Silverburn Cottage - Rural Location In The Heart Of Scotland's Southern Highlands, 5 Miles From Aberfeldy

Surrounded by fields and forest and on a hilltop site, the cottage offers peace, quiet and wonderful views, is built for comfort, and is filled with light. Features include a satellite TV (freesat), DVD player, CD player with IPOD dock, broadband with wifi, and telephone (free UK landline calls). The sitting room is a place to relax and enjoy the view. It includes a wood-burning stove and extensive bookshelves containing a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books. There is a fully equipped kitchen. Original art adorns the walls throughout. Children are welcome to use the swings and trampoline in the owners' garden next door. A wood-fired sauna lies next to the cottage and is available for use by guests. The cottage is reached by a farm track (easily negotiable by a normal car except in snowy conditions), and the small town of Aberfeldy offers good facilities only 5 miles away. There is excellent walking from the cottage door, while golf, fishing, stalking (in season) and water sports are available nearby. There is skiing at Glenshee, Aviemore and Glencoe, all about 90 minutes drive away. There are plenty of places in the vicinity to visit on wet days (e.g. Blair Castle, Scone Palace, Menzies Castle, Aberfeldy Cinema, Scottish Crannog Centre).

Stayed here with my boyfriend. What a lovely cottage, the place was spotless when we arrived and we were warmly welcomed and given tips about the local area. The owners also offered us assistance with our car and how to use things like the private sauna. Aside from this, they left us to it. The place itself is situated in a stunning valley and we were able to view wild deer from the living room window as we ate breakfast. Would strongly recommend for a romantic getaway or for a hiking weekend with a group of friends.

The west coast of Scotland at Oban is about 1 hour and 40 minutes away, while St Andrews and the Fife coast in the east are a similar distance in the opposite direction.


Edinburgh Airport: 90 minutes by car

Dundee Airport (flights to and from London City and London Stansted): 75 minutes by car

Nearest rail stations are Pitlochry and Dunkeld (both about 35 minutes drive). There is a daily train at Pitlochry direct to and from London.

Car is essential for access to the property and to enjoy the area.

Further Details:

Aberfeldy offers a reasonable range of shops, including a Coop supermarket and an excellent delicatessen, a post office and banks, and a range of cafes. There is also a newly built cinema and a well-known bookshop/gallery/cafe (the Watermill). There are good restaurants in Weem (4 miles), Kenmore (3 miles), Logierait (14 miles), Pitlochry (20 miles) and Killiecrankie (25 miles). Whitewater rafting and fishing are available on the River Tay, and water sports on Loch Tay. There is excellent walking throughout the area to suit all abilities and experience.

Booking Notes:
Our website includes a booking enquiry form which can be submitted direct to us. We also accept bookings by email and phone. We require a 20% non-returnable deposit to confirm the booking, and payment of the balance at least one month before arrival. We accept payment by BACS, cheque and credit card (via Paypal).

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Friday. We ask guests to leave by 10am on day of departure, and to arrive at 4pm or afterwards on day of arrival.

Notes on prices:
During the low season (January to March and November to December) we offer short breaks of minimum 3 nights. Our charges are as follows:
- 6 nights: £375
- 5 nights: £330
- 4 nights: £290
- 3 nights: £250

We charge a £30 supplement for dog(s), and accept a maximum of 2 well-behaved dogs.

There is a small patio with outdoor table and chairs. There is also a sauna with a wood-fired stove. Logs for this and for the sitting room stove are supplied free of charge. The swings and trampoline in the owners' adjacent garden are available for the use of children. Utility Room: No separate utility room, but there is a washing machine and an ironing board in a cupboard off the kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included and changed weekly. The property is cleaned weekly.
