeguard is also in attendance.


Mahon airport is about 15 minutes drive or taxi ride away. Car hire is not necessary as there is a good bus service to Mahon. However, if you want to see more of this wonderful island car hire is recommended. Alternatively, the local supermarket lays on regular coach excursions.


Sant Climent the nearest village is just a 10 minute drive en route to Mahon. Mahon, the capital is a 20 minute drive or about 30 minutes on the bus. Alaior, a wonderful example of a traditional town with its narrow streets and coffee shops is just 15 minutes by car. Ciutadella, the old capital is about 50 minutes by car has a magnificent harbour with harbourside bars and restaurants. Fornells, a very scenic fishing village famous for its seafood restaurants is about 30 minutes by car.

Further Details:

There aren’t many nightclubs on the island, but there is one in Cala En Porter. The Cova d’Xoroi caves offers late nightclub entertainment yet it’s cliffside location means it does not disturb anyone. For those wanting to party, the Cova is a disco by night, where you can dance away until dawn. A cafe bar by day, you can visit and enjoy the magnificent views across the Mediterranean. On a clear day you can see the mountains of Majorca.

The capital Mahon is 15km away, 20 mins in car, fantastic port, take a trip around the harbour on one of glass bottomed boats where you will also get a canned history of the Nelson days.

Next door to Mahon, Cala Fonts in Es Castell is another little port, very pretty with shops and restaurants where you can sit and watch the world go by!

  • Notes on accommodation: The apartments are set in beautiful gardens where there is also a fully equipped children's play area. There is natural shade from the trees around the pool area. Well suited to families with children who can enjoy the large swimming and pool and adjacent children's pool. The apartment is strictly non smoking. Outside: The apartment has two balconies, one to the rear overlooking the pool with a small table and two chairs. The front balcony is larger with a larger table and 6 chairs and is ideal for outdoor eating. The communal pool is directly behind the apartment overlooked by the rear balcony. There is a children's play area adjacent to the pool. The gardens and pool area are very well kept and maintained to high standards. The apartment is equipped with 2 folding sunbeds for guests to use on the balcony or around the pool and gardens. There is no supervision or lifeguards around the pool and gardens. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen together with bath, hand and tea towels are provide fresh for each arrival and on multi-week lets a change is made at 7 day intervals. Please bring your own towels for use at the pool or the beach. Other: There are double doors leading from the lounge to the large front patio which has table and chairs and ample space for al fresco dining. Each bedroom has it's own access to the rear patio where you can overlook the pool and gardens.
