We were the first to rent this lovely house. A fabulous place for walking and eating outside on the sunny terrace. The Bastle has been like a "castle' to us. Thanks for taking care of the details, the products in the kitchen, books, Bastle mugs etc. Kind greetings from 3 happy Belgians,

P & T Antwerp, Belgium.

What a fantastic holiday cottage, we have been to many and this is firmly at the top of the best list.

Loved the history, the Bastle, the Beltingham Yews and Hadrian's Wall. We had a snowy walk from the Visitor's Centre at Once brewed - along the Wall and back.

The stars are amazing and so was Allen Banks, the river and the Gorge.

Wow, wow wow! What a wonderful find, a beautifully restored house in an idyllic location. With ancient yews and a delightful little church.

As for the house - it is fabulous, very, very cosy and has been restored with great style and finesse. Lots of welcoming little touches, products in the bathroom, a laid up fire and more provisions than we have ever known.

We will definitely be back - Thanks so much to you both x

Lucy and family

Stayed here for my partners 30th birthday and so glad we did!

What an excellent renovation with all the latest mod cons whilst still maintaining its period beauty. As the farmhouse is pet friendly we took along our dog who loved the many walks across Northumberland.

Will definitely be returning!

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

The unspoilt Northumbrian coastline with miles of sandy beaches and castles is a must. A comfortable hour and a half drive from the Bastle, don't forget to visit Holy Island and perhaps a boat trip from Seahouses to the Farne islands for a spot of seal and bird watching. Children and adults will love it.

Newcastle International Airport is approximately 40 mins drive from the Bastle.

Car hire or use of a car is essential to explore the area. The Tyne Valley railway line that scenically links Carlisle with Newcastle stops at Bardon Mill, 3 miles by road or a 15 minute walk over the Victorian iron Bridge that spans the river South Tyne.

The nearest village for essential provisions at the village store is Bardon Mill 3 miles west by road or alternatively the village of Haydon Bridge 5 miles east, has a local butcher, chemist, newsagent and a well equipped Co-op supermarket with post office. Both villages have pubs for local beer and food.

Hadrian's Wall is just a 15 minute drive from the Bastle. Vindolanda Roman Fort at Bardon Mill being the nearest Roman site with on-going archaeological excavations

Further Details:

For further shopping, cafes, restaurants, museums, leisure centre with swimming pool, tourist information etc, the market town of Hexham is 15 miles from the Bastle and the pretty village of Corbridge 19 miles away, has a wealth of independent shops, hotels and pubs with good food, art galleries, antique shops and a Roman fort just outside the village.
