The PERFECT Retreat!

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

The Retreat, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, England - A beautifully appointed home situated within a short walk of the beach, town, ferry and harbour.

A well appointed and beautifully furnished 3 bedroom property situated in a peaceful location within 2 minutes (flat) walk of Yarmouth harbour, swimming beach and the towns main square where you'll find a handful of small boutique shops, the Michelin starred George Hotel, high class delicatessen, Post office and numerous good restaurants, coffee shops and pubs.

The Retreat offers you the chance to lock up the car, discard your keys and enjoy the numerous pleasures that Yarmouth has to offer. What better way to unwind than in a place where the pace is slow and the people are helpful and friendly.

And for those who know Yarmouth and know how difficult it can be to park a car (or for those that don't!) The Retreat offers TWO parking spaces. Right outside your front door!!

'Sunshine Island' as the Isle of Wight is known enjoys an enviable micro-climate; you will often note whilst bathing in sunshine in Yarmouth a casual glance across the Solent is rewarded by the sight of the 'north island' 'enjoying' cloud and rain!

The West Wight is much the quieter & less populated end of the Isle of Wight, but Yarmouth, though small and picturesque, proudly boasts one of the most active communities found on the Island. The oldest town on the IOW (founded 1135) and the 2nd smallest in England, much of the quaint and largely unspoiled appeal of this pretty old port town is explained in its geography: Given the busy waters of the Solent to the north, the lively harbour and tranquil river estuary to the west and the untouched marshes encroaching from south and east, these beautiful surroundings mean that the town’s small boundaries have never been, and cannot be, extended further.

Yet Yarmouth abounds in activity, especially in the summer with the annual Carnival Week, Round the Island Yacht Race, Cowes week and the 3-day 'Gaffers' Festival which draws over 25,000 to Yarmouth!

WARNING: Do NOT book this property

We booked 'The Retreat' for a 2 week family holiday. On arrival we found the house dirty (eg there was grime in the cutlery drawer, fridge, dusty surfaces, grubby floors, and stained duvets) and the wardrobes were full of the house owners clothes! We had to live out of our suitcases for 2 weeks - which was poor considering the amount of money we had paid to stay in the house. The linen basket was full of dirty clothes - disgusting. All kinds of the owners personal belongings were stuffed under the beds, gathering a lot of visible dust and human & dog hair. As soon as we arrived I had to clean the house and then I emailed the owner to complain. In his response he merely 'thanked me for my feedback' and said he'd not received any complaints before about the property being unclean. Absolutely NOTHING was done done by the owner about the dirtiness of the house, nor did he remove some of his belongings so that we could at least hang up our holiday clothing. I have not been offered any kind of refund. We felt as though we were squatters in someone's dirty house for 2 weeks. Needless to say we will not be returning to 'The Retreat' and I would recommend that anyone considering booking it should avoid it. It's important to note that this is a very recent review and all the others are from 2014... probably the last time The Retreat had a proper clean.

An absolute Gem!

  • 5 of 5

Our group came down to Yarmouth in June 2014 to observe and take in the unique and unrivalled atmosphere that imbues Yarmouth during the annual J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race. The race is the largest of its kind with around 16,000 professional and amateur sailors, including some unlikely celebrities. The Retreat was presented immaculately and there was plenty of space for all in unwind when not on the quay. The sunsoaked garden and BBQs made for a very memorable and enjoyable last day. Overall the Retreat was the perfect venue for our stay and it was evident that the owners had gone to great lengths to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Would highly recommend to all Sailors, Sunseekers and Island Adventures.

A wonderful escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Retreat for a long weekend. It is such a welcoming and exceptionally well appointed house. For us, the best bit is its proximity to the sea and also the great shops, deli and restaurants of Yarmouth. The house is in a lovely quiet street, but is literally a couple of minutes walk away from all that Yarmouth has to offer. Can't wait to come back again :-))

Owner's Response: Thanks Alison. Thank you also for mentioning The Retreat to your friends Alexandra and Ben; I'm hoping we can arrange something with them allowing them to stay at the house for a long weekend in February to coincide with their friends wedding.

a fabulous place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our first holiday on the I-O-W here. The house is gorgeous, well equipped with everything you need.It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable and relaxing. We took our dog for her first trip away and the house and garden was secure so she could play safely in the garden. The location is perfect a few minutes from the ferry, town and pubs. Will definitely be returning soon.

Everything you could want from a holiday home with the added bonus of staying somewhere very tastefully decorated and furnished - much nicer than my own home!

A great location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in the Retreat for 2 weeks in winter and the house was very comfortable and warm. Yarmouth is probably the best place to be on the Isle of Wight with plenty of interest around the town and harbour. The Retreat is a pleasant 5 minute walk away from the centre with plenty of pubs, restaurants and the ferry. I'm planning to be in the IOW next summer and I will definitely be booking to stay there again.
