Luxurious Modern Large Barn With Private Heated Salt Water Pool + Garden & WIFI

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Barn in Les Junies, Lot, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Luxurious Modern Large Barn With Private Heated Salt Water Pool With Large Garden & WIFI

THE BARN

La Grange à la Fontaine has been lovingly converted into a beautiful large modern luxurious home in the tranquil village of La Masse in the heart of the countryside, but still only 5 minutes away from Prayssac, a bustling market town with everything you could want, including boulangeries, restaurants, large supermarkets and banks etc, and of course markets. The barn is just a 2 minute drive to Castelfranc where you can swim in the river Lot. Also there is a lovely restaurant. Swimming lakes and man-made beaches with pedaloe fun boats, canoes, children's playgrounds, restaurant, tennis courts etc are available at Catus and Cazals, which are about 15 minutes away, where you can also indulge your passion for fishing.

The beautiful city of Cahors is about 20 minutes away with it's wealth of history, shops, markets and restaurants etc.

La Grange itself is luxuriously furnished, extremely well equipped and tastefully decorated throughout and is set in about an acre of garden with an abundance of fruit trees. It is accessed through a private gated entrance and has ample private parking. The barn has beautiful views of the surrounding hills & valley in which it sits. On entering the barn, there is a piano and leather sofa and the beautiful 'floating' stairs that will lead you up to the large, beamed and open plan kitchen area. The modern kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave and a Falcon range cooker, as well as everything else you could want. Also upstairs are the large and comfy dining and lounge areas, with ample seating and wood burner....and then on to the Master suite.

The Master suite can be a luxurious and extremely spacious room for 2, or can be used as a family suite as it has a king size bed, and also a large convertible day bed and leaves ample room for a cot or even a guest bed. The master suite has wooden floors, exposed beams and stone walls, luxurious open-plan en-suite facilities that include an elegant roll-top bath, hand basin, toilet and mirror. There are 3 double wardrobes, additional furniture and views over the gardens and the surrounding hills and valley.

Also on this floor is bedroom 2, with a double bed along with a contemporary en suite shower room that includes a modern large glass fronted shower, integrated hand basin, toilet, heated towel rail and mirror. There are triple wardrobes. This bedroom looks out onto the fountain and square of La Masse.

Downstairs, off of the hall, there is the third double bedroom with an en suite shower. This bedroom has a double bed and is on the ground floor and has a tiled floor, triple wardrobes and modern en suite facilities which include a beautiful natural stone and tiled, walk-in shower and heated wall-mounted towel rail. This bedroom could house a cot or guest bed if required.

Also on the ground floor there is a toilet and utility room with a washing machine.

A cot can be provided upon request. All bedrooms come with ample towels and bedding.

COURTYARD, GARDEN AND POOL AREA

About our pool

We have made a conscious decision to have an above ground pool as we, as parents and grandparents, have had many holidays spoiled by not being able to have all of the children join in with the fun, and our pool being all at the same depth, allows children to feel that they can stay within their own safety zone and because we have a special safety ladder, you can instantly deny access to very young children, which means that you do not have to worry about whether your child has strayed in to an unguarded pool, giving you peace of mind. We also chose the healthier option of making the pool salt water, which is better for the hair and skin, but at the same time is not at all like being in the sea (the salt ratio of our pool is 4,000 parts per million and sea water is 50,000 parts per million) All of our guests, and please see our reviews, have said what a pleasure the pool was to use. In addition to the above safety features, the pool is as big as most in ground pools and can of course still be used for swimmers who would like to swim lengths, as the pool is 8.1m long and is 4.6m wide and 1.2m deep. In addition to the above, the pool has the benefit of being heated by a solar panel. Our pool has been tastefully blended in to it's surrounding environment by careful planting etc.

Outside there is a large courtyard with a barbecue. There are sunbeds next to the pool. The pool is available from May to the end of September. A sand pit along with pool toys and inflatables are also supplied.

There is a covered, 'shabby chic' outside dining and large comfy seating area in the courtyard. This is a great space for eating or lazing around reading a book in the shade and can be used all year round.

The garden covers over 1 acre and you can play games, but you can also regularly see deer feeding in the garden and if you are lucky enough to be with us at certain times of the year, they will bring their young fawns with them.

Although we are a strictly 'non smoking' house, smoking is permitted in the grounds of the barn. The barn has been designed to offer luxury accommodation for singles, couples and families of all ages to enable you have a great holiday in a very beautiful part of France.

Please note: As for elderly or infirm guests, the access to the house is on level ground with two shallow steps before the entrance in to the house. Once inside, there is a bedroom at ground floor level, with a walk-in shower. All other facilities, like the dining area, kitchen and lounge are on the 1st floor, which are accessed via the stairs shown in the photo section. It is your responsibility to inform us, in advance of booking, of any special requirements of any member of your party, so that we can let you know the suitability of the barn for your party. We provide a welcome pack.

WIFI is accessible in ALL areas of the barn and also outside in the courtyard and around the pool.

Local Interest: La Grange à la Fontaine is situated in the very picturesque hamlet of La Masse. We have an interesting 12th Century Church and Saracen Chimney. The church features the most unusual frescoes of the Seven Deadly Sins. La Masse is part of the commune of Les Junies (where you can find a beautiful 14th century château and church). Also within the valley in which La Masse sits, there was an important neolithic settlement (there is now a marked walk called Circuit des Dolmens). We are also situated near the historic town of Cahors, with it's world-famous and beautiful fortified bridge, the 14th-century 'Pont Valentre,' which spans the river Lot and is indeed the symbol of Cahors. It is the only fortified bridge in the world with three towers and is mentioned in Dante’s “Inferno”. There is also an internationally famous annual Blues festival.

Local activities: We recommend exploring the River Lot from the water. There are many river boat trips and boats for hire, including canoeing and kayaking. Other popular sporting activities in the area are rambling, golf, mountain biking and horse riding. Prayssac is our nearest town, at 5km which has weekly markets and large supermarkets, with everything you could want There is also a Post Office and banks amongst a number of other shops and restaurants. La Masse is also close to the medieval town of Puy l'Eveque on the river Lot. We are also very close to world famous sites such as Rocamadour and the caves at Gouffre de Padirac as well as a seemingly endless number of places to visit and activities including wine tours of local vineyards, which has been a favourite of many of our guests (hic!). Catus is about 1/4 hr from here with it's leisure lake and beach - the 'Lac Vert' leisure complex. As well as swimming and fishing in the lake, there are pedaloes and canoes for hire. It also has a lakeside café bar and two restaurants with views overlooking the water. Free activities at the lake include two floodlit tennis courts, volleyball and table tennis. There are also swings and slides for young children. (These are where we like to go with our children and you can easily spend a whole day there, enjoyed by everyone)

Culinary delights!:

The area is well known for it’s culinary heritage and was recently featured on Jamie Oliver’s cookery program on Channel 4. He commented that historically, the people of the area have never been wealthy to say the least, but ate like kings, enjoying truffles, walnuts, foie gras, duck, goats cheese and Quercy lamb...... and you can do the same! Because of this tradition, there are great opportunities to visit superb local restaurants and vineyards. We are lucky to have a number of good quality restaurants nearby. Restaurants nearby include the 1 Michelin star rated, Le Gindreau, situated about 10 minutes away. The famous La Recreation is in Les Arques, 5km away.

Probably the best Barn Conversion in the Lot?

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in 5 years and although we were impressed in 2011 this visit was even better. The owners live next to the Barn and are excellent hosts encouraging us to feast off the plums , apples and pears in the garden. The property is immaculate and the living /dining/ kitchen is an open plan large area approx 10x12m and well equipped. Outside is an excellent covered seating/ dining area near the pool.

La Masse is a very quiet small charming hamlet with easy access to Prayssac etc.

Beautiful countryside and fascinating Bastides and Chateaux to visit plus numerous walks along the Lot or in the hills.

Beautifully set, well presented and laid out with privacy but close to local shops and amenities.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Grange Fontaine in La Masse, Les Junies for two weeks this Summer and we're delighted with the property.

With four children sharing two rooms, we had the gorgeous master with the free-standing bath to ourselves!

The property has been superbly finished by Gary, and hearing about the conversion from it's original state with the raising of beams, the first floor level and putting in the necessary electrics and plumbing made for great conversation. Gary was very attentive every night, clearing the pool and every morning setting up.

The children loved the pool everyday and the house and it's lay out allowed them - and us - privacy and separate time alone. The pool was safe and Gary was quick to point out the no diving rules and the rules around the steps in and out of the pool and how essential it was to its integrity.

Young families will want to be sensitive to the largely elderly residents of La Masse in terms of noise levels and will be re-assured to know that nearby CastelFranc (5 mins drive) and Pryssac (15 mins drive) have all you'll need in terms of pharmacy, supermarkets (Carrefour and Intermarche) and the definitive boulangerie's! Highly recommend the Friday market in Pryssac for the best fresh local produce and we BBQ'd most night's on the facilities provided for.

Cahors was worth a visit on the one cloudy day out of the fourteen we had, and our boys had two visits to the Go Karting track out in Cahors Sud (about 45 mins away). Otherwise, we spent all our time at the beautiful property, enjoying the garden for daily games and felt genuinely relaxed and refreshed for our holiday.

Gary was quick to re-fund our safety deposit on return and in all our pre-holiday messages was prompt in return and 'talked us in' when we first arrived. He made the perfect host and a great owner on this site. We'd happily recommend Gary as an owner to deal with and La Grange as a property to spend time at.

Phil and Sarah,

Warwick

Five star luxury in France

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic welcome awaited us at Garry and Gaynor's converted barn in the Lot Valley.

If you are wanting a glorious setting, luxury accommodation that caters for your every need this is the holiday home for you. Everything about this place oozes style and class but the pictures don't quite portray how pretty and well thought out the property is , both inside and out.

Outside is a lovely pool, large enough to swim proper lengths, that Garry maintains daily. Evenings would find us playing boules in the large lawned garden dotted with apple trees, sitting with a G&T in one of the many shaded seating areas or dining around the large outside table on food cooked on the large built barbecue....at night the garden twinkles with fairy lights!

Inside, the large, open plan living space with its well equipped kitchen, dining table and TV/ sofa area is equally well designed, airy and definitely has the wow factor. The master bedroom is massive, all beds very comfortable and bed linens all top quality.

If you can drag yourself away, it is very central for visits to numerous sites in the area. While we were there we went kayaking on the Dordogne, visited the fantastic prehistoric caves at Peche Merle, went to a castle (Chateau Bonaguil) and of course feasted on food bought at the marvellous local French markets.

Garry and Gaynor were wonderful hosts, nothing was too much trouble.

Thankyou, we will be back next year!

A wonderful property in a wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely fantastic stay. The property is beautiful and wonderfully equipped and I really can't understate how vast it is. Every room is large, comfortable and ensuite and the open plan living was great for our family, as was the pool!

The area was also perfect. All the main attractions of the Dordogne are easy to get to as are the lesser known ones of the Lot and Lot-et-Garonne.

Garry and Gaynor were absolutely fantastic hosts, providing help and advice when needed whilst also allowing absolute privacy. It's probably the best place we've stayed at in all the years we've been coming to France and we can't recommend it enough.

Relaxing & a visit from the local deer

  • 5 of 5

Great barn with everything we needed. Myself & my daughter spent most of the time in the lovely clean pool, even my grumpy 3 year old son came in eventually! The rest of the time the fold up ladder kept him out whilst we weren't about.

Garry & Gaynor couldn't have been more helpful, advising restaurants and places to visit. And best of all providing toys for Jack & Evie to keep themselves entertained.

And to top it off we all got to see the deer when it came in to the garden, the kids got a shock when it barked at them but she was nice and friendly

Would recommend to anybody who wants a nice chilled holiday in a nice authentic French village.

PS Restaurant La Venus in Pryass is highly recommended, ask for Melanie
