About the property

Cottage in St Mawes, Cornwall, England - Quiet location, 100m to sea, less than 3 minutes walk from beaches, shops, pubs and restaurants

**Fully re-decorated for 2018**

*Fisherman's Cottage is a pet free property*

Fisherman's Cottage is a charming property just a stone's throw from the sea in the oldest part of St Mawes village. The perfect place to relax and enjoy all the stunning Roseland Peninsula and picturesque St Mawes has to offer.

What's great about Fisherman's Cottage is that its a really cosy, homely environment, tucked away on a quiet street; yet its practically bang in the middle of the lively seaside village of St Mawes, with beaches, pubs and restaurants just a couple of minutes walk away.

The cottage, along with the others in the same street, was built in the 1700s to accommodate local fishermen. We renovated the cottage in 2013, creating a warm, comfortable modern interior, whilst retaining its original character and features.

The front stable door opens on to a large bright sitting room area with loads of sofa space and a lovely log fire. There is a TV, Blu-ray player and Amazon Fire box tucked discretely away in the corner cupboard - just in case you're unlucky with the weather, or just fancy a bit of lounging!

Music lovers are also well catered for with a new 120W Panasonic Hi-Fi with Bluetooth, DAB and CD.

To the rear of the sitting room is a kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is new and well equipped. There is slimline dishwasher, fan oven, induction hobs, toaster, kettle, filter coffee machine and microwave.

Through the kitchen is a small utility area with the washer/dryer which opens to the sun deck at the rear of the cottage and a downstairs loo.

The sun deck is really the jewel of the cottage's crown. There's a great view of the harbour and sea beyond, a table for some al fresco dining and a BBQ for those lazy summer evenings.

Upstairs, the large double bedroom is a decent size, with plenty of storage space. There is also a more compact double room - the bed here is only accessible on one side - and a twin bunk room at the rear of the cottage.

The bathroom is bright and fresh and has a bath with a shower over.

WiFi is provided. We now have BT Infinity installed, so you can expect download speeds of 40Mb - more than enough for HD streaming and multiple users.

Cordless phone with caller display/answerphone for incoming calls.

The back of Fisherman's Cottage has a fantastic decked area, where you can relax with a glass of wine, watching (but not hearing) the hustle and bustle down on the harbour below, and boats further out to sea. The path out to the street at the rear of the cottage also presents excellent opportunities to sneak out to The Rising Sun pub or Idle Rocks Hotel, both just 50 meters from the back gate!

Cottage was great and the location is superb. Love St. Mawes and the ferry to Falmouth is very convenient if you want to connect more with civilization. We did this last minute and communication from Danny was top notch. Would love to come back!

Notes on accommodation: Guests should be aware that the sleeping arrangements in the small double and bunk rooms are slightly compact at full occupancy. In the small double room, the bed is against the wall/window on one side and is only accessible from the right-hand side or at the bottom (please see photos). There is loads of storage space in this room, so that's not an issue. We think its really cosy, but if you're looking for a large double room with loads of floor space, then this possibly isn't for you. The bunk room also isn't huge, but again it has plenty of storage space. Both beds have bedside lamps and tables and the beds are comfortable full sized singles. Please note that pets are not allowed at Fisherman's Cottage Parking: While we cannot guarantee a parking space, people don't generally park directly in front of the cottage, so you'll usually be able to park here. Just move the flower pots to the side of the house (and don't forget to put them back again when you're out!). The whole street has unrestricted parking all year round. If you're unlucky enough not to get a space outside the house or on the street (we've had no reports of this happening before), the next road up the hill is also free from parking restrictions. . Door to sun deck (and beautiful sea views!). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned between stays - this is included in the price. Towels and bedding are provided.

Owner's Response: Hi John, As the author of our first ever 4 star review, I thought that you deserved a personal response! I'm terribly sorry that you didn't get any logs, our housekeeper must have neglected to put them out. I do wish you would've contacted me though, as we keep a large quantity under the decking and I could've easily directed you to them. I'm grateful to you for informing me about the missing tin opener and broken door handle, again it would've great to get these issues fixed for you as soon they came up, rather than you having to suffer the inconvenience for a whole week.

Had a great time and enjoyed staying at the cottage hugely. Very comfortable and the wood burner was most welcome. Thanks I think we will be back.

Lovely cottage in fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week in fishermans's cottage. The property is well located just a short distance from the harbour (albeit up a quite steep hill) and within easy reach of some lovely beaches and coast walks. It is also very comfortable and well equipped. Danny was great to deal with, would definitely recommend and hope to return one day!

Great location and lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really liked this place - spent week here late April - early May. We were just a couple so had lots of room. We arrived and the place was very clean and well equipped. It is a few hundred yards from the waterfront of St Mawes with ver nice views of the town from the kitchen and the outside deck. Very quiet street and parking at this time of the year was easy using the assigned space. It is a great base for exploring the peninsula and taking the passenger ferry across to Falmouth. Some very good restaurants in the area and of course pubs. Danny was easy and prompt in all his dealings with us.

Very comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage during a four night coast path stay. St Mawes is perfectly placed for doing this in winter when the Place seasonal ferry is not running and you can get across to Falmouth.

The cottage itself is handily situated in St Mawes, a couple of minutes from the shops and banks. It is well equipped and we really appreciated the extras like linen provision, teabags, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets which were all provided.

Parking was no problem in winter and we had three cars with us, we had one car outside and two on the street below.

I would love to come and stay again but we are continuing along the coast. Highly recommended.

A Fishy Tale!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Fisherman's Cottage (the first being in June 2015) and after a pretty horrid journey, due to weather and road works, we were only too happy to stumble over the thresh-hold of this lovely property and settle down to a fish pie in the delightful kitchen! On both occasions the cottage has been clean and tidy, the bedrooms made up with clean, fresh linen and the bonus of hand and bath towels in the upstairs bathroom and downstairs loo are very welcome.

The kitchen is really well kitted out, with dishes, plates and cutlery etc for every culinary need! There is a washing machine/dryer and dishwashing machine, which makes life very easy when you are on holiday. The deck is a suntrap, especially in the afternoons, and we were lucky enough to be able to sit out and make use of it.

St Mawes is a pretty little harbour village with some lovely walks close by. We took the Place ferry over to Place and enjoyed a picnic at St Anthonys Head. One can also walk further to Port Scatho and find the Hidden Hut - on this occasion we drove as the weather was not particularly good on the day we chose to go. The Idle Rocks is very handy to walk down to and enjoy a G&T on the terrace looking out at the sea, as is the St Mawes Hotel. We also enjoyed a splendid meal at the Watch Tower - well worth a visit as it was absolutely delicious and service was first class.

Scrummy bread and croissants can be bought daily at the bakery on the Quay - the croissants are particularly edible!

We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at Fisherman's Cottage, am sure it will not be our last! Thank you to Danny for letting us stay in his lovely cottage, which is an absolute delight.

Fisherman's Cottage is superbly located in the heart of St Mawes. The sea, The Rising Sun pub and Idle Rocks Hotel (boasting an excellent cocktail bar and restaurant!) are within 100 metres of the property. There are a number of other pubs and restaurants a short walk away.

An excellent Co-op mini-supermarket, Post Office, butcher, baker and fresh fish stall are within approximately 250 metres of the cottage. Lloyds Bank, Barclays bank (with ATM) and a number of galleries, craft shops and clothing stores are all within a 5 minute walk.

St Mawes Harbour, approximately 200 metres from the cottage, has passenger ferries running to Falmouth taking 20 minutes (all year round) and St Anthony's Head, taking 10 minutes (seasonal). A ride on a ferry in this beautiful natural harbour is a pleasure in itself. St Mawes Harbour also has canoe/kayak hire, various charter boats for fishing, sightseeing etc. and even a pasty shop!

St Mawes is located near the southern tip of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula – designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for the quality of its landscape and unrivalled coastal scenery.

The area around St Mawes boasts secluded coves, beautiful creeks, rolling countryside, tranquil beaches, and scenic cliffs and headlands, all easily accessible from the cottage.

There are 2 lovely beaches within walking distance and many more a short drive/ferry trip away.

The easiest way to get here is by car - St Mawes is 20 miles / 32 km from the A30.

Arriving by train & boat is also relatively easy. There is plenty to do here without a car once you're here! You can get a train to Falmouth Town (from Truro), from here walk to Custom House Quay (8 mins) and get a ferry to St Mawes (20 mins). Alternatively, get a taxi from Truro train station (11 miles via King Harry Ferry).

By Plane, hire a car from Newquay International Airport (44km) or Exeter (166km).
