About Claire

Hi, I am Claire. I am a pre-school teacher and I have lived in Braunton for over twenty years. I enjoy walking the north Devon coastline and love our beautiful beaches. My interests include walking, gardening, reading and travelling – I particularly enjoy visiting London and other cities – a huge contrast to rural north Devon. Gull Cottage has been a happy family home and I hope you enjoy it too.

Claire purchased this house in 1980

Why Claire chose North Devon

I moved to Braunton from Cambridgeshire to be near my family and because I have always loved to be beside the sea. The area is so versatile, beaches, moorland and gentle countryside and just a short journey to the more rugged Cornwall. Braunton is a bustling friendly village with interesting shops, pubs and restaurants plus a medical centre, dentists and schools.

What makes this house unique

Braunton is ideally positioned close to the beaches and the market town of Barnstaple. It has a good infrastructure and easy access to coastal and country towns like Simonsbath, Lynmouth, Bideford and Westwood Ho! Gull Cottage is on the edge of the village within easy walking distance to all the facilities the village has to offer.

Gull Cottage Braunton

  • 4 of 5

Gull Cottage is a spacious well appointed holiday cottage equipped with everything you require for a holiday (and more). Our 2 and a half year old grandson really enjoyed the selection of toys and books that were in the cottage. The garden is well landscaped and has a seaside theme and provide a good supply of pebbles and shells to entertain said grandson! The location on edge of Braunton is close to coastal path to the Burrows and short drive from all the lovely beaches and spectacular coastal cliffs that can be found in this part of Devon. We can also recommend the excellent Sri-Lankan curry van that is parked at Velator Quay on Friday evenings (until 8.00 pm) - and where you can enjoy a curry whilst watching a barn owl hunting!

The only slight negative is that the cottage is bounded (but well shielded from) by a busy A-road and anyone wanting a quiet chill out in the garden on the comfortable garden furniture (at least without an ipod) might find the traffic noise intrusive - I guess we noticed this more because we come from quiet rural Northumberland.

This property was immaculate & well equipped with everything you may need while on holiday catered

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage mainly due to the cheery seaside / beach themed décor, wonderful hot showers, comfortable beds and beautifully decked out garden. The outside space is a treat and is an amazing space to chill out in. We had everything we wanted and more with the surf shack goodies including a wonderfully relaxing hammock, sun parasol and very comfortable cushioned wicker sofas and table. The whole house was very well equipped with crockery, glasses and all the kitchen utensils we would ever have needed. We were also impressed by the "welcome to Gull Cottage" milk and bottles of rose wine which helped ease us ourselves nicely into the holiday spirit :-). The location of the cottage is perfect as you are just on the outskirts of the main high street into Braunton and it was easy to find the local places to visit. A group of us hired the cottage in order to meet up for a school reunion in Barnstaple, so we were all local to the area at some point in our childhood and beyond. The location really added to the special occasion and we would definitely recommend this property to friends and family - 10 out of 10 ! Thank you Claire :-)

Absolutely lovely

  • 5 of 5

Gull Cottage was perfect! It had everything we needed with two small children (we especially appreciated the stair gate and plastic cups and plates)

Everything was of the highest standard and the welcome wine and cream tea supplies were much appreciated! We will definitely be making further booking on our next trip to north Devon.

Amazing cottage central to Braunton.

  • 5 of 5

Our host was more than accommodating and we arrived to a home from home with everything we could possibly need there. The cottage was beautifully done out (as was the garden) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Will definitely return!

Gull Cottage Braunton

  • 5 of 5

What an adorable cottage, charming and yet with every modern convenience possible. A really lovely place to stay and we, as a family, enjoyed our stay at Gull Cottage immensely. An added bonus, of course, was that Gull Cottage was extremely dog friendly both within the house and the safe environment of the garden. Would highly recommend this as a holiday destination.
