Converted Barns With Views Of Bodmin Moor And Roughtor - Tor View Sleeps 2 (1 Bedroom)

Updated: 13-Oct-2016
Barns in Advent, Camelford, Cornwall, England - Set In 2 Acres, Tranquil With Fantastic Views

Highertown is a small hamlet of 4 houses set on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and archaeological interest. It has a fabulous vista across Stannon reservoir to Roughtor and the Moor. It is very quiet and peaceful here, while at the same time it is close to the North Coast beaches and only 30 minutes drive to the Eden Project and other attractions of mid-Cornwall. It is an ideal base for exploring North and Mid-Cornwall. For those keen bird watchers we are directly under the flight path of the starling murmurations, they arrive in October and stay with us for several months. Twice a day we are given a wonderful show from the starlings and they are often so low you can actually hear them. This is also an ideal base for the avid photographer and for those who love to paint. Hiking across the moors is a wonderful experience and you will definitely need your walking boots here.

Also if you are a keen Golfer there are several local courses to choose from.

About the Owner

My husband and I live at Highertown Barn with my 2 teenagers and our very friendly Cocker Spaniel Alfie and semi-feral ginger cat, Russell. We also look after several hens and 1 cockerel called Sidney.

We do live on-site in the larger barn, Highertown, but we do work full-time so won't be about all the time.

The property was fantastic everything you would need and more. You definitely need a car it was right in the middle of the country. Would be fantastic if you are walkers.

A wonderful place for a break from the rat race. Great walks from outside the property. Really well equipped, comfortable and stylish cottage. The owners, are friendly, welcoming and helpful, yet respect privacy.

We are planning a return trip as soon as possible.

Exceptionally well presented, stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Well not sure were to start, the cottage itself was beautifully presented, it seemed all aspects of your stay had been thought of. Home cinema with a great collection of current Blu-rays to watch if that is your thing. A selection of books including a book on British birds which came in useful for identifying the different birds on the feeder which were new to us suburbanites. Great sized bed with comfortable mattress and lovely fresh bedding. Conservatory was a relaxing place to sit with a great view of Rough Tor (2nd highest peak in Cornwall) and the garden. The shower was fantastic also. A washer and dryer were available in a separate utility room.

The owners Melanie and Mike were very friendly and approachable, a welcome pack had been left for our arrival which included their own chickens eggs and Melanie's homemade jams which were delightful, a lovely touch. There was also a folder and leaflets of all local amenities and visitor attractions.

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring Cornwall and surrounding areas with the added bonus of going back to a tranquil oasis at the end of the day. We managed to visit most places in our weeks stay, going as far as Lands End.

We would definitely recommend this cottage to our friends and family and to anybody who is looking for the perfect place for some R&R.

We fell in love with the cottage as soon as we arrived. It is beautifully maintained to a high standard. It's spotlessly clean and well equipped. The cinema screen with surround sound is a nice touch, and one that I've not seen before in holiday cottages, and as the weather wasn't all that great when we stayed, we made good use of it! The view is stunning (when the mist and cloud wasn't so thick it completely disappeared!) We enjoyed our stay so much we booked for the same week next year while we were there.

Thanks for letting us stay in your lovely holiday cottage Mike and Melanie. See you next June, Sharron and Adrian Kemp.

Beautiful property in idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

Tor View is perfect for a relaxing break for two. The barn has been renovated to a high standard with all modern conveniences and is stylish, spacious

and more importantly very comfortable. It is a little out of the way(not isolated) but well worth the drive for the peace and tranquility and stunning view of Roughtor from the garden.I particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory in the morning sipping my coffee, admiring the view and watching the many different birds at the feeders. So relaxing !! It is an ideal base for exploring the coast with Tintagel and Boscastle just a short drive away. We were lucky to have great weather but for rainy days there is a fantastic home cinema and a good selection of books. The kitchen is very well equipped but if you feel like eating out we would highly recommend The Masons Arms in Camelford for delicious, locally sourced food and friendly atmosphere. The owners Mike and Melanie are very friendly and have obviously put a lot of thought into ensuring that their guests have everything they need to enjoy their stay.We would definitely go back

From the Owner

We have a busy professional life and wanted to be able to get off the treadmill of our busy day job at the end of each day. We do feel very privileged to live on the Moors and feel quite re-leaved to get home at the end of each day. We do have good neighbours. There are 3 other houses in our hamlet, so we are not totally isolated, but the houses are nicely spaced out.

15 minutes drive from Trebarwith and Bossiney, and 20 minutes from Boscastle and Port Isaac on the North Cornwall coast. There are a lot of small beaches and coves on the North coast as well as larger beaches like Widemouth Bay in Bude. A car is needed to get to the coast and to be able to explore as many of the lovely beaches Cornwall has to offer.

From the Owner

We love going for walks across the moors with the dog. It is very quiet here and you will definitely feel like you are away from the rat race of life. This place is definitely somewhere to unwind and relax. If you want to get away from a busy, hectic life for a week or so then this is the place to come to.
