About Jo and John Yates

John and I fell in love with and bought Stone house 11 years ago. We love the outdoors. John trained a graphic artist and taught Art, before working as a professional international mountain guide for 12 years and finally coming indoors, providing IT resourcing and strategy for schools. I trained as an engineering geologist, working for 5 years as an outdoor instructor and then as an HR professional for 20 years. I also recently stopped to enjoy a life of busy leisure! We fill our time very easily! We enjoy it when guests have a wonderful and peaceful break. You will only see us if you need us, and are always happy to give ideas, advice on what you can do.

A lovely property in a beautiful, remote spot

  • 5 of 5

We had just had a fantastic week in this lovely converted barn. The beautiful, peaceful location was perfect for us and the extensive, safe outdoors space for our 3 boys to explore was a bonus! We received such a warm welcome from Jo, the owner, who went out of her way to accommodate us and make us feel at home. It is a great location from which to explore the surrounding countryside - so many lovely walks on the doorstep. We would highly recommend this place to stay!

A very enjoyable week

  • 5 of 5

We know neighbouring areas well but it was our first stay in Bilsdale. What a stunning area and Stonehouse Barn was so very comfortable with all we needed. The garden is lovely with beautiful long distance views in all directions and ideal for us and our dog. Jo was always available if required and made us feel very welcome from the outset .It offers a wonderful base to have a relaxing holiday and we would have no hesitation in returning one day !

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

The barn is absolutely lovely, incredibly comfortable and very well fitted out with everything we needed including lovely soft towels!

Its a great location in which to explore the Moors or just to hang out in the garden or walk around the land in the hot September sun.

We had a great, relaxing week and hope to go back in Winter when the landscape will have no doubt look completely different.

Lovely barn conversion, beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable well thought out barn conversion , with superb views across the valley , everything you need can be found in the property , great for well behaved dogs as the garden is not enclosed and there are lots of sheep and cattle around but very safe , well away from roads . Lovely hosts who live next door if you need them for any reason .

Very central for the Yorkshire Moors and the East Coast areas .

Lovely barn conversion in beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place to stay. The barn has been tastefully converted and there is everything you need once you arrive. The owners are very helpful and there when you need them. There is one master bedroom and a further 2 bed rooms of ample size and upstairs there is one bigger open space with kitchen area, all kitted out, dining table and living space, there is also a shower room upstairs with washing machine. The standard of the barn is good but still feels like home.

The setting is amazing, peaceful with stunning views. The kids loved waking up and seeing the wildlife outside their windows.

The barn is also well placed for lots of day visits with most places of interest less than hour away and plenty closer than that.

We had a relaxing and yet fun-packed holiday with 2 teenagers and a tweenager, North Yorkshire even kept them amused!

Many thanks to John and Jo for looking after us and the recommendations.
