Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

Hi, I am Claire. I am a pre-school teacher and I have lived in Braunton for over twenty years. I enjoy walking the north Devon coastline and love our beautiful beaches. My interests include walking, gardening, reading and travelling – I particularly enjoy visiting London and other cities – a huge contrast to rural north Devon. Gull Cottage has been a happy family home and I hope you enjoy it too.

Gull Cottage Braunton

  • 5 of 5

What an adorable cottage, charming and yet with every modern convenience possible. A really lovely place to stay and we, as a family, enjoyed our stay at Gull Cottage immensely. An added bonus, of course, was that Gull Cottage was extremely dog friendly both within the house and the safe environment of the garden. Would highly recommend this as a holiday destination.

Gull Cottage, Braunton

  • 5 of 5

My family (including our dog) and I had a wonderful holiday at Gull Cottage. The cottage is so well equipped and spacious, we felt relaxed and at home there. It was handy to have towels provided, the milk and wine was very welcome too ! A lot of thought has gone into providing a lovely holiday home! We cycled into Barnstaple on the Tarka trail which was a lovely cycle ride, and also enjoyed walking over Braunton Burrows onto Saunton Sands. You can walk into town easily from the cottage. We got the bus from Braunton to Croyde and then walked back from Croyde to Saunton Sands over a steepish hill.

Would like to return to this lovely place sometime to explore a bit more.

Thankyou Claire and Helen

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for a wonderful review. We are so glad you had such a lovely time. The cycle paths around the property were the old railway line route and provide miles of scenic cycle or walking routes around the coastline and connecting the village and towns with a load of nice pubs along the way. There is plenty more to explore in devon and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Thanks again, Claire.

Stylish and Thoughtful Gull Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Gull Cottage is just on the edge of Braunton with an easy to walk into the village. Beautifully decorated, every thought is given to making you feel at home. The cottage was spotless on our arrival and all possible needs are catered for. We love the beaches, there is plenty of space for dealing with sandy wetsuits and boards when you get back to base. There is also ample parking for four cars.

Would recommend Gull Cottage in a heartbeat. However don't want to give away our new found secret !!

Fantastic holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

Gull cottage is a lovely holiday home, we felt so at home and had everything we needed. A very spacious house so that we never felt on top of each other, there was my husband and I, our 7 year old daughter, the in-laws, and our Labrador, so we appreciated the space! Perfect location too, just 5 minutes walk from the town with a great choice of take away/restaurants etc, and also within easy driving distance from major attractions and towns. I can safely say we will be returning to Gull cottage in the future. Thank you Claire and Helen

Absolutely stunning!

  • 5 of 5

We chose Gull Cottage for our honeymoon as we could take our children and dog along. It was one of the best decisions we made this year!

The house is stunning, the garden is perfect and the whole place is immaculate. Claire, the lady who owns the property, made sure we had everything we needed as soon as we arrived. She took time out of her schedule to come and say hello to my husband and make sure we were getting on well in the house. She also left us a complimentary bottle of cava in the fridge to say congratulations, with a note attached to help us find the glasses!

There is plenty to do at the house if you are unlucky and have bad weather. The children loved the board games and the colouring books.

The surf shack is stocked with beach equipment to use and the outside shower is perfect for after the beach!

Saunton sands is only a few miles down the road and is a beautiful, dog friendly beach, great for body boarding and surfing. We didn't spend a lot of time in Braunton but did visit the Salt Rock Outlet which is great and literally just around the corner. The nearby Tesco is good for stocking up the fridge and freezer too.

We will definitely return! It's really is perfect for large families.

Thank you so much Claire!

Location

From the Owner

I moved to Braunton from Cambridgeshire to be near my family and because I have always loved to be beside the sea. The area is so versatile, beaches, moorland and gentle countryside and just a short journey to the more rugged Cornwall. Braunton is a bustling friendly village with interesting shops, pubs and restaurants plus a medical centre, dentists and schools.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Braunton is a great location for your holiday, close to wonderful sandy beaches, a rugged and dramatic coastline, harbours filled with fishing boats, easy access to Exmoor, beautiful rolling countryside and the island of Lundy. The closest beach to Braunton is Saunton a three and a half mile stretch of golden sand backed by the dunes of Braunton Burrows a world heritage site and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Around the headland is the curved sandy bay of Croyde, Woolacombe, and Putsborough!

Braunton is five miles from Barnstaple on the A361. The nearest railway is in Barnstaple and the closest airports are Exeter and Bristol and the National Express Coach services runs through Barnstaple with a drop off in Braunton. Distances:

Gull Cottage is a short walk from the centre of the delightful village of Braunton which offers a great choice of pubs, restaurants and cafes. Among the types of food available are a tradition carvery at the family friendly Williams Arms, famous for the vast number and variety of vegetables on offer for lunch and evening meals.

In the centre of the village is Squires an award winning fish and chip restaurant and take away. There is also a fine selection of world cuisine.
