About Elise and Kester Wilson

We are a local family who live just 4 miles from Sennen Cove. I am a local primary school teacher and my husband is a care worker although spends most of his spare time studying the migration and populations of birdlife at his local ringing site! Needless to say we love the outdoors and feel that this is a fantastic place to bring up our 2 children.

Why Elise and Kester Wilson chose Cornwall

We absolutely love this part of the world for it's stunning scenery, charming villages and peaceful serenity. We especially love coastal walking and lunching out!

Cosy home from home

  • 5 of 5

I was so excited when I saw the cottage and how close it was to the sea - i didn't think the pictures on the website did it justice. This was our first holiday in 3 years and the first with our two baby boys.

We loved the large living area, lots of room for the boys to crawl around and for our dog to play. There is a large TV and a fire place - i imagine it must be very cosy in the winter although we didn't need to use it in September.

The kitchen is bijou but is well equipped, and was wonderful to have a washer dryer to use too, especially with two little ones and lots of beach trips!

The views from the cottage are lovely and our little dog very much enjoyed keeping an eye on the passers by!

The bedrooms suited us well - we are a co-sleeping family of four. We set up a travel cot in the double room for our eldest boy and had our tiny baby in bed with us.

We spent lots of days walking or going to the beach and found the hallway cupboard to be full of the most surprising and very useful family bits and pieces for days out or for rainy days inside! I thought this was a very thoughtful addition.

It's not easy to find a home from home that is readily suited to life with two babies and a dog!! But we were delighted with the provisions. We absolutely loved our stay at Cobweb Cottage and can't wait to book our next one.

Flooded out and had to leave

  • 1 of 5

We booked for a 4 night stay at Cobweb cottage and arrived on the Wednesday night, We know the area well and have been coming to Sennen for years. Arrived at the cottage the wood work and radiators had been recently re painted and were still tacky to the touch and there was a strong smell of gloss paint. The Cottage was clean apart from a towel that had been left wet in the washer and smelled. Friday morning we woke to find that the bedrooms and hallway had flooded with water and when you walked on the laminate floor the water squelched through. . All things that we had placed on the floor was soaked. I contacted the owner who attended and was full of apologies. This had been an issue before and it appears to stem from a blocked drain on a raised parking area at the rear of the property. The Owner has offered a full refund for our 4 night stay and a discount on any further bookings. I feel sorry for the owners as this is a lovely cottage in a nice spot but after travelling for a round trip of nearly 14 hours and only having 2 days away I'm obviously not happy. I don't get much time off work and often work a 60 hr week so what time I do get is precious.

Owner's Response: We are deeply sorry that the heavy rain, as Storm Doris passed through Sennen Cove, caused a flood in Cobweb Cottage, and are very sorry about the impact on the guests staying. This was totally unforeseen and we have since discovered the fault lay with a neglected, blocked drain at the back of our cottage, not on our land, belonging to another party. We have compensated the effected guests and are seeking recompense and compensation ourselves, for the damage caused and loss of earnings. The cottage floor has been replaced and the property is up and running, looking smarter than ever! The problem has now been sorted so that this will not happen again. To clarify, the previous instance of flooding in our cottage in the winter of 2013, just a couple of weeks after we purchased the property, was due to a separate damp proofing issue that we had immediately rectified. So there is no reason why this would ever happen again. We always contact guests on their arrival to check all is ok so please tell us immediately if there's anything we can resolve. We aim for guests to have the best possible stay and will always endeavour to do what we can to ensure that.

On arrival very pleasently suprised with the cottage. Home from home, all that you need is in the property. The sea view from the lounge window is great and is situated in a perfect location. Great value for money. Cant wait to go again.

Cozy cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was cozy and very well equipped for two people, it would be a bit small for 6. The second bedroom is tiny! The location is stunning and perfect for walking and sightseeing by car. It was winter when we were there, and cold and stormy but the house was beautifully warm. Be aware that Sennen Cove is more or less dead during the low season, the shop, pub, fish & chip shop and restaurant were all closed, at least when we were there and most houses appeared to be holiday cottage and were empty. The brilliant cafe was open most dasy till 4pm though. We didn't mind it being quiet in town and can only say that we had a fantastic time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are so pleased that you had a fantastic stay. We know that Cobweb Cottage's bedrooms are not spacious, but it is the living space and the location that make it a brilliant property choice. While the property is probably best suited for 4 people, we have added the sofa bed in the lounge to allow for a cheaper option for larger groups who want all the benefits of being in a great location (Sennen Cove), on the seafront, without paying the extra for a larger property. As with most Cornish holiday destinations (and probably across the UK), Sennen is buzzing with life and activity during the summer whereas the winters are much quieter making it a great option for a peaceful, relaxing holiday choice. Despite some businesses closing for a month or two over winter, the Little Bo Café, Lifeboat Station, The Round house Art Gallery and Old Success Pub, all remain open all year round aside from taking their own holidays and when refurbishments are needed. In any case, the beach and coastline are never closed!!
